Mariners' Julio Rodriguez Breaks Silence After Unexpected Decision
Center fielder Julio Rodriguez is in his fourth major-league season after making his Seattle Mariners debut in 2022.

Rodriguez had an electric rookie season, taking home the American League Rookie of the Year award, finishing seventh in AL MVP voting, making his first All-Star Game and winning his first Silver Slugger.
He played a massive role in ending the Mariners' 21-year playoff drought when they clinched a wild-card spot in late September 2022.
Rodriguez followed that up with another excellent season in 2024, solidifying his status as one of the game's best outfielders by earning another Silver Slugger, his second All-Star appearance and finishing fourth in AL MVP voting.

In 2025, Rodriguez earned his third All-Star selection—but on Friday, MLB announced that the 24-year-old would not participate in the event.

On a recent post on X, Rodriguez wrote, 'As much as I'd love to be out there, I want to take this time to take care of my body and fully prepare for the second half of the season. It's definitely tough to miss out on the All-Star experience, but I'll be cheering on all the guys and wishing them and their families an amazing week.'
Through 92 games this year, Rodriguez has been productive but sits at the lowest offensive marks of his career with a .244 batting average and a .687 OPS. He's totaled 11 home runs, 15 stolen bases and 44 RBIs.
The Mariners are currently one game back of the third wild-card spot in the American League, so Rodriguez getting extra time to work on being fully healthy and returning to peak form could be a wise decision.

Caitlin Clark misses another game at Barclays due to groin injury
We've got you covered on the Liberty beat Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Madeline Kenney about all things Liberty and WNBA. tRY IT NOW Liberty fans will need to hope for a potential playoff matchup to see Caitlin Clark play in Brooklyn this year. The Fever megastar missed Tuesday's 98-84 Liberty victory at Barclays Center with a right groin injury, which she suffered in a win over the Sun on July 15. Advertisement The Liberty hosted the Fever just last week in their last game before the All-Star break, but Clark sat out with the injury, making it twice in a week the Barclays Center crowd missed the league's top attraction. The Liberty did face a healthy Clark and the Fever twice earlier in the season — which they split — but both games were in Indiana. Fever coach Stephanie White does not yet have a timetable for Clark's return. Advertisement Caitlin Clark, celebrating after a teammate's 3-pointer, did not play in the Fever's 98-84 loss to the Liberty because of a right groin injury. Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Clark met with doctors Monday and Tuesday for additional opinions on the injury. The injury forced Clark to pull out of the All-Star Game and 3-point contest. Clark's second season in the league has been marred by injuries. Advertisement Caitlin Clark argues a call from the bench during the Fever's loss to the Liberty. Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Including Tuesday's game, she has played in just 13 of the Fever's 24 games this season. The Liberty were set to be at full strength for the first time all season, but Nyara Sabally was downgraded to out for Tuesday's game. Sabrina Ionescu was one of the players who wore a shirt with the message 'Pay us what you owe us' during warmups ahead of the All-Star Game, amid CBA negotiations between the league and players. She explained the rationale behind the decision Tuesday. 'That's what we're in the room talking about, is understanding what's important to not only the top players, but the middle players, the new players coming in,' Ionescu said. 'It's figuring out where we can meet in the middle and trying to accommodate everyone. And that's tough in a negotiation, when it's not just one player demanding what they want but trying to understand how it impacts the rest of the league and the future of our league. That's something we're really talking about, trying to put our best minds together and figuring out what that looks like on revenue share, on valuation on new teams coming in, how that impacts [us].'

Royce Lewis, Christian Vazquez each drive in 3 runs as Twins beat Dodgers 10-7
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Royce Lewis and Christian Vazquez each drove in three runs as the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7 on Tuesday night. Lewis, a native of nearby Orange County, Calif., had a runs-scoring fielder's choice in the second inning, a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, and a run-scoring grounder in the seventh that brought in two more runs on pitcher Edgardo Henriquez's throwing error. Andy Pages hit a three-run home run and Shohei Ohtani had a two-run shot for the Dodgers, who managed to end a six-game home losing streak Monday but have now dropped 11 of their past 14 overall since July 4. It is the first time Ohtani has hit a home run in four consecutive games. Dodgers All-Star right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up three runs — one earned — and five hits in five innings. Ben Casparius (7-4) was charged with three runs without recording an out in the sixth. The Twins took a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning with their second of three three-run innings as Lewis walked with the bases loaded, Harrison Bader had an RBI ground out and Vazquez delivered a run-scoring single. Hyeseong Kim brought the Dodgers to 6-5 with a two-run single in the sixth. The Twins responded with a three-run seventh when Lewis' comebacker scored Carlos Correa then brought in Ty France and Matt Walner when Henriquez threw past first base and into right field. France, from nearby West Covina, had an RBI double in the ninth. Key moment One night after losing left-handed reliever Tanner Scott to an elbow injury, the Dodgers saw Casparius depart with a right calf cramp immediately after he allowed Lewis' bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Casparius and Will Klein combined for six walks. Key stat The Twins' victory was only their third against the Dodgers since 2017, leaving them 3-12 against Los Angeles in the nine-year stretch. They are 3-13 all-time at Dodger Stadium, including postseason games. ___
