HT Syndication Kattankulathur (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 1: The SRM School of Law, under the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, hosted its annual LEX AVIVA - Student Induction Programme 2025, marking the formal welcome of the students into various law programs including B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B., LL.B., LL.B. (Hons.), and curated LL.M. programs. The event was held at Faraday Hall and commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by the rendition of Thamizh Thai Vazhthu, symbolizing a respectful start to the academic year. Dr. P. Sree Sudha, Dean, School of Law, extended a warm welcome to the gathering and addressed the incoming batch with words of encouragement and insight. Highlighting the global rise of India's economy, she remarked, "India being a democratic country, today, emerged as the fifth powerful economy surpassing Japan. It's one of the significant milestones in the journey of India. Furthermore, considering the graduates of law, there are ample opportunities in the way of litigation in competition law and other fields." She also emphasized the relevance of legal education by drawing from a landmark international tax case, linking it to her own specialization in Tax Law. Dr. A. Vinay Kumar, Pro Vice Chancellor (SBL), in his inaugural address, focused on the evolving nature of legal careers, stating: "Skilling is the most important thing that we are looking at the School of Law, and we are trying to make sure that our graduates get into diverse fields of law; not just criminal and litigation. At the School of Law, we make you reach a position to create your own opportunity and build your area of interest." The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, who underscored three foundational pillars of professionalism: "First is Intellectual Rigour that gets into the up-to-date facts, judgments and technologies that drive the society. Second comes Ethical Integrity, to do things right in a way yet that relates with technical integration. Third comes Commitment to Fact and being fair to the case considering the petitioner and defendant." The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Sameena Chatrapathy, Senior Partner at Chugh Universal Legal, Chennai, who shared her personal journey and offered valuable guidance to the freshers, stating "There is something for everyone and there is always a space to make your mark. When we entered, there was just litigation. Anybody who was born out of law school went to do litigation. Seize the opportunities that work for you and make the most of it. Just believe in yourself. There's never a right or wrong, it's how much of what you make of the decision you make that measures how right the decision really was. Always hold strong values. As I said, values and ethics. Be open and honest. Never be driven by someone else's success, but by your own experience," The event also witnessed the unveiling of the Academic Annual Report 2024-25, curated by Dr. R. Keerthana (Editor-in-Chief) and Dr. G. Aarthi (Associate Editor), with contributions from student coordinators. More than 700 take part in workshop on SDGs at SRMIST
: Over 700 research scholars, faculty, and students from across the State took part in a two-day national workshop on 'India 2030: Innovate, Integrate, Inspire-The Path to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals', organised by SRM Institute of Science and Technology last week. Sponsored by the Indian Council for Social Science Research, the workshop was organised to foster innovative ideas, integrate diverse perspectives, and drive action towards achieving the SDGs by 2030. C. Rangarajan, former Governor, Reserve Bank of India, and Chairman, Madras School of Economics, delivered the keynote address on 'Macroeconomics, Growth with Equity, and Social Infrastructure', underlining the fact that economic growth without equity is unsustainable and incomplete. SRMIST, The Hindu to hold third webinar on multidisciplinary learning on June 10
The SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), in collaboration with The Hindu, will organise the third webinar in their series on Future Career Conversations on June 10. Titled 'Beyond Boundaries: How Multidisciplinary Learning Prepares You for a Complex World', the session will dwell upon the growing relevance of integrated learning across disciplines, especially humanities and sciences. The session, which starts at 11.30 a.m., will seek to address questions pertaining to the choice of the right course or stream to balance student interests and future prospects, the kind of learning to face the fast-evolving world, and how humanities and sciences work together to shape better career and life outcomes. Multi-disciplinary approach crucial for students to land jobs: academics at a webinar
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) scores do not ensure lucrative job opportunities, rather students should focus on acquiring social and life skills, speakers at a webinar have said. Organised jointly by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) and The Hindu, the webinar was part of a series on 'Future Career Conversations: Reimagining Futures through Humanities and Sciences' and explored the topic 'Beyond Marksheets: Building Real World Skills through Humanities and Sciences'. Professor A. Vinay Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, said that employers these days look for candidates capable of critical and emotional thinking, effective communication, and innovatively solving problems. A multi-disciplinary approach to academics, looking beyond the conventional framework of education, helps acquire the requisite skills, he said. To be able to solve societal issues with empathy, students need to have aptitude and curiosity that comes from studying subjects like literature, history, psychology, music, and philosophy. While urging parents to drop their fixation with marks, ranks, and results, A. Joseph Dorairaj, Emeritus Professor, School of English and Foreign Languages, Gandhigram Rural Institute, said that increasingly, institutions are favouring competency-based frameworks and relaxing eligibility criteria for admission. Both speakers underlined the importance of students developing cognitive skills and equipping themselves with technology, irrespective of the subjects they are studying.

Webinar series by SRMIST and The Hindu to explore future of humanities and sciences
