Vince McMahon gets into nasty Connecticut car crash

Yahoo2 days ago
Former WWE boss Vince McMahon was involved in a rough car crash in Connecticut last week, according to multiple reports.
McMahon, 79, was traveling near Westport on Thursday morning when his 2024 Bentley slammed into a 2023 BMW 430 before hitting a median guardrail, TMZ reported.
A third vehicle, a Ford Fusion, driving in the other direction, was then struck by debris from the crash with McMahon.
Barbara Doran claimed in a Facebook post that her BMW was struck by McMahon as she was on her way to catch the ferry to Martha's Vineyard
The outlet reported that there were no major injuries in the wreck but McMahon was cited for reckless driving — a misdemeanor.
Photos of the crash showed fairly extensive damage to the front of McMahon's Bentley, which reportedly had its airbag deployed in the incident.
The crash came on the same day that wrestling legend Hulk Hogan died at 71.
Hours after the reported crash, McMahon took to social media to mourn the loss of Hogan.
'The world lost a treasure today,' wrote McMahon. 'Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.
'His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled — and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved.
'He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, 'Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers.' Today, we pray for him.'
TMZ reported that McMahon is slated to appear in court in August.

Ron DeSantis declares ‘Hulk Hogan Day' in Florida with flags flown at half-staff

The Hulkster is getting his day in the sunshine. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that he was declaring Friday 'Hulk Hogan Day' across the state in honor of the WWE megastar, who died at the age of 71 on July 24 at his home in Clearwater, Fla. DeSantis also said that the U.S. and Florida flags would be put at half-staff Friday at the state capitol and in Pinellas County, which includes Clearwater, where Hogan lived for the final 13 years of his life. His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the 'Hulkster' was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today,' DeSantis wrote in a statement. 'He was a true Floridian through and through.' 'Rest in peace, brother,' the governor added on X. Hogan died of a heart attack, according to Pinellas County Forensic Science Center records obtained by Page Six on Thursday. In a speech on July 24, DeSantis said he grew up viewing Hogan as a 'superhero.' 'The fact that he was from the Tampa Bay area when I'm growing up there, it was like 'Oh my gosh,'' DeSantis said. 'I was really sad to see that [he died], and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and people throughout this region of Florida.'

This Coen Brothers comedy is an underrated Netflix movie to watch this weekend (August 1-3)

Opening Netflix in 2025 is a very different experience than it was 10 years ago. The movie selection is tilted much more toward movies that Netflix produced, and as a result, you're often served up a lot of pretty trashy titles. Don't get me wrong, Netflix has made some great original movies, but it's also made plenty of terrible ones. That's why picking what you want to watch from the service can be something of a challenge. This week, we've pulled together three underrated titles that are all worth your time for very different reasons: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Burn After Reading (2008) One of the Coen brothers' less celebrated films, in part because it came in the immediate wake of No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading tells the farcical story of two gym employees who try to blackmail a former CIA analyst after they stumble upon classified information. Along the way, we see just how stupid many of the people who work in the government are and how their bumbling lives intersect with occasionally deadly consequences. Burn After Reading is deeply funny, but it's also a movie about the people who run our country and how fundamentally pathetic most of them are. You can watch Burn After Reading on Netflix. American Graffiti (1973) A movie made in 1973 that looks backward to an even earlier time, American Graffiti is one of the definitive teen movies, even if it's not George Lucas' crowning achievement. The film follows a group of friends who all have different adventures on the last night of summer vacation before they go off to school or to find gainful employment. The movie itself is mostly lighthearted, but it's also a wistful look at a particular moment in life when things don't feel totally real yet, and you can do anything you want. You can watch American Graffiti on Netflix. The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) Aaron Sorkin's directorial career has been fascinating and strange, but there's a lot to like in The Trial of the Chicago 7. Based on true events, the film follows the trial of seven defendants who were a part of countercultural protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The movie's at its best when it's exploring the tension between the various groups within this trial. The trial reminds us how close these events truly are to the present day. Although the writing is definitely flowery in an Aaron Sorkin way, the movie is compelling throughout, in part because courtroom dramas are such a sturdy formula. You can watch The Trial of the Chicago 7 on Netflix.
