‘Superman' Takes Flight With Full Trailer From James Gunn
Superman's latest footage offers a new look at the titular DC Comics character's heroics.
The full trailer for writer-director James Gunn's movie was released Wednesday, ahead of the Warner Bros. hitting theaters July 11. Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The new film focuses on the titular superhero, who made his way to Earth from the planet Krypton and grapples with his powers while blending in as journalist Clark Kent.
'He's not a man,' Hoult says in the trailer. 'He's an 'it' and somehow become the focal point of the entire world's conversation.'
Previously released footage showed an injured Superman getting rescued when his trusty dog, Krypto, drags him to the Fortress of Solitude. After Superman thanks a robot crew for their help, one of them replies, 'No need to thank us, sir, as we will not appreciate it.'
Gunn announced on Instagram earlier this week that he would be revealing the full trailer, adding the caption, 'I've been waiting too long to share this with you all!'
Superman's release marks a pivotal and high-stakes moment for Warner Bros., in addition to DC Studios bosses Gunn and Peter Safran, who produce this project. The film co-stars Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
Gunn joined his stars on the CinemaCon stage last month, where Corenswet discussed how he felt to portray the Man of Steel. 'It's a great honor to play a role that exists so clearly in the public consciousness,' the star said.

The release also comes with the roadshow version of the film and special features including three commentary tracks, a nearly 3-hour making-of documentary, featurettes, and more. Elsewhere in the realm of 'dad cinema' is the mob drama The Alto Knights starring Robert De Niro on Blu-Ray from Warner Bros. The release comes with Dolby Atmos audio but no special features. In the world of arthouse cinema, we have the unusual William S. Burroughs adaptation Queer from director Luca Guadagnino and star Daniel Craig on Blu-Ray courtesy of A24. The release arrives with a Dolby Atmos audio track, a commentary track, featurettes, and more. From Focus Features, we have the charming music-driven drama The Ballad of Wallis Island starring Tim Key, Tom Basden, and Carey Mulligan, hitting Blu-Ray with a great A/V presentation and no special features. Fans of television are sitting pretty this week with a nice variety of titles hitting physical media. GKIDS and Shout! Studios tackle the first season of the hit anime Dan Da Dan on Blu-Ray featuring all 12 episodes in your choice of Japanese or English audio. The release comes packed with various interviews, scene breakdowns, featurettes, and more. Paramount Home Entertainment brings the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin to Blu-Ray with an optional SteelBook. The release contains 10 episodes from the first season and an additional featurette. The long-awaited release of The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series arrives on DVD featuring all nine seasons of the show, although four episodes have been omitted and some music has been changed due to music licensing issues that have held up the release for years. It is a huge month for Arrow Video releases as we dive into a trio of releases. First up, we have the techno-thriller Swordfish starring John Travolta, Hugh Jackman, and Halle Berry arriving on 4K UHD Blu-Ray newly scanned in 4K from the 35mm Original Camera Negative with Dolby Vision, a commentary track, new interviews, and loads of featurettes. The label also has the Alex Proyas sci-fi noir Dark City on 4K UHD Blu-Ray featuring both the Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut on 4K UHD Blu-Ray restored in 4K from the Original Camera Negative with Dolby Vision and a new Dolby Atmos audio track to accompany the original audio. The release is loaded with special features including over 5 commentary tracks, a new documentary, visual essays, featurettes, and more. Finally, Arrow has the Blu-Ray release of The Invisible Swordsman from an HD master supplied by Kadokawa with a commentary track and a pair of interviews. The fine folks at Radiance Films continue lifting up Japanese cinema with Tai Kato's adaptation of The Tale Of Oiwa's Ghost on Blu-Ray from an HD master supplied by Toei. The release comes with an interview and a visual essay. Anchor Bay has the buddy odyssey movie Sour Party in which two slacker friends traverse the city trying to find money to buy a baby shower gift. The Blu-Ray comes with a commentary track, featurettes, and more. Mill Creek Entertainment has a new Collector's Edition Blu-Ray of the '80s bicycle drama Rad on Blu-Ray with an all-new feature documentary on the making of the film included. What The SUPERMAN: WELCOME TO METROPOLIS Novel Reveals About James Gunn's SUPERMAN Movie — GeekTyrant
James Gunn's Superman is just around the corner, but DC fans hungry for early details are already digging into the officially licensed prequel novel Superman: Welcome to Metropolis . Written by David Lewman and released June 3 via Penguin Random House, the 144-page book serves up an origin-lite version of Clark Kent's early days in Metropolis complete with a job hunt, supervillain fights, and first contact with future allies. The novel is described as being 'inspired by the film,' which gives Gunn plenty of wiggle room to keep, or discard, whatever he wants from it. But for fans who want a head start on this new version of Superman, it's a fun tease at what is coming. The story opens with Clark trying to land a job at the Daily Planet. He gets it by writing an exclusive interview with Superman. That's right, the rookie reporter's first assignment is basically a PR piece on himself, written after stopping Lex Luthor from sabotaging a toy factory. Why a toy factory? Luthor claims it's smuggling contraband in stuffed animals. His henchman Otis questions the logic, but Luthor quickly shuts him down. Either way, the incident puts Superman on his radar. After Clark's 'debut,' Luthor sends a half-human, half-machine weapon, Metallo, to attack City Hall. Superman intervenes, and for the first time, we meet the so-called Justice Gang, which includes Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner (Green Lantern), and Hawkgirl. It's worth noting that Guy is the one who insists on the name 'Justice Gang,' though Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl clearly don't love it. Superman manages to overpower Metallo and toss him into the harbor, but Luthor recovers the body and upgrades it using a mysterious green element. Though it's never named, we can assume it's kryptonite. In round two, Metallo nearly defeats Superman, who's saved at the last second by the Justice Gang. Impressed by their teamwork, Mister Terrific invites Superman to join them. He doesn't give an answer, but the door is clearly open. Meanwhile, Lois Lane is trying to get an interview with Lex, and she's less than thrilled about the Daily Planet's new hire. Jimmy Olsen also makes an appearance. Eventually, Clark helps Lois get an exclusive with Superman, continuing his trend of scooping the newsroom using inside info. The book ends with Lex gathering pieces of the destroyed Metallo and realizing that the strange green element may be the key to bringing Superman down for good. That story thread, along with the mention of the armored villain The Hammer of Boravia (an original creation from James Gunn's film), suggests that while Metallo might not appear in the movie, elements from the book could bleed into future films. The timeline is fuzzy. It's not made clear how long before the film the book is set, or whether it fits into the DCU continuity Gunn is crafting. But Welcome to Metropolis definitely seems like a soft-launch for the tone and world of Gunn's Superman. Whether this story officially 'counts' or not, it's a solid warm-up for what's coming in July.

Frank Grillo Talks About Why His DC Character Has Been So Much More Fulfilling Than His Marvel Role Ever Was — GeekTyrant
Frank Grillo is one of the few in the club of those who have played characters in both the DC and Marvel Universes. He played Brock Rumlow, a.k.a. Crossbones, in the Marvel movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). He returned to voice the character in the series What If…? , and appeared in Avengers: Endgame . Though his appearance was brief, he's kept himself busy in other franchises, namely DC, and he's a lot happier with this arc over there than he ever was at Marvel. During a recent appearance on the Tulsa King panel at Fan Expo Dallas, moderated and hosted by ScreenRant, Grillo looked back on his time with the MCU, while sharing why he is having a better time being part of the DCU franchise. After discussing the MCU's Crossbones, Grillo explained what the upside is to playing a character like Flag Sr. in the DCU while working together with James Gunn: 'Rick Flag Sr... It was unfortunate because Crossbones isn't onscreen that much, and this is years ago. People love that character, and Marvel seems to have reused every other character except Crossbones. 'Now he's popping up in Spider-Man comics and Daredevil comics because he's a great villain, so I was expecting to have a lot of fun with it. But unfortunately, he perished kind of quickly. But I love working with James Gunn. ''I did the voice for Creature Commandos, and then I'm in Peacemaker, which is coming up in August. And before that, it's Superman with Rick Flag. So, it's different; it's more of an adventure than the Marvel stuff was.' Grillo's Flag Sr. makes his live-action debut with Superman in July, before returning in Peacemaker season 2.
