OWWA to expand OFW Lounge to more airports following positive response
The OFW Lounge at NAIA Terminal 3 was built by the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) and later turned over to OWWA for management. A separate, smaller OFW Lounge at Terminal 1 was constructed by OWWA, but the NNIC-built facility is more modern and spacious.
Completed in September 2024, the lounge offers comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, charging stations, and power outlets for departing overseas Filipino workers. It also provides complimentary buffet-style meals and has an information desk to assist workers with travel-related inquiries. New hires can also connect with experienced OFWs to gain insights about working abroad.
Beyond expanding the OFW Lounge network, NNIC is deploying eight additional internal shuttle buses operating 24/7 to assist passengers transferring between terminals.
'NAIA is operating well beyond its capacity, and while major infrastructure upgrades are in progress, expanding our shuttle fleet is an invaluable step to ensure accessibility and convenience [of passengers],' said Ramon Ang, president of NNIC and San Miguel Corp. (SMC).
NNIC, led by SMC in partnership with South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC), took over NAIA's management in September 2024. The consortium has committed P170 billion to modernize the airport, with plans to boost passenger capacity from 43 million to 62 million annually and increase aircraft movements from 42 to 48 per hour while ensuring efficient and safe operations.

Thousands of OFWs Join Gov't Caravan in Dubai for Direct Access to Services
Thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from various parts of the United Arab Emirates flocked to the Dubai World Trade Centre for the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan, a large-scale event aimed at bringing Philippine government services closer to Filipino communities abroad. Organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the initiative follows the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to streamline and improve access to public services for OFWs. The event was held in collaboration with various agencies such as OWWA, PSA, Pag-IBIG, SSS, DSWD, PAO, DTI-PTIC, and the Philippine Consulate in Dubai. From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., attendees were able to avail of services including contract verification, legal assistance, housing and financial services, and welfare programs from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO). For many, the caravan served as a one-stop shop to address pressing personal and employment concerns without having to return to the Philippines. The caravan reflects the Philippine government's commitment to making public service accessible, responsive, and relevant to the needs of its modern-day heroes. Beyond paperwork and benefits, it also fostered a sense of connection and reassurance for OFWs working far from home.

DMW orders closure of visa consulting firm over illegal recruitment
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has ordered the immediate shutdown of Visa to America Manila, Inc., a private visa consulting firm operating across the Philippines, over alleged illegal recruitment activities. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Undersecretary Bernard Olalia led the enforcement of the closure order at the company's main office in Ortigas, Pasig City. Simultaneous operations were also conducted in its seven other branches located in Quezon City, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Davao City, Zamboanga City, Santiago City in Isabela, and in Washington D.C., United States. According to the DMW, the firm was engaged in recruitment for overseas employment without the necessary license. It had reportedly deployed over 50 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the United States since 2022, offering teaching and hospitality jobs through J-1 and H-1B visa programs with salary promises ranging from $40,000 to $100,000. 'If they are matching workers with employers in the U.S., that constitutes overseas recruitment, which requires a DMW license. Without it, it is clearly a case of illegal recruitment,' Cacdac said. Visa to America Manila advertises itself as having 31 years of 'immigration expertise,' offering visa processing, consultancy, IT services, legal support, and mock interviews. However, DMW stressed that such activities cannot include recruitment without proper authorization. The agency said it will also look into the status of the OFWs who used the company's services to ensure compliance with labor and immigration laws. The US Embassy in Manila has recently implemented stricter measures in visa applications, including requiring all non-immigrant visa applicants to publicly set their social media accounts for background checks.
