Knicks will seek permission to speak with Mavs' Jason Kidd as coaching search kicks into high gear: reports

The New York Knicks' head coaching search appears to be in full swing. After making the surprising decision to part ways with Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks are now eyeing Jason Kidd as a potential candidate to replace the franchise's fourth-winningest coach. According to ESPN, the Knicks are actively vetting Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. Since Kidd is under contract with the Mavs, the Knicks would have to submit a formal request to speak to the Dallas coach. The Knicks have yet to request permission to interview Kidd, sources told ESPN. Exploring a trade could also be a route the Knicks could take. But the Knicks did exhaust a considerable amount of draft capital to acquire forward Mikal Bridges. Kidd reportedly interviewed with the Knicks in 2020, but Thibodeau got the job. Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference finals berth since 2000. The Indiana Pacers eliminated New York in six games. Kidd spent the final season of his lengthy NBA career with the Knicks. Prior to taking the Mavs' head coaching job, Kidd had coaching stints with the Nets and the Bucks. He also served as an assistant coach for the Lakers from 2019-21. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Bryce Harper lands on injured list in brutal Phillies blow

Philly's best has taken a hit. The Phillies placed Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list due to his ailing right wrist before Saturday's game against the Pirates. This came after the two-time National League MVP sat out of the Phillies' 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh on Friday night. Advertisement In a corresponding move, the team called up Otto Kemp, who is their No. 24 prospect on MLB Pipeline, from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. With Harper, the team's primary first baseman, out, the Phillies are expected to play third baseman Alec Bohm at first. 3 Bryce Harper has been placed on the 10-day injury list on Saturday. AP On May 27, Harper was drilled in the right elbow on a pitch from Braves starter Spencer Strider — missing five games — and has also been dealing with a sore wrist. This wrist issue isn't exactly new, as the eight-time All-Star also was dealing with right wrist pain for a lot of last year and played through it. The Phillies are hopeful that any long-term damage can be prevented with the extra rest. Advertisement This season, Harper is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. The Phillies have dropped seven of their last eight games, losing a two-game lead in the NL East to the Mets, who now hold a 2 1/2 game edge in the division entering Saturday's play. Kemp, who has yet to play in the majors, has hit .317 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs in 57 games in Triple-A. 3 Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies reacts to striking out against the Toronto Blue Jays during the sixth inning in their MLB game at the Rogers Centre on June 4, 2025.
