KPDN eyes RM300,000 in sales through KBBM at Southern Zone tour
KPDN Business Development Division director Adiratno Che Ani said the KBBM pavilion recorded RM93,910 in sales on the first day alone, despite coinciding with several large-scale events in the state.
'We are confident that Johor consumers' purchasing power will help us surpass RM300,000 in total sales over the three-day programme, which involves 63 vendors,' he told Bernama at the carnival in Puteri Harbour today.
He said the pavilion features entrepreneurs from Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, representing a variety of local brands that are gaining traction among consumers.
'Among the well-known names taking part are Zus Coffee, Adabi, Mamee Double Decker and Simplicity (Gaya Loop), along with strategic partners such as Proton and Perodua, which are showcasing their products outside the pavilion,' he said.
Adiratno said the campaign not only focuses on food and beverages, but also highlights household items, health and beauty products, clothing and other lifestyle goods produced by local entrepreneurs.
'KBBM has been revitalised to boost public awareness and confidence in locally made products, which are comparable in quality to international brands. It also provides more space for local entrepreneurs to tap into wider markets,' he said.
He also urged the public to visit the carnival this long weekend and support local vendors, many of whom may not yet be widely recognised as Malaysian-made brands.
'Some products are so well branded that people don't realise they are local. This is the perfect opportunity to identify, try and support Malaysian-made goods,' he said.
The KBBM 2025, launched by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali yesterday, aims to expand the market reach of local products, reduce reliance on imports, boost domestic economic growth, and support local entrepreneurs, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

TA Securities said in its recent note that should the U.S. implement sector-specific tariffs on semiconductor imports, it could materially impact end-market demand and Malaysian technology corporate earnings. According to the research house, heading into the second half, there are three major factors that could potentially influence the sector's earnings, U.S. policies; global semiconductor sales; progress of Malaysia's National Semiconductor Strategy. "Should the U.S. administration proceed with imposing tariffs on semiconductor imports, it could severely disrupt the global supply chain and dampen end-user demand," the research house said. Hence, it believed the policy risk will likely persist in the coming months, potentially leading to delays in orders and capital expenditure plans as corporates adopt a more conservative approach in response to the lack of policy visibility. Meanwhile, TA Securities noted that the global semiconductor market was still undergoing an upcycle, with positive momentum expected to continue into the second half.

Ministry refutes ice price hike claim

Kota Kinabalu: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic) has clarified that the recent claim saying there's a hike in the price of ice from RM3.70 to RM6 is inaccurate. The ice manufacturer in question has lodged a police report. He said the Ministry takes viral claims seriously, but urged the public to verify such information before spreading it. 'The ice manufacturer involved confirmed they did not issue the notice,' he said. While acknowledging that some producers may have made minor price adjustments, especially for block ice, Armizan said no formal notice of a price hike to RM6 had been submitted to the Ministry. KPDN summoned the ice company to provide a detailed explanation regarding any price changes, including whether the adjustments are related to increased electricity tariffs, raw material costs or the implementation of Sales and Service Tax (SST). 'If they claim the increase is due to SST, we will require a breakdown of which components led to the price adjustment. It's not just about the new price, but the profit margin or price range must also be justified,' he said. Armizan said Ops Kesan 4.0, which begins on July 1, 2025, will monitor such movements closely and action will be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723) if there is evidence of unreasonable price hikes. 'The law allows us to issue a notice, and if we find profiteering, individuals can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed for three years, while companies face fines of up to RM500,000,' he warned. He reminded all businesses, especially those dealing with essential items like ice, to act responsibly and ensure any price changes are transparent and based on actual cost increments. 'We understand that operational costs may change, but that doesn't mean prices can be increased arbitrarily. There must be accountability,' said Armizan. Malaysia sees Italy as key strategic partner, says Anwar
