Ministry refutes ice price hike claim

Kota Kinabalu: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic) has clarified that the recent claim saying there's a hike in the price of ice from RM3.70 to RM6 is inaccurate. The ice manufacturer in question has lodged a police report. He said the Ministry takes viral claims seriously, but urged the public to verify such information before spreading it. 'The ice manufacturer involved confirmed they did not issue the notice,' he said. While acknowledging that some producers may have made minor price adjustments, especially for block ice, Armizan said no formal notice of a price hike to RM6 had been submitted to the Ministry. KPDN summoned the ice company to provide a detailed explanation regarding any price changes, including whether the adjustments are related to increased electricity tariffs, raw material costs or the implementation of Sales and Service Tax (SST). 'If they claim the increase is due to SST, we will require a breakdown of which components led to the price adjustment. It's not just about the new price, but the profit margin or price range must also be justified,' he said. Armizan said Ops Kesan 4.0, which begins on July 1, 2025, will monitor such movements closely and action will be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723) if there is evidence of unreasonable price hikes. 'The law allows us to issue a notice, and if we find profiteering, individuals can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed for three years, while companies face fines of up to RM500,000,' he warned. He reminded all businesses, especially those dealing with essential items like ice, to act responsibly and ensure any price changes are transparent and based on actual cost increments. 'We understand that operational costs may change, but that doesn't mean prices can be increased arbitrarily. There must be accountability,' said Armizan. Housing Ministry pledges full cooperation in MACC's probe of the MyKiosk tender
PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has pledged full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into alleged irregularities in the tender process of the MyKiosk initiative. The Ministry affirmed that it will not compromise with any party found involved in corruption or abuse of power. The Ministry voluntarily handed over all documents related to the implementation of the MyKiosk initiative to the MACC on May 22, 2025. 'This move reflects the Ministry's strong commitment to upholding the principles of integrity and transparency. "We welcome the MACC's investigation as a vital step to ensure every government initiative is carried out with accountability, transparency, and free from any element of corruption," the Ministry stated on Wednesday (July 2). MyKiosk, one of the Ministry's economic empowerment initiatives, aims to support small-scale traders by providing affordable kiosks nationwide. The ceiling cost for each MyKiosk 2.0 unit was set at RM25,000 by the Department of Local Government. "All procurement processes and contractor appointments under MyKiosk were carried out via open quotations by 133 local authorities across the country. "A total of 795 contractors have been appointed by the respective local authorities to undertake the supply and placement of the kiosks," it added. The Ministry reiterated that it would not tolerate any misconduct or corrupt practices at any stage of procurement or implementation, including at the local authority level. To further strengthen internal integrity, the Ministry has implemented several preventive measures, including the Traffic Light System and the establishment of Integrity Units at every local authority. These units are tasked with monitoring and assessing integrity performance while combating corrupt practices within their respective jurisdictions. Earlier, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed that the commission had launched a preliminary investigation following a complaint lodged by a political party. "The Governance Investigation Division has also begun a parallel inquiry into the project. Besides the Ministry, which has submitted a comprehensive report on the tender process and award, several other parties involved have also submitted relevant documents," he said.

Couple makes RM6,400 weekly from selling adult videos, escort services

KUALA LUMPUR – A married couple who had four children were arrested in Shah Alam for allegedly promoting online pornographic videos and offering prostitution services, earning up to RM6,400 a week. The couple, both 34, were detained by Kuala Lumpur police in a hotel in Section 27, Shah Alam, during an operation known as Op E-Noda on Tuesday night. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed the seizure of three mobile phones, two condoms, a tube of lubricant, a packet of wet tissues, a bath towel and an access card. He said the husband played the role of content creator by promoting and selling pornographic videos, while also arranging prostitution services using Telegram and a social media platform identified as the 'X' app. The couple was detained at a hotel in Shah Alam on Tuesday. Charges were RM50 for a 'Private Channel Limited Content' subscription and RM150 for 'Private Channel VVIP Unlimited Content',' he said. 'It is estimated the suspects earned up to RM6,400 per week,' he said. Rusdi revealed that the wife was the main performer in the videos and also worked as a sex worker to attract more buyers. He added that sexual service sessions were priced between RM450 and RM800 and took place at a four-star hotel. The couple has been remanded for three days at Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters until Friday, and the case is being investigated under Section 372(1)(e), Section 372B and Section 372A of the Penal Code as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
