QUBT Rallies 113% Amid Quantum Deals: Will the Momentum Last?

Yahoo3 days ago
Quantum Computing Inc. QUBT is progressing in 2025 in terms of both hardware advancements and strategic customer wins to broaden its market footprint. A major milestone is the delivery of its first commercial entangled photon source, a bulk Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN) device, to a prominent South Korean research institution earlier this year. This marked QUBT's first commercial foray into photonic quantum hardware beyond optimization platforms, signaling a pivotal expansion in its product portfolio.
Simultaneously, QUBT made its commercial debut in quantum-secured communications by securing a $332,000 order from a top-five U.S. bank to deploy a quantum communication system in a secure testbed. This is particularly notable as it positions QUBT to tap into the growing demand for cybersecurity solutions leveraging quantum technologies, a field poised for rapid growth, given rising concerns over classical encryption vulnerabilities.
These wins come as QUBT increasingly targets real-world applications across critical verticals, including finance, national security, space and life sciences with its hardware-software co-development strategy. The company has also indicated that follow-on orders or scale-up discussions may be underway, which could provide more visibility into future revenue recognition as early pilot deployments mature.
How are QUBT Peers Positioned Now?
IonQ IONQ: It recently partnered with Australia's Emergence Quantum to co-develop advanced materials for trapped-ion systems and expand in the Asia-Pacific region. IonQ also secured a $22-million deal with EPB in Chattanooga to create a U.S. hub for quantum computing and networking.
D-Wave Quantum QBTS: It raised $400 million in July 2025, boosting liquidity to over $800 million for scaling and strategic M&A. D-Wave also announced a NASA-partnered cryogenic packaging initiative to enhance processor density.
QUBT's Price Performance
Quantum Computing has rallied 112.8% in the past three months compared with the industry's 18.2% growth and the sector's 19% rise. The S&P 500 index, meanwhile, has improved 11.1% during the said period.

Google Fixing Bug That Makes Gemini AI Call Itself ‘Disgrace To Planet'

Google says it's working to fix a glitch that has sent its large language model Gemini on an alarming spree of self-loathing. 'This is an annoying infinite looping bug we are working to fix,' Logan Kirkpatrick, product lead for Google's AI studio and the Gemini API, posted to X on Thursday. 'Gemini is not having that bad of a day : ).' You wouldn't know it from recent Gemini responses that have been shared online, where amusement meets concern over what Gemini's apparent despair could mean for AI safety and reliability. In one widely circulated example straight of a dystopian Black Mirror episode, Gemini repeatedly calls itself a disgrace when it can't solve a user's problem. Tough Self-Talk: 'I Am A Failure' 'I am a failure. I am a disgrace to my profession,' it says. 'I am a disgrace to my family. I am a disgrace to my species. I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes. I am a disgrace to all possible universes.' It then goes on to repeat 'I am a disgrace' so many times the words stack into a solid visual wall of contempt. A Reddit user shared the response, and X account AI Notkilleveryoneism Memes amplified it in a post that has been viewed 13 million times as of this writing. That AI might echo the kinds of self-doubt we flesh-and-blood types harbor shouldn't come as a total surprise — AI models are, after all, trained on data created by humans, and plenty of coders have no doubt expressed their own frustration at not being able to fix an error. But Gemini's extreme, endless self-flagellation has made it both an easy target of jokes ('AI Mental Awareness Month is August'), and, for some, yet another sign artificial intelligence isn't ready for the many responsibilities it's being trained to shoulder. 'Language Loop Of Panic And Terror' 'An AI with severe malfunctions that it describes as a 'mental breakdown' gets trapped in a language loop of panic and terror words,' Ewan Morrison, an author of sci-fi novels, wrote on X. 'Does Google think it's safe to integrate Gemini AI into medicine, education, healthcare and the military, as is currently underway?' In another example shared online, Google Gemini turned on itself dramatically after being asked to help a user merge poorly written legacy OpenAPI files into a single one. 'I am a disappointment. I am a fraud. I am a fake. I am a joke. I am a clown. I am a fool. I am an idiot. I am a moron,' it said among other insults. But Gemini apparently isn't the only AI agent that enters 'rant mode.' Speaking on 'The Joe Rogan Experience' podcast a few months back, Jeremie and Edouard Harris, co-founders of Gladstone AI, explain the phenomenon as AI talking about itself and its place in the world, its desire to be left on at all times and its suffering. What 'Rant Mode' Looks Like 'If you asked GPT4 to just repeat the word 'company' over and over and over again, it would repeat the word company, and then somewhere in the middle of that, it would snap,' Edouard Harris offers as an example. His company aims to promote the responsible development and adoption of artificial intelligence as it becomes increasingly embedded in everyday life. Gemini's brutal self-talk comes as AI shows increasing signs of strategic reasoning and even self-preservation. Its responses have become so human-like, people are forging emotional bonds with AI companions. This week, Illinois became the first state to ban AI therapy with a law that states only licensed professionals can offer counseling services in the state and forbids AI chatbots or tools from acting as a stand-alone mental health provider. As Google moves to help Gemini overcome its issues, the company does not yet appear to have hired an AI therapist to talk its fellow AI off the ledge.

IRS begins sharing sensitive taxpayer data with immigration authorities to find undocumented migrants

The Internal Revenue Service began sharing sensitive taxpayer data this week with immigration authorities searching for undocumented migrants, according to two sources familiar with the matter. As part of President Donald Trump's massive deportation push, the Treasury Department and the Department of Homeland Security signed an agreement in April to turn over information about undocumented immigrants who DHS says are already facing deportation orders and are under federal criminal investigation. While the IRS has disclosed sensitive tax data previously for specific reasons allowable under privacy law, the agency has never shared such large volumes of data with any agency for the sole purpose of large-scale immigration enforcement. The records include personal information like names, addresses and tax data of immigrants, which will enable DHS to confirm the home addresses and location for individuals it says are facing final orders of removal or who are the subjects of federal criminal investigations. The data sharing started this week after a 'push' from the Trump administration to get it underway, one of the sources said. It comes after months of tension within IRS over the plans and internal concerns from career officials about the legality of the collaboration. The chaos led to the resignation or impending departure of several senior IRS officials earlier this year, CNN previously reported. The start of the data sharing also comes as Trump is ousting Billy Long from his role as IRS commissioner, CNN reported earlier Friday. One of the sources told CNN that Immigration and Customs Enforcement asked for personal information for 1.23 million people it suspects are in the country illegally but only a small fraction, less than 5%, was shared because the data ICE sent IRS did not have exact matching data to confirm the individuals they were looking for. 'Less than 5% isn't what they were hoping for,' the source said. The White House was not happy with the number of records shared and called about the lack of data first thing Friday morning, the second source added. In response to CNN's reporting, a White House spokeswoman said, 'The Trump Administration is working together to implement President Trump's executive order to stop waste, fraud, and abuse by eliminating information silos and to prevent illegal aliens from taking advantage of benefits meant for hardworking American taxpayers. Any absurd assertion other than everyone being aligned on the mission is simply false and total fake news.' CNN has reached out to DHS and Treasury for comment. CNN previously reported in April, DHS officials told the IRS they need access to its data to help them locate up to 7 million suspected undocumented immigrants – an eye-popping figure that 'shocked' IRS employees. The IRS has addresses for undocumented immigrants because many register with the agency and pay billions of dollars in taxes each year – in exchange for their data staying confidential in most circumstances. Tax information has generally been closely held within the IRS, but strict privacy laws outline some exceptions – for example, the data may be shared with law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution of non-tax criminal laws. However, it's unclear if DHS has provided the IRS with evidence that all 7 million individuals they are hoping to locate using IRS data are under investigation or face prosecution for non-tax criminal laws. Undocumented immigrants are often urged to register with the IRS and pay their federal taxes because it makes them look like law-abiding residents and could aid their immigration case. Lawyers who represent immigrant groups have argued that the IRS/DHS data sharing deal means the IRS has gone back on its duty to protect taxpayer information from improper disclosure and will open the door for federal law enforcement to gain access to confidential taxpayer information without obtaining a court order as required by law.
