Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Oil, Gas & Energy Conference and Exhibition (SOGCE) returns for its 12th edition on July 3–4 2025 at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). Organised by Midas Events Management, SOGCE 2025 continues its legacy as the State's premier oil, gas, and energy platform, uniting stakeholders to collaborate, share insights and explore sustainable energy opportunities. Its collaboration partners are Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC), Society of Petroleum Engineers – KL Section and Semarak Training. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is scheduled to officiate SOGCE 2025, underscoring the event's strategic importance to the State's economic and energy development. SOGCE plays a vital role in advancing Sabah's position as a strategic hub for the oil, gas and energy industry in Malaysia. Kinabatangan to benefit from clear government roadmap, says CM

He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government had laid out a clear development roadmap for the state, including Kinabatangan, through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) direction. The plan covers all aspects of growth, from strengthening the economy and education to improving community wellbeing, supported by achievements in industry, tourism and agriculture. Hajiji highlighted various state initiatives, including monthly aid of RM300 for a year to more than 10,000 low-income residents, and an increase in Rumah Mesra SMJ units to 40 for each state constituency, including Lamag and Sukau. He said the state government has also distributed 100 dialysis machines to government hospitals and clinics to provide free treatment for kidney patients. On the Seri Milian New Town project in Kota Kinabatangan, Hajiji said it would be a catalyst for change expected to transform the district over the next five to 10 years. Selangor disburses RM864,000 in second phase of rental aid for Putra Heights fire victims
SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The Selangor government has disbursed RM864,000 in the second phase of temporary rental assistance to 144 households affected by last year's gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya. State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the payments, covering July to September 2025, were credited on Aug 6 through the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS). He said recipient selection followed a data review conducted by the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee, Victim Data Subcommittee and local community representatives. 'The list was updated based on factors such as homes already repaired, former tenants who have relocated or those no longer needing assistance,' he said in a statement. Borhan added that the aid aims to ease the burden on affected families as they navigate relocation or home repairs, and urged remaining eligible victims to claim their assistance at the Petaling District and Land Office for further verification. In the first phase of the programme, covering April to June, a total of RM2.19 million was disbursed to 365 households. — Bernama

Federal government keeps Petronas, but states to see bigger share through new deals, says Azalina
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — The ownership of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) remains with the federal government, although steps were taken to enhance the participation of states through strategic collaboration platforms, joint project implementation, and involvement in the value chain, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Azalina said the federal government's approach is aligned with an inclusive federal structure and ensures sustained benefits for all parties. The minister said that the federal government is currently the sole owner of Petronas, which is incorporated under the Companies Act 1965 as the national oil and gas company. 'The Petroleum Development Act 1974 (Act 144) entrusts Petronas with ownership of petroleum, along with the exclusive rights, powers, freedoms, and privileges to explore, manage, and develop the country's petroleum resources, whether onshore, offshore, or in Malaysian waters,' she said in a response posted on the Parliament's website today. Azalina was responding to Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (GRS-Keningau), who asked whether the government could consider distributing 50 per cent shares in Petronas to oil- and gas-producing territories and states, namely Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu, and Kelantan. According to Jeffrey, the distribution is a fundamental step to strengthen the Malaysian Federation moving forward, while easing politicisation and dissatisfaction over oil and gas rights. Azalina said that although the ownership of Petronas is under the federal government, the current approach allows producing states to receive direct benefits from the petroleum industry through cash payments and various forms of commercial cooperation. 'At the same time, overall revenues from the sector are fairly distributed across the country in line with national development needs,' she added. — Bernama
