Housing Ministry pledges full cooperation in MACC's probe of the MyKiosk tender
The Ministry voluntarily handed over all documents related to the implementation of the MyKiosk initiative to the MACC on May 22, 2025.
'This move reflects the Ministry's strong commitment to upholding the principles of integrity and transparency.
"We welcome the MACC's investigation as a vital step to ensure every government initiative is carried out with accountability, transparency, and free from any element of corruption," the Ministry stated on Wednesday (July 2).
MyKiosk, one of the Ministry's economic empowerment initiatives, aims to support small-scale traders by providing affordable kiosks nationwide.
The ceiling cost for each MyKiosk 2.0 unit was set at RM25,000 by the Department of Local Government.
"All procurement processes and contractor appointments under MyKiosk were carried out via open quotations by 133 local authorities across the country.
"A total of 795 contractors have been appointed by the respective local authorities to undertake the supply and placement of the kiosks," it added.
The Ministry reiterated that it would not tolerate any misconduct or corrupt practices at any stage of procurement or implementation, including at the local authority level.
To further strengthen internal integrity, the Ministry has implemented several preventive measures, including the Traffic Light System and the establishment of Integrity Units at every local authority.
These units are tasked with monitoring and assessing integrity performance while combating corrupt practices within their respective jurisdictions.
Earlier, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed that the commission had launched a preliminary investigation following a complaint lodged by a political party.
"The Governance Investigation Division has also begun a parallel inquiry into the project. Besides the Ministry, which has submitted a comprehensive report on the tender process and award, several other parties involved have also submitted relevant documents," he said.

Court grants Thomas' bid to disqualify Justice Roz Mawar
PUTRAJAYA: Former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has succeeded in disqualifying a High Court judge from hearing a defamation suit filed against him by Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Ab. Samad. A three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal allowed Thomas' appeal to disqualify Justice Roz Mawar Rozain from hearing the case in its future proceedings. In the unanimous decision, read out by Justice Faizah Jamaludin, the panel ruled that the findings of the High Court judge were neither based on the book written by Thomas nor the pleadings filed by Shahrir. The panel chaired by Justice Supang Lian, found that the statement made by the judge when dismissing Thomas' striking out application of the main suit was based on an opinion that she formed rather than by merits of the case. 'As an informed and fair-minded bystander, given the facts and circumstances of the case, we perceive that these findings and observations do give rise to a risk of real danger of bias by the learned judge even though the bias may be unintentional. 'We allow this appeal and set aside the decision of the High Court judge dated Jan 14 with order that the learned High Court judge recuse herself from all future proceedings in the trial,' Justice Faizah said. Justice Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin is the third judge of the panel. Thomas filed the recusal application on Aug 26 last year, claiming that Justice Roz Mawar had made numerous baseless findings and contradictory statements to the claims in the lawsuit and the evidence presented in court. On Jan 14, Justice Roz Mawar dismissed Thomas's application, saying that an unhealthy trend had emerged of litigants seeking to disqualify judges from hearing their cases which is capable of eroding public confidence in the judicial arm of the state. Thomas then filed an appeal at the appellate court. The application stemmed from Shahrir's lawsuit against Thomas over what the former claimed was a malicious prosecution. Shahrir was charged at the Sessions Court on Oct 21, 2020, for allegedly failing to declare a RM1mil cheque he received from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for restoration work on the Puri Langkasuka housing project in Larkin, Johor. On Jan 5, 2023, High Court judge Justice Muhammad Jamil Hussin acquitted the former Johor Baru MP of the charge. In December the same year, Shahrir filed the lawsuit and named Thomas, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya, the MACC, and the government as defendants, for alleged malicious prosecution against him. Thomas, who served as AG from June 4, 2018, to Feb 28, 2020, refuted Shahrir's allegations of abuse of power, describing them as 'unsustainable'. He stated that the discretion to charge could only be exercised after the AG receives the investigation papers from agencies like the MACC. Thomas said he resigned on Feb 28, 2020, and that Shahrir's criminal trial for the charges began on July 26, 2022.

Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old beauty salon owner was fined RM1,400 or one month's jail by the Magistrate's Court here, Friday, for slapping her cousin. Zurinah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to one Siti Hazlinda, 30, on June 12, at 11.40am at a nail treatment outlet on the second floor of Centre Point shopping mall, here. Advertisement Zurinah was convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both on conviction. The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that the incident took place while the victim was at work in the said shopping mall when her cousin, Zurinah, suddenly confronted and slapped her once on the left cheek. Zurinah accused the victim of being the reason behind a verbal altercation between Zurinah and her father. The victim's employer, who witnessed the incident, intervened and broke up the confrontation before advising the victim to leave to avoid further escalation. The victim later lodged a police report. Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Zurinah, requested for a lenient sentence while the prosecution applied for an adequate sentence. In another case, a 26-year-old Filipino was sentenced to seven months' jail for disposing of a stolen smartphone. Sabri Anuar admitted to committing the offence by selling the stolen Xiomi 11T phone belonging to one Khalid Hussien to Azrien Norsalim on June 15, this year, at 10pm, in Kg Numbak here. The charge, under Section 414 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction. Sabri was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter. Bogus land sale: Man charged

KENINGAU: A 36-year-old man was charged with cheating a woman of RM5,000 over a land sale transaction. Calvin Matius pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Flavian Edward. Advertisement Calvin is accused of cheating the woman by offering a cheap price of a land through Facebook which led to the latter paying Calvin in two transactions at 10.12am on April 10, this year, at a restaurant here. The charge stated that Calvin had offered a piece of NT-status land measuring 0.11 acres located in a village around here for RM25,000, and was informed that Calvin and another individual, Sudirman, were the 'owners' of the land. The offence, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. The court set Aug 4 and Calvin was granted bail of RM3,000 with one local surety.
