Priyank Kharge accuses BJP of ‘hijacking' credit for Yellow Line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Bengaluru on Sunday (August 10, 2025) inaugurated the much-awaited Yellow Line of Bangalore Metro and the Vande Bharat Express train between Bengaluru and Belagavi.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Kharge said, 'The Metro project was launched under the UPA Government led by Manmohan Singh. In the first phase, the UPA Government bore a significant portion of the cost, outpacing the State Government's contribution.'
According to him, after BJP came to power, their commitment to the project dwindled, with the Central Government's share decreasing drastically in subsequent phases.
'The Karnataka Government has shouldered the bulk of the expenses, contributing over ₹12,000 crore, covering land acquisition costs and additional expenses,' he added.
The Central Government only provided ₹8,000 crore for the project, he pointed out.
'This lack of support forced BMRCL to take loans to cover the remaining project costs. While Karnataka's contributions to the Centre continue to grow year after year, the returns to the state diminish, and the Yellow Line project is a glaring example of this,' said Mr. Kharge.
Meanwhile, speaking to PTI Videos, Tejasvi Surya, MP of Bengaluru South, insisted that the PM 'pushed for public infrastructure in Bengaluru', stating that between the Yellow Line and the proposed Orange Line that the PM is laying the foundation stone for on Sunday, 18 lakh commuters will benefit.

'But Congress tries to take credit for all the things in which they don't have any role. You may have seen recently, Congress tried to take credit for even the IPL victory,' said Mr. Surya.
The credit for the success of it goes to the people of Bengaluru, nobody else, he added.

BJP launches Tiranga Yatra campaign in Prayagraj
1 2 Prayagraj: The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday launched its Tiranga Yatra campaign and appealed to the citizens of the city to hoist the Tiranga (Tricolour) at their houses. Party's spokesman, Rajesh Kesarwani, told TOI, "On instructions of the central leadership, party workers will hoist the tricolour with pride in every house. The Tiranga Yatra campaign will be run across the city from August 10 to August 12 at the mandal level. Tiranga Yatra was taken out at Mutthiganj, Preetam Nagar, and Rajrooppur mandals on Sunday under its mandal level programmes." On August 14, on India Partition Horror Memorial Day (Bharat Vibhajan Bhibhiksha Diwas), a silent procession will be taken out along with an exhibition. Kesarwani said, "From August 13 to August 15, around one lakh tricolour flags will be hoisted across the Mahanagar. For that, we have appealed to citizens and party workers to hoist the tricolour in all the houses and establishments of the city." PM Modi flags off 3 Vande Bharat trains, launches RV Road-Bommasandra yellow metro line in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the long-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, and flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains, including the extended Bengaluru–Belagavi service, marking a significant day for Karnataka's transport infrastructure. The 19.15-km Yellow Line corridor, conceived in the 2011 Detailed Project Report prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has faced multiple delays since construction began in 2017. Initially targeted for completion in December 2021, the project was hindered by land acquisition hurdles, the COVID-19 pandemic, and supply delays from Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC Nanjing. Designed to serve eight lakh commuters along the Electronics City corridor, the new metro line aims to significantly ease road congestion—especially at the notoriously clogged Silk Board junction. However, the initial rollout has faced criticism due to limited operational capacity, with only three train sets available and resulting 25-minute intervals between services. Commuters have expressed frustration, describing the inauguration as largely symbolic given the insufficient frequency. The event unfolded amid a charged political atmosphere. At Ragigudda Metro Station, Congress supporters raised slogans in support of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who emphasized that the Metro project is a collaborative effort between the state and union governments—not the property of any single political party. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy accused BJP leaders, including State unit chief B.S.
