Scandal confirmed as major Coronation Street legend cheats on husband

Metro21-07-2025
The Coronation Street air has been seething with unresolved sexual tension ever since Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) arrived in Weatherfield and set eyes on his sister-in-law Abi Webster (Sally Carman). And it looks like they're finally about to give in to their feelings in episodes airing soon.
When Abi realised that the handsome man she'd been flirting with in Freshco's car park was actually Kevin (Michael Le Vell)'s brother, it obviously came as a shock.
Over the months as they've got to know each other, the attraction between them hasn't died down, although Abi has insisted that it's a love that can never be, because of her loving Kevin and him having cancer.
Recently Kevin has discovered two things. One is that his wife and his brother seem to either be having an affair or are on the verge of it.
The other is that he doesn't have cancer any more as his treatment has been successful. However, he's pretending that he still does have cancer in the hope that this will make Abi think twice about leaving him – and so far that's working.
It's a complex situation, and Carl is dealing with complexities of his own as he owes a lot of money and has been using Kev's garage as a venue for doing up stolen cars as a side-hustle to try and make some money.
These situations all come together in an upcoming episode when Kevin overhears Carl talking to his accomplice Fiona about a flash car he's working on and how, if she steals it, they can split the profit.
Kevin attempts to pursue Fiona as she drives off in the car and soon collapses, unwell.
Glenda (Jodie Prenger) takes him to the hospital and soon Carl turns up. Kevin reveals that he knows that Carl has been up to something dodgy with Fiona. Carl turns the tables by telling his brother that he's been chatting to the medical staff and he knows that Kevin is now cancer-free.
When Abi hears what Carl has been up to she has a go at him for the trouble he's caused. He resists the urge to tell her that Kevin is deceiving her about still having cancer.
She does find out, however – from Tyrone (Alan Halsall). She's worrying about how to tell Jack (Kyran Bowes) that Kevin's cancer hasn't responded to treatment and Tyrone knows he can't let her do that and breaks it to her that Kevin has been lying about his health since receiving the all-clear.

Abi's obviously furious and upset and confronts Kevin. He explains that he only told the lie to try and stop her from leaving him and going off with Carl, but Abi refuses to listen to his excuses and heads out. More Trending

‘We lost £250,000 minutes into new ITV show – but we can't complain'

Warning: spoilers ahead for the first episode of The Fortune Hotel series 2. It's never ideal being the first contestants to be eliminated on a primetime gameshow. However, that's the reality that friends and cleaning business partners Chelsey and Briony faced when they embarked on the adventure of competing in ITV's The Fortune Hotel series 2. The second season of the show, which is hosted by Stephen Mangan, launched tonight, with 11 pairs making their way to a hotel in the Caribbean with the aim of checking in and getting their hands on a briefcase containing a £250,000 fortune. Sadly, Chelsey and Briony were eliminated before they even had the chance to enter the hotel, as other players were quicker to figure out a cryptic crossword that informed them where they needed to go. Thankfully, they're still in good spirits about the experience. 'It weren't all bad. We can't really complain. We had an all-inclusive holiday in an absolutely stunning place that not many people would see with your best friend. We got to do things on the island,' Chelsey, who was 34 at the time of filming, tells Metro. 'It was surreal, once in a lifetime.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Briony, who was 33 at the time of filming, adds: 'We went river tubing. Then we went visiting waterfalls, and the sea… The experience looking back on it was fantastic.' At the start of episode one, the competing pairs have to fill out a crossword that, when solved, tells them that they need to head to the reception desk of the hotel. The first batch of couples who reach the correct answer and get to the hotel are safe to scheme another day – but the others are all at risk of being eliminated right away. They each choose a briefcase to open, one of which contains the devastating 'early checkout card'. Briony and Chelsey decided to select briefcase number two, as it's both their favourite number. Unfortunately, they had selected the poisoned chalice. 'Unfortunately, our lucky number just wasn't lucky,' Briony quips. Even though the friends were in the show for a very short amount of time, they still left a big impression with their energetic personalities, racing towards Stephen on the beach after they arrived by boat. Host Stephen Mangan gives Metro the lowdown on what to expect in The Fortune Hotel series two… which he promises will have even more shocks than before. 'It was exciting the first time around because it was a show that had never been done before,' Stephen tells us about the first series. 'Sometimes these shows are formats that they've tried in other countries and have been a hit, so they know how they work. But we were inventing a brand new game, which is exciting and terrifying at the same time.' So what's in store for the second outing? 'More surprises, more challenges, more epic things happening,' he promises. The host adds that if he were a player on the game, he'd be more 'ruthless' than fans might expect. To read more from our interview, click here. Before competing in the new series, Briony had already seen the first, and 'absolutely loved it'. Just like many other viewers, she watched the show assuming that it was a pretty straightforward game set in an idyllic paradise – but getting to grips with the show firsthand made both of the women realise how much harder it actually is. More Trending 'When you're in it, and you have got 101 things going on around you, it's so hard. It's a different ballgame completely,' she says, as Chelsey adds: 'It's not what we expected at all, but we loved every minute of it.' The women from Wigan would be up for returning if there was an all-stars edition, especially as they felt as though they didn't really get a chance to show themselves off fully. 'People tell us all the time we're funny,' Chelsey remarks. 'We're such a little act together, we bounce off each other, and we feel like we didn't have the time to really show that. EastEnders' Patrick terrified with anxiety as he's released from hospital

EastEnders icon traumatised following shocking attack in his own home. EastEnders legend Patrick Trueman is left visibly shaken and deeply traumatised this week as he returns home from hospital following a brutal and unexpected attack that has left him riddled with anxiety. Patrick, played by the legendary Rudolph Walker, is clearly traumatised after being attacked in his own home. The once-cheerful, confident cornerstone of Albert Square now struggles to feel safe in the place he's always called home. It all starts when Patrick and Howie place a risky bet behind Yolande's back. The gamble pays off, and they walk away with £6,000, but the victory is short-lived. Yolande is furious when she finds out and calls off their wedding, leaving the household tense. While the family drown their sorrows at The Vic, trouble is quietly brewing at home. Oscar, desperate and foolish, breaks into No.20 to steal the winnings. But when Patrick unexpectedly catches him in the act, Oscar panics. In a split-second decision that would change everything, he shoves Patrick, who falls and hits the ground hard, leaving him unconscious and alone. Oscar, attempting to flee, is stopped in his tracks when Howie returns home to a nightmare. Oscar hides until he decides to make a run for it. Howie spots a figure fleeing, but can't make out who it is. Moments later, Kim and Denise walk in and find Patrick lying motionless on the floor. Panic sets in fast. Yolande and the family then rush to the hospital, where they wait helplessly for news, riddled with guilt and fear. For Yolande, the sight of Patrick fighting for his life is devastating. Their argument over the bet seemed suddenly meaningless as she fears she might lose the man she loves. Howie blames himself, while Kim and Denise are left reeling. More Trending But outside the hospital walls, suspicions were rising. Lauren begins to notice Oscar's strange and sketchy behaviour. When she confronts him, her worst fears are confirmed: Oscar has stolen Patrick's money and must be behind the attack. Patrick is released from the hospital, and with Yolande and Howie by his side, he returns home. But the attack has shaken him and knocked his confidence. 'Most harrowing film ever made' still available to stream as Netflix pulls it

A brutal psychological thriller described as one of the most harrowing films ever made – and which sparked walkouts with its brutal content – has been removed from Netflix. However, it still has a streaming home for viewers in the UK. The award-winning 2018 film The Nightingale was part of the group of titles Netflix removed from its vast UK back catalogue during the fist few days of August, which also included movies from the Final Destination franchise and Shrek trilogy, alongside White House Down. But for those wanting to seek out the film described as 'the most shocking of the year' and hard to watch, it is available on Amazon Prime Video for subscribers free of charge. A disturbing period-set drama, The Nightingale takes place in 1825 and follows young Irish convict Clare (Aisling Franciosi) as she hunts a British officer, played by Sam Claflin, to extract revenge for the unspeakable acts of violence he committed against her and her family. On the way, she enlists the services of Aboriginal tracker Billy (Baykali Ganambarr), who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The intense thriller is directed by Jennifer Kent, who made a name for herself as the writer and director of psychological horror film The Babadook, frequently cited as one of the best horror films in recent years. After premiering at Venice Film Festival, where it clinched the Special Jury Prize, The Nightingale screened as part of the Sydney Film Festival months later, where some cinemagoers revealed they had walked out over its intense and upsetting scenes. *Warning – descriptions of graphic scenes below* Alongside sequences depicting murder, assault and infanticide, there are also three visceral and horrifying rape scenes within the first 20 minutes, which according to local reports prompted protests and shouted criticisms at director Kent – who was sitting in the audience. Kent later defended the scenes, the breathtaking violence of which continues further into the film, as an 'honest and necessary depiction' of a particularly brutal moment in history in Tasmania, where the massacre of Aboriginals by British colonists intensified during the Black War. Critics and viewers also praised Kent for her unflinching take on things, with writer Michael Ouzas describing The Nightingale as 'essential viewing and an Australian classic' and @jesuevalle admitting on X that while he walked out 'to take myself away from that brutal space', he still recognised The Nightingale as 'an important film' and walked back in to finish watching it. We Live Entertainment's critic Scott Menzel called it a 'haunting and unforgettable masterpiece', while awarding The Nightingale 9.5 stars out of 10 and acknowledging its very dark nature. 'I don't think that any review can mentally, physically, or emotionally prepare you for what Kent has brought to life with this film,' he added. Meanwhile Alex Flood for NME branded it 'the most shocking film of the year' and advised that the film was 'not for the faint-hearted', while Little White Lies' Hannah Strong described it as a 'devastating, uncomfortable watch' while suggesting it needed to be 'exactly the film it is, bubbling with completely justified anger and pain'. The Nightingale holds an impressive 87% score from critics on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, while boasting a decent 73% from the smaller pool of audience members sharing their reactions. 'Genuinely one of the most harrowing pieces of cinema I have ever experienced,' shared Dan L, who said that there 'aren't words for how incredible this film is'. More Trending 'I watched this a few months ago and I still think about it all the time. It's one of those movies that really sticks with you,' wrote Laura M, adding: 'This movie made me WEEP.' Meanwhile, Amanda H said she was 'hooked from start to finish', which Hua M agreed with, chiming in: 'Had me completely riveted/shook from start to finish. Incredible performances all around (but particularly by Aisling), and a nightmarish, visceral experience that I will not soon forget.' 'Although some scenes were hard to watch, I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen,' wrote Maria D. The Nightingale is streaming now on Prime Video in the UK. Got a story?
