Colorado football's spot revealed in 247Sports' Big 12 preseason poll

USA Today09-07-2025
The Big 12 announced last month that it will discontinue its conference-backed preseason media polls, following last year's poll that incorrectly predicted Arizona State, the eventual conference champion, would finish in last place.
With no official media poll this year, many media outlets will compile their own polls. 247Sports recently released their preseason poll, with Arizona State (233 points) coming out on top after winning the Big 12 Championship a year ago. Kansas State (231 points), Texas Tech (213) and Baylor (213) round out the top four. Based on the vote totals, the Big 12 looks to be as competitive as ever.
The poll slotted Colorado as the No. 10 overall team ahead of the Houston Cougars and behind BYU. With 127 points, the Buffs finished significantly ahead of Houston, which received only 81 points. Colorado seems to find itself around the middle of the pack when it comes to various preseason rankings, with USA TODAY Sports also having the Buffs as the tenth-best squad in their latest power rankings.
As far as media polls go, they do a good job of providing fans with a snapshot of what to expect going into a season. However, with the transfer portal shifting how rosters are built, conferences like the Big 12 and Big Ten believe that preseason media polls do more harm than good.
USA TODAY Sports' columnist Dan Wolken wrote that perhaps the Big 12 eliminated their preseason poll because of the "upside-down nature of last year's [2024] conference title race created a perception that the league wasn't very good."
Wolken makes a great point that although Arizona State went on to win the Big 12, the preseason media poll generated a perception that the Sun Devils were worse than their record showed.
Whether the negative perception indeed stemmed from the preseason poll's incorrect ranking remains to be seen. Still, it is a fair argument from a conference that may feel slighted by the College Football Playoff committee for undervaluing its conference. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark seemed to agree when talking at this week's Big 12 media days.
Enjoy the preseason polls while they last, college football fans, but always take them with a grain of salt.

Jay Glazer gives Broncos' weight room a glowing review

NFL insider Jay Glazer is no stranger to strength and conditioning, having served as a trainer in mixed martial arts for professional football players and athletes over the years. So it should also be no surprise that he enjoys weight rooms and strength programs. Glazer recently visited the Denver Broncos' facilities and marveled at the club's weight room. Glazer loved it so much that he not only broadcast it to his X (formerly Twitter) account but also rated it the best weight room in the entire NFL. The weight room has become an essential part of the success of NFL athletes, pro athletes, and athletes worldwide. For the Broncos, it's clear that investing in their weight room is a big part of their success, and under Sean Payton, they will need it now more than ever as they look to build off their 10-7 season and make a deeper playoff run. Dianna Russini discusses Bo Nix and Broncos' outlook with Rich Eisen

Not all the experts are down on the Denver Broncos going into 2025! On the Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic talked about the state of the Broncos heading into 2025. "Let's just start with the star of the show with Bo Nix," said Russini. "He's different this year, Rich. He's a big boy now. I was with him last year (at) this time, and my favorite question to ask second-year coaches, quarterbacks, players even is, 'What's the difference? Take me through your first training camp compared to now.' Because Bo and I had spoken last year, he was so transparent. He's like, 'Whatever I was saying to you, was not true. I didn't know what I was doing!' He was so relatable. He was like, 'I was just trying to get through. I memorized the plays, I didn't understand the plays.' He went from just doing it to understanding the 'why' of it." Later on in the interview, Russini spoke about expectations around the Broncos from their ownership to players. "They are not afraid to talk Super Bowl," said Russini. "You know, sometimes you go to these teams and it's like, 'Let's just focus on today. We gotta make sure we get our lunch in; we got to get through this walkthrough.' This team's like, 'We want the Super Bowl,' which tells me they got the confidence because they're seeing it." That is great news to hear in Broncos Country! After having several mediocre years of not knowing who will be coach, quarterback or having a change in ownership, stability and championship expectations have returned in Denver. Texas A&M lands commitment from the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive shortstop

After a rough 2025 MLB Draft, the Texas A&M staff had to return to the transfer portal to address depth needs in the infield. Coach Earley found a diamond in the rough within the Texas A&M University System. On Wednesday night, it was announced that West Texas A&M shortstop Elijah Batista will spend his final collegiate season in Aggieland. Batista played two years at junior college Western Texas College, where he batted .304 with 42 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in his final season before signing with the Buffs. He's an intriguing defensive prospect who earned Lone Star Conference All-Defensive honors in 2024 with a .951 fielding percentage, though that dipped to a concerning .938. With Maddox Latta opting to sign a pro deal, the Aggies needed to add talent at shortstop. With the help of Cliff Pennington, the hope is to coach up several players and let the best talent emerge. While Batista's defensive metrics slipped, his bat showed improvement. He posted a 2025 slash line of .293/.394/.494 with 40 RBIs and seven home runs. Batista is making a significant leap to Division I baseball in what many consider the toughest conference in the nation. If the staff can help him return to his 2024 form while bringing him up to speed, the sky's the limit.
