CM: Govt keen to replicate Japanese city devpt model
Hyderabad: The State government and Kitakyushu city on Monday signed a cooperative agreement to strengthen relations and to boost inclusive economic growth, zero emission and urban innovation between Telangana and the Japan city in the future.
Welcoming the delegation to Hyderabad on the state formation day celebrations, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that the government will put more efforts to improve air connectivity between Kitakyushu and Hyderabad. He noted that the development of Kitakyushu was close to Telangana Rising and hoped the relations between the two states will be strengthened further.
It was a delightful moment to have an official dialogue with Kitakyushu officials on the significant day on state formation day, the CM said, adding that Telangana was heading towards a fast pace development by collaborating with global partners.
Stating that he studied the development model in Kitakyushu city during his recent Japan tour, CM Revanth Reddy said that the eco-town model in the city has inspired him and the state government signed agreements with many Japanese companies to develop an identical model in Hyderabad.
Revanth also briefed the delegation about the government's focus on the Musi rejuvenation project and creation of assets to strengthen the state economy under the project.
The CM explained the new skill development programmes for the youth launched by the government and the interest shown by Telangana students to learn Japanese language to explore opportunities in Japan in the meeting. The CM sought the help of the delegation to teach Japanese language to Telangana students.

NRI couple falls prey to realty fraud, lose Rs 10 cr
1 2 Hyderabad: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Cyberabad police registered a case against two real estate firms along with their senior executives for allegedly defrauding an NRI couple of Rs 10 crore in the name of a premium forest villa project. The accused duo has also been booked for threatening and intimidating the victims employing anti-social elements. According to complainant Anil Kumar Gullapally (44), an NRI businessman from Australia currently staying at Gundlapochampally, Sharat Nallamothu and his wife Pooja Nallamothu lured him and his wife, Tatineni Akhila, into investing in the 'Forest Villa Project' in Dec 2023. The NRI couple was told that the project — located in Bhairkhanpalle village of Rangareddy district — was being developed using the popular Japanese Miyawaki plantation method, over 150 acres. "The accused offered the victims a 20% stake in three related entities and made them pay Rs 4.47 crore through cheques and RTGS transfers. An additional Rs 5.53 crore was paid in cash," said an EOW official. When Anil visited the property in April 2024 he found no significant development. When he confronted the accused and sought his money back, the NRI alleged that Nallamothu along with six to eight other individuals threatened him and his family with dire consequences if they pursued legal action. Since the situation was unfavourable for the victims due to their NRI status and limited local support, they approached the EOW. EOW police registered a case under Sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 316(2) (punishment for criminal breach of trust), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) read with 61(2) (criminal conspiracy punishment) of the BNS against the accused. Investigators are collecting evidence from the complainant as part of the preliminary probe.

Trees, oxygen banks to save city from heat, polluted air
Varanasi: To mitigate threat of rising atmospheric temperature and climate change, govt is conducting large-scale tree-planting campaign. Additionally, 'oxygen banks' are being developed by creating new forest areas, a milestone in environmental protection and providing clean air. Three new forest areas are being developed in Varanasi, while 5.617 hectares of forest have already been developed in nine locations. The most unique and far-reaching aspect of this ambitious govt campaign is development of 'natural oxygen bank,' also known as 'lungs of the city' aimed at reducing pollution and providing clean air. Govt is running programmes like National Clean Air Mission, forest fund financing and municipal corporation financing to maintain environmental protection and pure oxygen in the atmosphere. Under this plan, dense forests are being developed using the Miyawaki technique in various city locations. Since 2020-21, 1,70,246 trees planted in nine locations turned into dense forests," said the DFO, adding that tree planting began at three new locations, including Ramna STP Plant and Banas Dairy Amul. Soil work is underway near Shankar Netralaya by NHAI, where planting will take place soon. Miyawaki method involves planting grass, herbs, shrubs, and small, medium, and large trees. She said after planting 81,000 trees across three locations on 2.7 hectares, the city's landscape will change. Near Ramna STP, 30,000 trees are being planted on 1 hectare, transforming the area into a dense green zone. A total of 45,000 trees are being planted on 1.5 hectare in Karkhiyav Industrial Area near Banas Dairy to reduce industrial pollution, while 6,000 trees are being planted on 0.2 hectare near Shankar Netralaya by NHAI.

Irish university to cut links with Israel over Gaza war DUBLIN: Ireland's prestigious Trinity College Dublin said on Wednesday that it would cut all links with Israel in protest at "ongoing violations of international and humanitarian law". The university's board informed students by email that it had accepted the recommendations of a taskforce to sever "institutional links with the State of Israel, Israeli universities and companies headquartered in Israel". The recommendations would be "enacted for the duration of the ongoing violations of international and humanitarian law", said the email sent by the board's chairman Paul Farrell, and seen by AFP. The taskforce was set up after part of the university's campus in central Dublin was blockaded by students for five days last year in protest at Israel's actions in Gaza.
