Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are ‘beautifully in love with each other', says Karan Johar: ‘Don't judge their love story'

Actor couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh attracted controversy after their joint appearance on Koffee with Karan in 2023. They spoke about their relationship, and Deepika confessed that for a while, they wanted to keep things flexible and open. In a recent interview, filmmaker Karan Johar, who also hosts the chat show, defended them against the backlash they attracted following the episode, and said that they are a solid couple. He also spoke about the controversy that erupted following cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul's appearance on the show, and admitted that he was worried about their careers.
Appearing on Raj Shamani's podcast, Karan was asked about having any regrets about Koffee with Karan, and he said that everything that goes on the air has been carefully cleared. He also said that he agrees to edit out portions if guests make requests. But, he admitted that he was quite shaken by the backlash that Rahul and Hardik experienced following their appearance. 'What I felt terrible about, more than anything else, was what happened to Hardik and Rahul. That really threw me off, because I hoped that there is no damage to anybody. It's the universe's grace that they're both doing phenomenally. They're national treasures. A show like mine can't dampen heroes of our nation. I was really worried and scared about that. I'm not a cricket fanatic at all, but I started watching cricket only to follow their careers,' he said.
Asked about Ranveer and Deepika, Karan said, 'I think they spoke from their heart. I thought they were honest. I think (the backlash) was ridiculous, I'm sorry. I don't agree with the reaction. They were beautiful. They were honest. They were earnest. They were sincere. They were beautifully in love with each other. They're a wonderful couple, I've known them personally. Now they have a gorgeous daughter. Respect their love story, don't judge it. That's all I have to say.'
During their appearance on the show, Deepika said that there was no 'real commitment' between them and that they were 'technically allowed' to see other people until Ranveer proposed. She said, 'I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said, 'I just don't want to be attached, don't want to be committed.' And I had fun. And then he comes along, so I didn't 'commit commit', until he proposed to me. There was no 'commitment' as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other.'
Deepika and Ranveer tied the knot in a lavish but private ceremony in Italy's Lake Como in 2019. They welcomed their first child, daughter Dua, last year.

Prisha Dhatwalia, who is currently making waves with her debut television show Meri Bhavya Life, is winning hearts with her natural performance and endearing presence on screen. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While her portrayal is receiving praise, what's also shaping her journey in a beautiful way is the strong camaraderie she shares with her co-stars—especially with actor . Opening up about her connection with the cast, Prisha shared, 'I bond with everyone very naturally, to be honest—touch wood. Whether it's my onscreen family or Rishank, who is my co-actor Karan Vohra, I gel with him very naturally.' Although there's an age gap between them, Prisha shared that the bond she has with Karan is truly special. 'I don't even know where it comes from, especially considering we're not from the same age group, but still, there's something very special in the connection. I see a good friend and strong support system in him,' she added. Karan, according to Prisha, has become something of a mentor and guide. 'There are times when I sit with him during our breaks, and we talk about so many things. He shares a lot about the industry, how things work, and how to handle different situations on set. He's just amazing.' While Karan may be a pillar of support, Prisha's warmth extends to the rest of the cast too. 'I also bond really well with my on-screen mother, father, sister, and, of course, Hiten Sir. These are the people I mostly spend time with on set, and I always feel very charged up and positive when I'm around them.' Still, she admits that her deepest connection is with Karan due to the amount of screen time they share. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'So honestly, I can't name just one person. But since Karan is my co-actor and someone I spend a lot of screen time with, I feel I can really rely on him. He fits in perfectly, and we share a great comfort level. So please don't give me a diplomatic tag (haha), but it's true that I genuinely have a very good relationship with most of my co-actors. They are all such good energy-givers, and I love them all equally,' she laughed. For Prisha, these relationships are more than just off-screen camaraderie—they deeply influence her performance. 'My bond with everyone on set has grown stronger over time, especially because of the kind of response they gave to my performance and the valuable inputs they shared. It really helped me tap into my character better,' she reflected. One of the most impactful experiences for her has been performing with senior actor Iqbal Khan, who plays her father in the show. 'Whenever I do my scenes with Iqbal Sir, it feels so real. He's such a natural actor that it honestly feels like I'm talking to my real father. That kind of energy and passion from a co-actor makes all the difference.' As a debutante, Prisha approaches her work with humility and curiosity. 'Since this is my debut show, I'm here mainly to absorb and learn as much as I can. I'm like that little kid who would sit next to a senior actor just to listen to them talk and learn from their experience. Be it Kruttika Ma'am, Hiten Tejwani Sir, or Disha Ma'am — I enjoy learning from them all.' Summing up her experience so far, she said, 'I have a lot of respect for each and every person working around me, both as artists and individuals. I keep learning from them every day, and I always try to incorporate those learnings into my work.' With her grounded mindset and emotional intelligence, Prisha Dhatwalia is not just embracing fame—she's building a career rooted in connection, gratitude, and passion.

Amid ongoing debate about working women, Padmini Kolhapure reflects on challenges she faced post motherhood

Veteran actress opened up about her experiences as a working mother in the entertainment industry and how much the environment has evolved since her early days. Speaking to IANS, acknowledged that the times have certainly changed, making it easier and more supportive for women juggling motherhood and their careers today. She pointed out how modern film sets now offer comforts that were unimaginable before, such as vans, proper shelter from weather, and mobile restrooms-amenities that make a significant difference for actresses on set. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 'Vidhaata' actress recalled how back in her day, conditions were tougher. She reminisced about shooting during rain often meant hastily seeking cover under a tree or an umbrella, highlighting the lack of proper facilities for women balancing motherhood with demanding shooting schedules. The veteran actress shared, "No doubt, it is definitely more conducive now for women because, you know, you have the comforts of a vanity van. And, you know, there are proper facilities-like, in those days, if it rained during shootings, one would run under a tree or a big umbrella. Now, you have tents and all those comforts, which are really important. I mean, there are vans with toilets, and back then it was different. Right? So, yeah, there is a lot that has improved, but a lot still needs to be done." Director Jabs Deepika Padukone for 'Taking Motherhood Seriously' Amidst Dua's Arrival She added, "Being a SINTA Senior Vice President, we have also met with the Labour Minister. And we've kind of told him about the challenges the industry, the women, the actors, and the members face. And they, you know, they're looking into it so positively. We met the Labour Minister, and he was so patient. There are a lot of things they didn't know, really - you know, the challenges actors are facing. That era was different. This era is different. You know, one has to evolve, one has to go with the trends. Technology has advanced so much." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Padmini Kolhapure also touched on the rapid advancement of technology in filmmaking, contrasting the past with the present. While earlier, a cameraman's shot was the final take, today's digital technology allows directors and cinematographers to review footage instantly on monitors and make changes in post-production, offering greater creative flexibility. Padmini touched upon the challenges working mothers face in the industry amid the ongoing feud between and director . The tension reportedly arose after Deepika was removed from his film "Spirit," following claims that she was deemed 'unprofessional' for insisting on an eight-hour workday and specific conditions, reflecting her responsibilities as a new mother. Reports suggest that Deepika's request to limit her daily shooting hours was not well received by the filmmaker, highlighting the ongoing struggle for better accommodations for working mothers in cinema.

Pankaj Tripathi shares his take on reasonable work hours amid Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga Spirit row

After names like Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Mani Ratnam, sharing their take on work-life balance in the film industry, Pankaj Tripathi seems to be joining the ranks in context of the debate the Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga row over film Spirit seems to have fired up. For starter, the Prabhas led film was set to star Deepika in the lead. However, the actor faced quite the voluntary but unceremonious exit from the project, within days of starting work Reports suggested that Deepika's demands included a fat ₹20 crore fee, a refusal to mouth dialogues in Telugu and 8-hour work days. The last bit is where the bone of contention lies. During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Pankaj for one, affirmed how he is a firm believer in drawing one's boundaries and relaying the 'no', albeit politely. Recalling his own early days when work would end up keeping him on set between 16 to 18 hours, he shared, "Kaam mein khiche jaa raha hai.16 ghanta-18 ghanta ho gaya main laga hua hu. Main bol bhi raha hu, actor jaa chuka hai. Labour ruka hua hai. (The work hours are getting stretched. I am working 16–18 hours straight. I'm even saying, the actor has left, there's a labourer here now instead)". So what's his route of resolution? Communicating the problem, and putting one's foot down. He added, "Phir laga nahi, abhi toh aap vinamrata purvak bol dijiye ki 'Nahi, itna hi hoga. Humne commit ye kiya tha, commitment humari poori ho gayi. Ab dhanyavaad. Jo bacha hai, kal karenge.' ( At this point, you should just politely say, 'No, this is all that can be done. This is what we committed to, and we've fulfilled that commitment. Thank you. Whatever is left, we'll do tomorrow')". Coming back to the Deepika-Vanga row, following rumours of Deepika's exit, the move was made certain with Triptii Dimri being announced as the female lead overnight, leaving no scope for resolution. Not just this, a barely-veiled and almost direct attack at Deepika via Sandeep on his socials furthered soured the situation — whose side are you on?
