SDAIA Facilitates Departure of Iranian Pilgrims via Jadidat Arar Tech

Leaders22-06-2025
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has deployed advanced technologies and smart systems—coordinating with relevant authorities—to facilitate the departure of Iranian pilgrims through the Jadidat Arar border crossing toward Iran.
This initiative follows the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the recommendation of His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to ensure the provision of all necessary services and support for Iranian pilgrims until they return safely to their families.
SDAIA field teams began operations before and during the pilgrims' arrival by executing a comprehensive technical plan. This included testing both primary and backup systems and ensuring the readiness of communication networks to guarantee continuous service.
Routine preventive maintenance was carried out, and workstations were equipped with cutting-edge technologies and digital infrastructure. These efforts, in close coordination with government agencies, enabled streamlined procedures to maximize operational efficiency and enhance the pilgrims' experience.
SDAIA remains committed to empowering government entities with data- and AI-driven solutions to serve pilgrims and Umrah performers. Through the use of digital platforms, emerging technologies, and skilled personnel, SDAIA continues to support Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by boosting government service performance and accelerating procedural efficiency.

SDAIA, Oxford University Partner on AI Engineering Camp to Empower Saudi Graduates

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has launched a new artificial intelligence application engineering camp in collaboration with Oxford University. The initiative aims to train Saudi and international graduates, equipping them with advanced skills in the rapidly evolving field of AI. The intensive eight-week program is open to bachelor's and master's degree holders in artificial intelligence, computer science, and related disciplines. Overseen by international experts, the curriculum will cover advanced AI sciences, computer vision, deep learning, and generative models, SPA reported. Participants will gain hands-on experience in designing and developing AI models using Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, and will work on advanced projects in natural language processing and computer vision. A key focus of the camp is on practical application. Graduates will learn to use industry-standard tools like YOLO and Hugging Face to create and deploy real-world technical solutions. The program adopts a flexible two-phase educational model, beginning with distance learning before transitioning to an in-person phase at Oxford University. This camp forms part of SDAIA's commitment to developing national capabilities and fostering partnerships with leading global universities. By equipping Saudi talent with modern AI tools and technologies, the program supports the Kingdom's digital transformation goals and the targets of Saudi Vision 2030.

New idle land regulations come into effect

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing approved and enacted the executive regulations for white land fees, setting the levy at up to 10% of the land's value, in line with urban development priorities. The rules apply to all vacant land within approved urban boundaries, with the minister determining eligible land uses for each city while they cover individual plots of 5,000 square meters or more, or combined holdings of that size within a single city. Minister Majed Al-Hogail said the framework targets improved market efficiency, faster urban development, higher supply, balanced demand, and greater homeownership opportunities for citizens.

Saudi Arabia's Video Game Market Booms with over 2.4 Million Consoles Imported in Two Years

Saudi Arabia's video game sector has seen remarkable growth in the past two years, with imports of video game consoles reaching over 2.4 million units in 2024 and 2025, according to data from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. In 2024, over 1.7 million units were imported, while 684,489 units have been imported so far in 2025. China, Japan, and the United States were the top suppliers, SPA reported. The Saudi Internet Report 2024 from the Communications, Space and Technology Commission highlighted significant improvements in the digital infrastructure, including an 88% improvement in response time for popular video games. The report also detailed usage trends, showing that smart devices are the most used platform (24.2% of users), followed closely by PlayStation (23.8%). PlayStation is the dominant platform for the 10-19 age group, while smart devices are preferred by older demographics. Whiteout Survival, Roblox, and Subway Surfers were the most downloaded mobile games. The Esports World Cup, which is being held in Riyadh from July 7 to August 24, reinforces the Kingdom's growing role as a global gaming hub. The event features over 2,000 players from more than 100 countries competing for prizes exceeding $70 million, solidifying Saudi Arabia's position in the global gaming and esports scene.
