UIDAI deactivates Aadhaar of 1.2 crore deceased people
NEW DELHI: The Unique Identity Authority of India has so far deactivated nearly 1.2 crore Aadhaar of deceased persons to prevent misuse of the 12-digit identity proof.
The UIDAI has done this by sourcing records of nearly 1.6 crore deaths from the Civil Registration System (CRS) of 24 states and UTs through the Registrar General of India."Following
thorough validation, approximately 1.17 crore Aadhaar numbers have been deactivated.
A similar exercise is ongoing in non-CRS states/UTs, with 6.7 lakh death records received and deactivation in progress," an official release said.
It added that UIDAI has started a new service 'Reporting of Death of a Family Member' on the myAadhaar portal for the 24 CRS states and UTs. "The family member, after authenticating himself/ herself, is required to provide Aadhaar number and death registration number along with other demographic details of the deceased person on the portal.
After due process of validation of the information submitted by the family member, further action is taken for the deactivation, or otherwise, of the Aadhaar number of the deceased person," the statement said.
UIDAI is also exploring the possibility of sourcing death records from banks and other Aadhaar ecosystem entities maintaining such information.
It is taking the support of state governments in identifying deceased Aadhaar number holders. As a pilot, demographic details of Aadhaar number holders aged over 100 years are being shared with state governments to verify whether the Aadhaar number holder is alive. Upon receipt of such verification report, necessary validation will be carried out before deactivating such Aadhaar number, electronics and IT ministry said.

Without the knowledge of its owner, the property was sold to Chandrasenan, 62, of Sasthamangalam, who is also the father-in-law of Thampi. Chandrasenan told police that Thampi had some tax-related issues, and due to this, he directed the property to be registered in his name. After the fraud came to light, police believed that the land was snatched by Manikantan by forging documents and sold to Chandrasenan. However, Manikantan told police that it was as per the direction of Thampi that the documents were forged, as the landowner was not willing to sell it to Thampi, despite him approaching them several times. "Manikantan's version is not fully trustworthy, as there is a possibility that Thampi was cheated by Manikantan," said police. The owner of the property, Dora Asariya Crips, is settled in the US and Manikantan forged all the documents of the property and Crips' Aadhaar card. Manikantan got the help of a woman named Vasantha, 76, of Karakulam, who posed as Crips and registered the land in the name of Merin, 27, of Punalur. Merin posed as the stepdaughter of Crips at the sub-registrar office. Later, Merin sold the property to Chandrasenan. "We collected bank details of the payment Thampi made to Manikantan. He later gave Rs 10 lakh to Merin and Rs 5 lakh to Vasantha," said police.

The 35 cm idol was cemented to the floor but vanished overnight. Fijivillage reported that police said the temple's 68-year-old assistant treasurer discovered the theft Wednesday morning and lodged a report. Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha President, Dhirendra Nand, described the theft as 'deeply hurtful' and confirmed the organisation will conduct its own internal investigation alongside police inquiries. He told the news outlet that CCTV cameras are installed in the temple and urged authorities to examine the footage. 'We have confidence in the law and order of this country and in the Police Force. Noida Cab Driver Who Held Family 'Hostage' Arrested; Cops Find 2 Aadhaar Cards

Meanwhile, the incident dates back to Thursday afternoon, when one Sanjay Mohan booked a cab for Delhi's Connaught Place from his home in Greater Noida. Mohan, along with his wife and four-year-old daughter, had just begun their cab ride when the situation took a terrifying turn. As the vehicle approached Parthala Bridge in Noida, the police signalled the driver to pull over. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated abruptly, breaking through barricades, according to police reports. Shocked and alarmed by the sudden move, the couple pleaded with the driver to stop and let them out. But their requests were ignored as he continued to drive recklessly for several kilometres, attempting to evade a PCR van in pursuit, officials said. The couple kept pleading, but the driver refused to stop. After managing to outrun the police, he briefly halted the vehicle for just a few seconds at TP Nagar. The moment the family stepped out, he sped away, police said.
