India saw over 10 cr cyber attacks since Pahalgam terror strike: PM told top official
NEW DELHI: There were over 10 crore cyber attacks since the Pahalgam terror strike, PM Narendra Modi is learnt to have told ministers and secretaries on Wednesday while asking every department and officer to be on alert and take quick measures.

The PM's message came weeks after the National Informatics Centre (NIC) asked ministries and departments to take preventive steps against cyber attacks. 'He suggested that there is a need to be alert and make efforts at every level to defeat such attacks in the changed method of warfare. Departments and officials need to act quickly rather than leaving it only to the NIC,' a source said.
During the council of ministers meeting, Modi directed ministries and department heads to focus on aspirational districts and blocks and instruct their officers to spend at least 24 hours there.
He also suggested that some share of MGNREGS funds should be for works to conserve water and said the focus for the next four years would be on 'qualitative improvement' to meet people's aspirations.
Officials who attended the meeting said Modi stressed on making infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and police stations, 'world class'. 'The PM said people backed him during demonetisation, Covid-19 pandemic and gave up benefits under the subsidised LPG connection scheme, indicating citizens appreciate good work.
He said programmes and projects must be outcome oriented and of high quality,' a source said.
Modi also stressed on the need to pay attention to public grievances and addressing them. PM shared how in PMO, 32 officers were identified and each of them read out the complete contents of 10 complaints. grievances were read out completely. 'The message was we need to give full attention to grievances and must not dismiss them quickly,' said an official.

Canadian PM reveals why he invited PM Modi to G7 meet
Hours after inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to this month's G7 meet in Alberta, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Friday pointed to India's status as the fifth-largest economy as a reason for the invite. Canada's action is seen as a step toward improving ties between the two countries, which had seen a sharp dip under the previous prime minister Justin Trudeau. 'As chair of the G7, it is important to invite the most important countries to attend to talk about important issues such as energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and India is really at the very centre of global supply chains,' Carney said during a news conference on Parliament Hill, as reported by The Globe and Mail. Carney also said that the most populous country in the world, with the fifth largest economy, should be present at the year's G7. The two countries had downgraded diplomatic ties after Justin Trudeau, the then Canadian PM, set off a political storm in 2023 when he alleged 'potential' involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of a Canada-based Khalistan separatist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India rejected the charges as 'absurd' and 'motivated'. On Friday, Carney declined to say whether he believed India had any involvement in Nijjar's death. 'There is a legal process that is literally under way and quite advanced in Canada, and it's never appropriate to make comments with respect to those legal processes,' Carney told. Carney, however, added that Canada and India had agreed to 'continued law enforcement dialogue,' though he did not confirm whether this includes cooperation in the Nijjar investigation. PM Modi had on Friday confirmed his attendance at the G7 in a post on X, saying he congratulated Carney on his election victory and that 'India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests.' Rahul Gandhi has used the slogan 'Narender Surrender" to allege that PM Modi 'surrendered" and stopped the attacks after a call from US President Donald Trump. The Congress also shared a two-panel cartoon on social media site X: the first showed Trump yelling 'Narender, surrender" into the phone, and the second showed Modi saying 'yes, sir". Even as Trump has claimed on multiple occasions that he had a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has maintained that the operation was paused at the request of Pakistan and no third party was involved in the process. India launched precision strikes aimed at terror establishments in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under the codename Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people. To the question, 'Do you believe that PM Modi has consistently taken a strong stand when it comes to national security?", a whopping 88.06% of the respondents replied 'Yes", while just 11.94% picked 'No". BJP leaders have hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his tactics, with party national president JP Nadda accusing the Wayanad MP of 'treason" as well as insulting the valour and courage of the armed forces. 'Rahul Gandhi calling the unmatched valour and courage of the Indian Army a 'surrender' is not only unfortunate but also a grave insult to the Indian Army, the nation and 140 crore Indians. If any Pakistani had said this, we would have laughed at him, but after the way Operation Sindoor wreaked havoc in Pakistan, no one from the people of Pakistan to its army and even its Prime Minister dared to say this, but Rahul Gandhi is saying this!
