'Everyone knows you've lost your job': The Project star Sam Taunton returns to stand-up comedy after brutal axing
Axed Project Star Sam Taunton has broken his silence following the shock cancellation of Channel 10's The Project in a new stand up set.
Taunton, a well-known stand-up comedian, joined the long-running panel show in 2023 as a full time weeknight panelist alongside fellow newbie Sarah Harris and veteran Waleed Aly.
The 33-year-old funny man took to the stage in Sydney this week to try out some new stand up material after news of the show's cancellation reached media outlets.
'It's just like everyone f**king knows you've lost your job and it's crazy,' Sam told the audience, as reported by the Daily Mail Australia.
'My dad rang me and said: 'Look, if I'm honest, the show wasn't for me. I prefer real news''.
Staunton then revealed that his co-host Waleed Aly tried to warn him about paparazzi due to the high level of media coverage about The Project's demise.
'Waleed – you might know that guy?' Taunton said.
'He texted me on Wednesday and said: 'I'm so sorry, Sam. Get prepared.
I just got papped by the paparazzi outside Chemist Warehouse near the studio.'
'I ran as fast as I could to Chemist Warehouse. Not one f***er took a photo of me!'
A Ten spokesperson confirmed to SkyNews.com.au last week that The Project will end its run after 'almost 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes' on June 27.
The long-running panel series was beset by sliding ratings and a rotating line up of anchors for years before it was officially axed.
Channel 10 has subsequently unveiled The Project's successor, a 'premium, in-depth news, current affairs and insights program' called 10 NEWS+.
The new 'premium' news show will be helmed by ex-Seven talent Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace.
It is understood that 10NEWS+ will inherit the first half of The Project's 6:30pm – 7:30pm slot, with the second half hour now freed up for the channel's primetime programming.
The anchor team will be supported by an existing pool of Ten reporters, including Political Editor Ashleigh Raper, Bill Hogan, Brianna Parkins, Samantha Butler, Carrie-Anne Greenbank and Claudia Vrdoljak.

Channel Nine has come under fire after fans of The Block noticed an "irresponsible" detail in the trailer for the new 2025 hit renovation series. The Block is expected to return to screens in August, with a fresh round of Blockheads this year building homes from scratch in the Victoria town of Daylesford before each one goes under the hammer for a grand prize. In a fun-packed teaser shared on the renovation show's social media accounts on Wednesday, Scotty Cam and Shelley Craft are seen sounding the horns of two big red trucks en route to the new countryside location. The co-hosts are joined by The Block's famous troupe, including former contestant turned foreman Dan Reilly and real estate agent Marty Fox. Judge Darren Palmer also made a cameo appearance riding a horse shirtless and, in true county theme, declared, "Howdy man". However, fans were quick to notice that Scotty and Shelley were not wearing seatbelts while driving the trucks and lashed out at the detail. "Probably should have put ya seatbelts on," one viewer wrote. Another person questioned, "Where are your seatbelts?" while a third person asked, "Why aren't they wearing their seatbelts, Nine?" One more viewer said Channel Nine was "irresponsible" for showing the TV figures not wearing the crucial safety feature. "How irresponsible of Channel 9 to advertise in prime time, showing celebrities driving on country roads and not wearing seatbelts," they said. "Clearly not aware of the road toll related to driving on rural roads." It's unclear whether Scotty and Shelly were driving the trucks or the scene was created using CGI, with some fans convinced of the latter. "They're not actually driving... watch the windows on the driver's side same scenery," one fan wrote. "It's obviously CGI," another person added. Elsewhere in the trailer, the new 2025 Blockheads were introduced to fans awaiting the return of the top-rated series. Emma and Ben, Can and Han, Robby and Matt, Alicia and Sonny, Brit and Taz enthusiastically jumped out of the back of one of the trailers in pairs. Scotty said a "truckload of fun" awaited the contents, who will undergo the tough job of building homes from scratch in a dramatic series first. The move marks a pivotal step away from the previous series stars competing against each other to renovate a home and sell it at an auction. The premise remains that the couple who wins the highest price at auction receives a grand monetary prize to help set them up for life. Pamela Anderson: 'AI technology and filters make people boring-looking'
Pamela Anderson wants to "challenge beauty norms". The former Playboy Bunny says AI and filters are making people become "boring-looking" and she would much rather people embrace their natural beauty like she has done by freeing herself of make-up. Pamela told the July/August issue of Harper's Bazaar UK: "I think that with AI technology and filters, people are becoming kind of boring-looking. I want to challenge beauty norms. I've always been a rebel. I never see somebody and think, 'I want to look like that.' I just want to see who I am. At some point you have to say, 'This is all I've got.' Surrender to it. And it's real happiness. It's freedom to know you can walk on a red carpet without a stitch of make-up on. I mean, why can't I? Men do it all the time."
