KOTA KINABALU: The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir has handed her mobile phone to police for forensic analysis, according to the family's lawyer Hamid Ismail. The phone, containing voice recordings between Zara and her mother, was submitted at the Karamunsing police station on Thursday for examination in Cheras.
Advertisement Hamid explained the delay was due to the mother needing rest after a four-hour police interview in Sipitang the previous day. He urged the public to refrain from speculation, saying the grieving mother deserves support and prayers. She had been rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar at about 4 am on July 16. In a significant development, her body was exhumed late last night and transported to Kota Kinabalu. MCMC records statement over false content in Zara Qairina's case

In a statement, MCMC said the person was summoned to the Cheras police headquarters yesterday, where a mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized to assist investigations. Advertisement 'The content is believed to contain false information touching on 3R issues (race, religion and royalty), which could cause public confusion and disrupt the authorities' investigation,' the statement read. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. MCMC also urged the public to allow the investigation process to run its course and to be wary of speculative content that could mislead the public. 'The spread of unverified information not only risks hurting the feelings of the victim's family but also breaches ethical values and may interfere with the course of justice,' the commission said. Imam says Zara's body was intact

The imam, who was one of the grave diggers, was interviewed by a TikToker and described what he witnessed during the exhumation on Saturday evening.
