Fox Sports football reporter who quit ESPN over Disney's Covid vaccine mandate gets huge NFL promotion
Williams will be looking to make further strides at the network which she joined in 2022, after her unceremonious exit from rival broadcasters ESPN a year prior.
In 2021, Williams left ESPN after they refused to accommodate her decision not to get the COVID-19 vaccine because she was trying to get pregnant.
The Walt Disney Company, which owns ESPN, mandated that all cast members need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 - however Williams was trying for a child and announced that she would not be getting it.
She eventually left the network - where she worked on the sidelines at college football and basketball games - and swiftly joined Fox Sports.
Since then, she has worked as a college football sideline reporter and studio host for Fox however, she is now set to make another step forward in her career.
According to Front Office Sports, Williams will take on the role of NFL sideline reporter on one of the network's announce teams this season and replace the departing Laura Okmin.
Okmin will bid farewell to the network after turning down a contract extension. She is the third-longest-tenured sideline reporter in NFL history.
Okmin explained that it feels like the right time to walk away from her current role and focus on her company, GALvanize, which mentors young women in the sports world.
Williams, meanwhile, looks to have settled at Fox Sports after her exit from ESPN four years ago.
She was initially barred from working on the sidelines of college football games this season because she refused to comply with the network's vaccine mandate while she and her husband try for their second child.
In an Instagram video shared at the time, a visibly emotional Williams said that her 'request for accommodation' had been denied, about a month after announcing she would be sitting the season out because she hadn't yet received the vaccination.
'Ultimately, I can not put a paycheck over principal and I will not sacrifice something I believe in strongly to maintain a career,' Williams said near-tears in the video.
Shortly after that, she confirmed that she would be 'separating' from ESPN.
'Belief is a word I've been thinking about a lot lately, because in addition to the medical apprehensions regarding my desire to have another child in regards to receiving this injection, I am also so morally and ethically not aligned with this,' Williams said.
'And I've had to really dig deep and analyze my values and my morals, and ultimately I need to put them first.'
'And the irony in all this is that a lot of those same values and principals I hold so dear are what made me a really good employee and probably helped with the success that I've been able to have in my career.'
Williams, who had been with the network since 2011, said she was having trouble coming to terms with the fact that the national championship game she covered in January, 2021, may now be the last college football game she will work.

‘Panama Playlists' claims to expose Spotify libraries of JD Vance, Pam Bondi and other prominent figures
A new site called 'Panama Playlists' has claimed to expose the Spotify accounts of prominent figures including Vice President JD Vance and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The site, which the New York Post says quietly went live Wednesday, is run by an anonymous sleuth who claims they have been 'scraping' accounts of celebrities, politicians and journalists since the summer of 2024. The sleuth said their team has access to 'playlists, live listening feed, everything. I know what songs they played, when, and how many times.' 'Heard of the Panama Papers? That exposed offshore bank accounts. This is about onshore vibes,' the site read. So, what did the sleuth claim to find? Vance is into boy bands with Backstreet Boys' 'I Want It That Way' and One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' on his playlists, according to the site. Bondi loves her 2000s hits, including Nelly's 'Hot In Herre,' Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling,' and Usher's 'Yeah!' the sleuth claims. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had a playlist labeled 'Baby Shower,' which included strong female singers such as Beyoncé's 'Run the World (Girls) and Aretha Franklin's 'Respect,' per the site. The Independent has reached out to the White House for comment. The sleuth told the New York Post, 'I gained confidence in each person by looking at lots of signals. 'An example is Pam Bondi. Her longtime partner is John Wakefield, and her profile has an old playlist called 'john' and an old shared playlist with a user named 'John Wakefield,' so that gives me a lot of confidence it is her account.' Leavitt's apparent 'Baby Shower' playlist was also mentioned in the interview with the sleuth, saying, 'She had a baby a month after the playlist was made.' The sleuth told the New York Post only publicly available information was collected. A Spotify spokesperson told The Independent if the sleuth is using a Spotify account to scrape information from public playlists, they are violating the company's Terms of Use. The guidelines the spokesperson referenced prohibit making available to the public any content made available through the music streaming service. There were also prominent figures outside of Washington mentioned in the 'Panama Playlists,' such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The tech executive's 'My Shazam Tracks' playlist includes David Guetta, OneRepublic's 'I Don't Wanna Wait' and Missy Elliott's 'Get Ur Freak On,' according to the site. The sleuths also listed some 1970s songs late-night host Seth Meyers is claimed to enjoy: Jackson Browne's 'The Fuse' and Rickie Lee Jones' 'Chuck E's in Love.' NBC weatherman Al Roker is an Elton John fan, the website claims. 'Panama Playlists,' said his No. 1 song of the past year is John's 'Philadelphia Freedom,' followed by 'Are You Ready for Love.' NBA legend pokes fun at his arrest for illegal gambling in bizarre video after being released from jail on $50k bond
Former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas has poked fun at his arrest for allegedly running an illegal gambling operation after sharing a video on social media. The case against him was announced by the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California on Wednesday afternoon. However, during a court appearance, Arenas pleaded not guilty and was released pending trial after paying a $50,000 (£38,000) bond. The former Wizards star then swiftly took to social media to address fans and followers for the first time, as he triumphantly claimed: 'They can't hold me'. A video posted by Arenas showed him leaving the police department and joyfully walking down a set of stairs, while a woman behind the camera shouted: 'Free!' The caption to the post, on Arenas' Instagram, read: 'Im Back on the Block like its HOT. Named alongside Arenas - known in his playing days as 'Agent Zero' - are five co-conspirators who have been charged with operating and illegal gambling business. The other five people charged are as follows: Israeli suspected organized crime figure Yevgeni Gershman, 49, Evgenni Tourevski, 48, Allan Austria, 52, Yarin Cohen, 27, and Ievgen Krachun, 43. Along with Arenas, those five were detained without incident by LAPD, Homeland Security, and the IRS. If convicted, the defendants face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each count. Arenas was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon after appearing in a Los Angeles court for the first time. Trial is scheduled for September 23. An unsealed indictment reveals that from September 2021 to July 2022, Arenas rented out a mansion that he owned in Encino - north of Hollywood - 'for the purpose of hosting high-stakes illegal poker games', according to officials. The US Attorney's Office says a man named Arthur Kats staged the mansion to host the games 'at Arenas' direction' and also 'found co-conspirators to host the games, and collected rent from the co-conspirators on Arenas' behalf.' Officials say that the operation even included a poker felt labeled 'ARENAS POKER CLUB' - featuring an image of Arenas in his basketball uniform and his No. 0. 'Gershman, Tourevski, Austria, and Cohen managed illegal "Pot Limit Omaha" poker games, among other illegal games, at the Encino mansion, collected a "rake" - a fee the house charged from each pot either as a percentage or a fixed amount per hand - and invited players to compete,' officials say. Krachun, meanwhile, worked as a "chip runner" - tracking the wins and losses of the players involved, distributing poker chips, and paying employees. Gershman has been accused of hiring young women to serve drinks, provide massages, and offer companionship to the players in exchange for tips. These women were also charged a 'tax' - a percentage of their earnings from working the games. Additionally, chefs, valets, and armed security guards were hired. Beyond the games, Gershman has also been charged with three additional counts: conspiracy to commit marriage fraud, marriage fraud, and making a false statement on an immigration document. Gershman faces these charges alongside 35-year-old Valentina Cojocari - who he is alleged to have conspired to enter into a sham marriage with for the purpose of obtaining permanent legal status in the US. Arenas is the former owner of a five-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion in Encino located at 4550 Gable Drive that he sold in December of 2022, after the gambling business is believed to have ended. Authorities say this is where the operation was run. He sold the mansion for $3.1million. The property features lavish views and outdoor spaces (including a pool and a hot tub), a massive kitchen, and a three-car garage among other amenities. Arenas previously tried selling the property for as much as $3.8m. This is not the first time that Arenas has run afoul of the law. Most notably, Arenas was suspended for a total of 50 games in the 2009-10 season for bringing a firearm into the Wizards locker room and drawing it on teammate Javaris Crittenton in an argument about gambling debts. Police investigated the incident and charged Arenas with carrying a pistol without a license. He was sentenced to two-years probation and 30 days in a halfway house. In June of 2013, the LAPD arrested Arenas for possession of illegal fireworks. Off the court, Arenas has made a number of controversial racial statements about European players entering the NBA and about international stars from Africa . In the aftermath of Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green punching then-Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in December of 2023, Arenas appeared to praise him .

David Moyes: Everton aren't ready for next season
David Moyes slammed Everton 's attacking play and individual mistakes and warned his side are 'not ready' to start the Premier League season. Everton have yet to win any of their four pre-season games and slumped to a third straight defeat when they lost 2-1 to West Ham at Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday in their second game of the Premier League Summer Series. A blunder from new goalkeeper signing Mark Travers gifted Lucas Paqueta an equaliser before a defensive mix-up paved the way for Niclas Fullkrug to score West Ham's winner. Everton were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth last Sunday having lost to Blackburn and drawn with Accrington Stanley before flying to the US. 'We're not ready to perform well enough in this tournament. We're not ready to start the Premier League season,' said Moyes, whose side face Manchester United in Atlanta on Sunday. 'I'm not overly concerned [by the results] because I don't have the players which I need and what I want. And obviously, we're up against it right from the start. We knew before we came [to the US] we were going to be really up against it. So, it was never going to be us coming here and winning [games]. 'I think our attacking play at the moment has been really poor. I think we've not created enough chances anywhere. 'I think the way we're playing in that area of the pitch at the moment has been really below par. But we've made individual mistakes which has shown us up for that as well. 'It stood out tonight, some goalkeeping mistakes. At the weekend we made a couple of mistakes against Bournemouth.' Travers was signed from Bournemouth for £4 million this summer to provide competition for Jordan Pickford but had a game to forget. 'That's a very difficult question isn't it? Because you know the answer. He didn't perform well tonight. He knows that. We know that,' Moyes said. 'I knew we were going to be incredibly short' Moyes has admitted Everton are running out of time to strengthen their squad and getting increasingly desperate. The Everton manager has made four signings but wants another six players and would have faced a big enough challenge to bed in a revamped squad if he had all pre-season to work with them. But Moyes said the prospect of trying to integrate large numbers of new players during the season is 'really difficult'. Injuries to key players, including Jarrad Branthwaite, have not helped either. 'It's why you always attempt to get your players in early if you can because you'd rather have that,' he said. 'There's a bigger turnover of players now at clubs. They used to say, 'Hey, let's sign maybe three or maybe four players tops every season.' 'But because of the way the bigger squads and maybe boys who not getting a game, they want to go, you find that there's a bigger revolving door of players. So a lot of clubs will be signing quite big numbers, which they are now, more than what was done in the past if you look at it. 'We wanted to have the players in a lot sooner, especially coming here [to the US], I knew we were going to be incredibly short.' On the upside, Moyes was relieved to welcome back James Tarkowski against West Ham after more than three months out. 'That was one of the positives, getting Tarky back for 20 minutes,' he said. 'He's been out for the best part of 12 or 14 weeks now so getting Tarky back is really important. A big strength of the team has probably been Tarky and Jarrad [Branthwaite] plus the goalkeeper [Jordan Pickford].'
