The Terengganu government today launched the Portal Jodoh Darul Iman (PJDI), an online platform aimed at expediting the matchmaking process among young men and women in the state.

State Welfare, Women's Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman, Maliaman Kassim said PJDI is one of the state government's initiatives to boost the marriage rate among Terengganu residents and, in turn, increase the birth rate in the state, as well as delay the process of Terengganu becoming an ageing state.
"So, with this portal, it encourages our young people to get married legally, and when they get married and have children, it helps delay the ageing process of a state or country.
"For this initial phase, we are targeting 500 participants this year. It is only open to unmarried individuals and to single mothers and fathers who wish to find a partner,' he told reporters after the launch of PJDI.
The PJDI Launch Ceremony was officiated by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at Wisma Darul Iman here today. Maliaman said for now, the portal, which is accessible starting today, is only open to Muslim residents of Terengganu and improvements including the portal interface and candidate criteria will be enhanced over time.
To prevent fraud or misuse of the portal, he said various requirements and identity details, including identity card numbers, must be provided by individuals seeking a match through the portal.
"This means if a participant falsifies their identity, we will detect it and immediately remove them from participation. The process will be handled by the Family Development Foundation and we will verify the personal data submitted,' he said.
He added that participants will state their preferred criteria for a spouse and also provide details about themselves, before the portal's secretariat matches suitable husband or wife candidates accordingly.
He said the first meeting between the pair will be accompanied by the secretariat, including a marriage counsellor, before further steps such as engagement and marriage are handled by the respective families. - BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government has been urged to adopt a cooperative and fiscal federalism model to enhance state development. He cited fiscal models like Equalisation Payment and Fiscal Stabilisation Programme from Germany, Canada, and Australia. 'This commission must include state representatives to uphold genuine federalism,' he added. The Terengganu government also proposed a National Centre of Excellence for rare earth elements (REE). The centre would focus on non-radioactive rare earths (NREE) processing, metallurgy, and zero-waste recovery. Ahmad Samsuri noted the REE industry's expansion into mining, purification, downstream industries, exports, and environmental protection. Terengganu MB calls for federal-state special grant for direct state funding
KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition lawmaker has proposed that the federal government introduce a federal-state special grant under a new act to enable direct funding to states for priority projects. Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN–Kemaman) said this would allow funds to be channelled directly to states without leakages, bureaucratic hurdles, or delays from federal agencies. "Malaysia should consider moving towards a model of cooperative federalism and fiscal federalism, where solving the people's problems is prioritised over constitutional boundaries that were originally designed to prepare the nation for independence in 1957. "This would require a new approach to policy coordination, project implementation, and resource distribution, including a broader allocation of taxation powers so that states can obtain greater revenue compared to the current framework," he said during the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP)in the Dewan Rakyat today. Ahmad Samsuri said state governments have limited powers to collect taxes, especially when compared to the corporate and personal income taxes collected by the federal government. "The 13MP should also serve as an opportunity to enhance the powers of the states, or to implement decentralisation in certain aspects and to a certain extent, so that states can progress more swiftly without being influenced by partisan political sentiments. "This is to ensure that if the political alignment of the state and federal governments differs, it does not affect the state's development or the well-being of its people," he said. He also suggested the establishment of a National Development Transformation Commission to review the effectiveness of past Malaysia Plans, audit the current grant system, and explore new mechanisms such as the Equalisation Payment and Fiscal Stabilisation Programme, which have proven effective in countries such as Germany, Canada, and Australia. On other developments, Ahmad Samsuri proposed the establishment of a National Rare Earth Elements (NREE) Centre of Excellence to accelerate the growth of the industry in Malaysia. "The industry is now headed for expansion in five areas, namely mining, refining and separation, development of midstream and downstream industries, preparation for export products, and environmental protection. "This is a positive move, given that the industry is expected to generate significant returns for both the state and the nation, ultimately benefiting the people as a whole. "I propose the establishment of the centre of excellence focusing on advanced material processing, rare earth element metallurgy, and zero-waste recovery to further drive the industry's growth in our country."

Malaysia, Russia strengthen ties through Sultan Ibrahim's landmark state visit
KAZAN: The state visit of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to Russia, which concluded today, marked a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. This was the fourth state visit conducted by Sultan Ibrahim since ascending the federal throne on Jan 31, 2024, following earlier visits to Singapore, China and Brunei. His Majesty arrived in Moscow on Aug 5 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and became the first Malaysian Head of State to undertake a state visit to the federation since diplomatic ties were established in 1967. During an official meeting with Putin at the Moscow Kremlin, Sultan Ibrahim said Malaysia regards Russia as a trusted and important partner, adding that the visit reflected his sincere wish to strengthen ties and cooperation.
