17 Companies set sights on Saudi
Seventeen Bahraini companies are preparing to establish a formal presence in the Saudi market through the Overseas Expansion Program led by Tamkeen in partnership with Gulf-based platform AstroLabs.
Now entering its second phase, the initiative aims to support the regional growth of high-potential Bahraini enterprises. It reflects Tamkeen's 2025 strategy to enhance the role of Bahrainis in the private sector while promoting enterprise sustainability, digitisation, and workforce development.
AstroLabs Chief Strategy Officer Joe Kobrianos said the collaboration will provide the selected companies with a smooth entry into Saudi Arabia. 'From registration to market access, we're here to guide them,' he said, noting the readiness of Bahraini businesses to scale up.
Second Cohort
Among the newly selected firms are Creative Matter Advertisement, Fathom Media, and Gems Industrial Services, each bringing niche expertise in creative services, technology, and engineering. They are joined by Braxtone Group, an insurance solutions provider, and DOO, a startup using AI to enhance customer engagement.
Also in the cohort are Alfaa Graph, which designs architectural scale models, IT solutions provider Nexcel Computer Solutions, and mobile loyalty platform Loyale.
Many of these firms already operate in the Kingdom and are now formalising operations by setting up legal entities. AstroLabs is providing end-to-end expansion support, from compliance to market introduction.
First Batch
The first cohort saw ten companies make the leap, including packaging manufacturer Bahrain Pack, dietary service Right Calories, 3D manufacturing firm Xtrude, and City Glass, a producer of decorative and architectural glass.
Other members included Tanami Capital, Oreem, Boxon Vision, Cinqo Media, and Al-Anzour Physiotherapy and Rehab Complex. These firms helped prove the model's success, achieving early gains in Saudi Arabia.
Strategic Fit
The two cohorts now join more than 800 companies that have expanded into the Kingdom through AstroLabs. The company has assisted over 1,800 businesses in entering markets across the Gulf, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Tamkeen's Director of Workforce, Enterprise, and Startup Enablement, Marwa AlEskafi, said the results affirm Tamkeen's strategy. 'We are proud to see the impact of the first cohort and look forward to the growth of this new batch,' she said.

Mohammed Ibrahim, Managing Director of Informa Markets, which organizes the event, said the committees from global companies are preparing programs and activities that highlight the conference's importance. He praised the continuous support of the Ministry of Oil and Environment in ensuring the event's success in Bahrain. The conference will address key challenges facing the energy sector amid global shifts toward sustainability and clean energy. Discussions will focus on advanced technical solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green hydrogen, petroleum geology, reservoir engineering, and resource extraction technologies. Hajj package prices to soar 20% as new tent rules drive up costs

The increase comes after last year's unexpected losses, with organisers citing higher operational expenses, particularly new requirements for tents in Arafat and Mina. Rising costs The reversal from earlier savings hopes to rising costs is striking. Campaign operators, who declined to be named, said expenses linked to new service standards had forced them to increase prices by BD200 to BD250. The adjustment translates into a 15 to 20 percent rise across most packages. A source added that the hikes are seen as necessary to prevent a repeat of last year's financial setbacks. Regulatory spotlight The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Endowments has already received 67 applications from Bahraini campaigns seeking approval to operate next season. A meeting between the operators and the Supreme Committee for Hajj and Umrah Affairs is expected in the coming weeks to review preparations. Dr. Ali Ameen Al-Rayyes, Director of Religious Affairs at the Ministry and Deputy Head of Bahrain's Hajj Mission, confirmed that new regulations will soon take effect. The rules will prevent campaigns from advertising packages or prices until they receive official approval. Transparency push Campaigns may still hold promotional exhibitions, but only if their content exactly matches the ministry-approved profile published online. Al-Rayyes stressed that the changes aim to build trust by ensuring pilgrims receive accurate and reliable information. The regulations will also prohibit free Hajj offers or competitions that promise packages, closing the door on misleading promotions. For pilgrims, the season ahead will bring clearer safeguards and stricter oversight, but it will also place a heavier burden on families already budgeting carefully for the spiritual journey of a lifetime.

Fifth Minor Criminal Court Acquits Asian Employee of Embezzlement Charges
TDT | Manama The Fifth Minor Criminal Court has acquitted a woman in her forties, an Asian employee, of charges of embezzling funds from a company managing a chain of restaurants. The defendant was represented by lawyer Reem Al-Mahari, who argued that the case was maliciously filed by the company, which accused the employee of misappropriating company funds. Al-Mahari explained that her client worked in an administrative role, which included receiving checks to cover routine expenses such as workers' and employees' payments, transfers to the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, social insurance contributions, and petty cash. She submitted evidence showing that the funds in question had indeed been transferred to the relevant authorities. She also presented a labor court judgment indicating an unresolved dispute in which the company had withheld the employee's labor rights. The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with embezzling BD 1,420 between 2023 and 2024, in Muharraq Governorate, alleging she misappropriated cash belonging to the company that was under her custody by virtue of her job. The accusation was based on an accounting report submitted by the complainant, in addition to his statements. However, the court ruled that the evidence presented was insufficient to prove the charges. It noted that the case documents lacked reliable proof linking the defendant to the alleged crime, and that the accounting report did not conclusively establish embezzlement. The expert's findings only confirmed that the defendant had issued seven checks totaling BD 1,420, without proving any wrongdoing. The court further observed that the existence of labor disputes between the defendant and the complainant company added weight to the possibility of malicious intent behind the case. Based on Article 255 of the Criminal Procedure Law No. 46 of 2002, the court concluded that the charges were unsubstantiated and ruled to acquit the defendant.
