McFly star deletes insensitive post after India plane crash with urgent apology
Tom Fletcher - one quarter of McFly - has issued an apology after he made an insensitive post about planes on his social media account following the devastating Air India crash
McFly star Tom Fletcher has issued an apology following a post he made about planes in the wake of the Air India crash. Hundreds of people lost their lives in a tragic plane crash moments after it took off in Ahmedabad.
The plane had been bound to London Gatwick and was carrying 242 passengers when it crashed into the city just moments after leaving Ahmedabad Airport. Miraculously, one man survived the crash.
On the same day, Tom shared a post about planes to his Instagram story before later deleting it after reading the news. He wrote: "Sorry, I've only just seen the terrible news about the Air India crash."
In a post to apologise on Instagram, he added: "So awful. Had I known earlier, I obviously wouldn't have posted about my flight today. I understand why that much have looked insensitive and have deleted it. Thanks for letting me know. My whole heart goes out to everyone involved in the crash and all their friends & families."
Mark Wright came under fire for his own post about planes and legroom just hours after the crash. He had posted some content from his recent holiday, captioning it: "1 day babe, for now we'll take row 26 with no extra leg room."
However, the post was swiftly deleted and Mark issued an apology. He said: "I apologise for a post I just put up on my page after today's heartbreaking events.
"I have posts from a holiday that are on the scheduled setting, which go out on future days I have set them for which was done last week. It's a horrendous coincidence that today's post was on such a devastating day."
He added: "Once I logged in to my Instagram and realised the post had gone out, I immediately deleted. My heart goes out to everyone who has been effected from today. I'm sorry for this mistake and any offence caused."
Sadly, it has now been confirmed that eight people who weren't on the plane have died following the crash. Ahmedabad authorities told the BBC that four of them were medical students who had been living in one of the buildings where the plane crashed into whilst the other four were relatives of other students living in the hostel at the time.
Both the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the CEO of Air India have visited the crash site to pay tribute to the victims. Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India, said in a statement of his "deep sorrow" at the loss of life.

Witnesses have claimed that a billionaire friend of Prince William told his teammates 'I've swallowed something' before he died after 'ingesting a bee' during polo match. Sunjay Kapur, 53, collapsed in front of horrified teammates during the game at Guards Polo Club in Windsor. Indian-born Mr Kapur was thought to have suffered a fatal heart attack after being stung in the mouth, potentially triggering anaphylactic shock. It was first claimed by witnesses that he out cried 'I've swallowed something' leading to assumption he may have ingested an insect, the Telegraph reports. Mr Kapur, chairman of global car parts giant Sona Comstar, had hours earlier paid tribute online to the victims of yesterday's Air India plane crash tragedy. He posted: 'Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.' In a statement, Sona Comstar said: 'We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our Chairman, Mr Sunjay Kapur. 'He was a visionary leader whose passion, insight and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company.' Author and actor Suhel Seth posted on X, formerly Twitter: 'Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England. 'A terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues.' Mr Kapur's former wife, Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, has previously spoken in interviews about him playing polo with the Prince of Wales. The University of Buckingham graduate married Priya Sachdev Kapur, a former model and entrepreneur with whom he had a son named Azarias Kapur born in 2018. Mr Kapur died as his Aureus team were playing in a semi-final match in the Cartier Queen's Cup against Sujan Indian Tigers. The match started at 3pm on Tuesday, June 12 at the club's Smith's Lawn grounds. The club is closely associated with the Royal family. Prince Philip was the club's president from the time it was founded in January 1955 until his death in April 2021 - holding the role for 66 years. King Charles became the club's new president last year. In a statement the club said its chairman Lieutenant Colonel Sean O'Dwyer along with 'directors and members' were 'shocked to learn that Sunjay Kapur, owner of the Aureus polo team, died after becoming unwell when playing in a match at Smith's Lawn'. The statement added: 'The club sends its deepest condolences to his widow, Priya Sachdev, his children, the wider Kapur family and his Aureus team-mates. ' The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), the sports governing body in the UK, said: 'The HPA is enormously sad to confirm that Sunjay Kapur, patron of the Aureus Polo Team, passed away during a match at Guards on Thursday, 12 June. 'The incident was not playing-related and no further details will be released at this time. 'As the governing body, the HPA are supporting those involved and our thoughts are with Sunjay's wife Priya, his family, and the team at this time, and we kindly request that their privacy is respected.' Following news of his tragic death, Ashoka University, in the Indian capital New Delhi, posted online: 'Ashoka University mourns the passing away of Sunjay Kapur, Chairman, Sona Comstar and a valued member of the Ashoka fraternity. 'A prominent figure in India's business community, he will be remembered for his leadership. 'Our deepest sympathies are with his family at this difficult time.' And the Doon School in India - hailed as the country's equivalent to Eton - said they were 'deeply saddened' by the death of one of their former pupils. A statement shared online described Mr Kapur as 'a passionate fitness and sport enthusiast and a learner for life' who 'worked to make polo more accessible beyond its traditional roots'. The school added: 'Mr Kapur's enduring commitment to excellence, service, and community leaves a lasting legacy. 'The Doon School family extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace.' Mr Kapur has been described as a regular on the polo circuit favoured by the royal family. His global automotive company Sona Comsta, with operations across India, the US, China, Mexico and Serbia, provided key electric vehicle industry supplies. Mr Kapur's other positions included being president of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India and co-chair of the Confederation of Indian Industry's Manufacturing Council. The Guards Club has been described as 'the most prestigious polo club in the world, and members of the Royal Family including King Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry have frequently played there. It was originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club and British Army officers of the Household Division regiments were traditionally exempt from paying its joining fee which today stands at £45,000. It changed its name in 1969 then became 'a fully civilian club' in 2000 and is now the largest polo club in Europe in terms of membership and number of grounds. The club hosts around 600 matches a year with its season starting in April each year and finishing in mid September.

Snoop Dogg says emotional goodbye to beloved family member after tragedy
Snoop Dogg, who won an American Music Award for Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and a Primetime Emmy Award more recently, shared two videos on Instagram, writing he misses his French bulldog Juelz Snoop Dogg's beloved dog - given to him as a birthday gift from Wiz Khalifa - has died. The rapper expressed his sadness in two Instagram videos following the loss of French bulldog Juelz. Wiz Khalifa gave his friend the pooch in 2014 as a present for his 43rd birthday. But in a video yesterday, Snoop, now 53, told the fans the upsetting news. Sitting in the front seat of his car, soundtracked by Weldon Irvine's Morning Sunrise, the hip hop legend shared his grief. The father of four, from Long Beach, California, wrote: "Rip @juelzbroadus [crying emoji]Thank wiz for giving him to me.(sic)" The rapper then shared a second video, which featured a montage of Juelz with Snoop and his family and friends over the years, with Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's See You Again playing over the top. He wrote: "Miss my dogg @juelzbroadus (sic)" 'Pocket bully' dog overpowers pensioner as armed police rush to fatal attack Juelz had his own Instagram account, which had thousands of followers and documented his adventures with his famous owner over the years. Meanwhile, Snoop - who has another French bulldog, Frank - recently admitted he is keen to open a food stall at Celtic Park, the Scottish home of his favourite soccer side Celtic. He told Scotland's Sunday Mail, which is our sister title: 'There has always been the opinion that food at sports stadiums is never good but that ain't got to be the case. 'People know that Snoop is a cook and I would love to bring a pop up burger to a sports stadium to show fans that food at stadiums can be good. It's got to be Celtic Park man, I mean where else am I going to bring it. "The secret to a good burger is the love in the preparation. The ground beef has got to be mixed with some secret spices, then add a good quality cheese and some maple cured bacon. The Celtic fans are gonna love it, and to make sure they are just right, Snoop is going to be serving them himself.' But Snoop has no interest in offering his food to Celtic's great rivals rangers. He said: "Am I going to bring my burgers to Rangers as well? Nah, I think we will give that a miss!' Snoop revealed back in 2012 that he wanted to buy shares in Celtic after watching the Parkhead side beat Barcelona in the Champions League in November that year. At the time he said: "I got a lot of interest in soccer. It's not a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in sports teams but it is a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in soccer teams...I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell...I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things."
