Thar driver held for mowing down biker in Delhis Moti Nagar
New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was apprehended for allegedly mowing down a man with his Thar SUV in west Delhi's Moti Nagar, police said on Sunday.
Amrinder Singh (25), a resident of Sudarshan Park, allegedly rammed his vehicle into the motorcycle of Bhikshu Lal (40). The biker died on the spot, the police said.
The incident occurred near the Sudarshan Park locality around midnight on Friday. Lal was found lying in a pool of blood after his two-wheeler was hit.
Following the crash, the SUV also collided with a truck before coming to a halt. The accused had initially fled the spot, abandoning his vehicle, but was later traced and apprehended, a senior officer said.
'The driver of the Thar has been taken into custody. Further legal proceedings are being carried out," The officer added.
The police said CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to establish the exact sequence of events. Initial inquiry suggested that Singh himself was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
Earlier this month, a Thar SUV had run over two pedestrians near the 11 Murti landmark in Chanakyapuri, killing one person and grievously injuring another. PTI BM NB NB

Sowmya stepped in, defending her son and clarifying that he was too young to understand the significance of the item and had not caused any harm. The argument briefly simmered down, and both families went back to their homes, the report stated. Around 9:30 pm, Rajeshwari's son allegedly arrived at the couple's residence with a group of accomplices. The group allegedly verbally abused Gangadhar, dragging him outside and attacking him with a cricket bat, the report stated. She claimed she was struck multiple times on her head, back, and abdomen, while also being blamed for escalating the situation. Gangadhar was reportedly shoved into an open drain, and the attackers vandalized the couple's home before leaving with threats of further violence, the report added. Initially booked as a case of assault, the matter drew wider attention after media coverage prompted police to re-examine the details. Authorities have since added charges of attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Meanwhile, Rajeshwari and her family have allegedly fled, leaving their house locked. Civets urinate in Kerala CJs court; bad smell leads to halting of proceedings
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Kochi, Aug 19 (PTI) Civets on Tuesday caused the halting of proceedings in the court of Kerala Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar on Tuesday morning following the 'unbearable bad smell" from the mammals urinating in the false ceiling of the courtroom. The urgent and new matters in the court's list were taken up quickly and adjourned to other dates by the division bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji and then the room was closed for cleaning, court sources said. A senior government pleader who was present in the court said that the civet urine smell issue had been there for the past few days, but since Monday afternoon it had become 'unbearable". 'Today morning also the smell was very bad. So the urgent matters and those on the 'today's list' were quickly taken up by the bench and after that the courtroom was closed around 11.30 am for cleaning," the lawyer said. It was not clear whether the court would resume hearings during the day of the other matters on its list. He also said that traps had been laid a day ago to catch the civets and one of them was found trapped in it on Tuesday morning. Cop held for taking Rs 15,000 bribe at police station in Thane
Agency: Last Updated: Thane, Aug 19 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested a 42-year-old sub-inspector (SI) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a man at a police station in Maharashtra's Thane district, the ACB said on Tuesday. The police had registered a case against the man's brother for an offence. The accused SI demanded Rs 25,000 from the person to save his brother from arrest and help him in the case, an ACB official said. The person, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Thane ACB which laid a trap and caught the SI red-handed while taking Rs 15,000 as part payment of the amount in Kashigaon Police Station premises on Monday, he said.
