In a post on X, the Home Minister said that the speech not only reflects the achievements of the past 11 years but also lays a clear strategy for building a secure, self-reliant and prosperous India.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation presents a roadmap of the progress made over the past 11 years, the strength of the present, and the strategy for a prosperous India," he said.
Pointing to several key initiatives announced by PM Modi, aimed at strengthening national security and boosting internal development, Shah said, "Whether it's the elimination of terrorists through 'Operation Sindoor', the infrastructure security initiative under 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra', or the resolve to build an infiltrator-free India through the 'High-Powered Demography Mission', the Modi government is committed to making the nation stronger and more secure."
Shah also emphasised the Prime Minister's reaffirmed commitment to the welfare of farmers and the call for self-reliance in critical sectors.
He said, "Highlighting the government's unwavering commitment to farmers' interests, Modi Ji also called for self-reliance in sectors such as nuclear energy, critical minerals, energy, space, and jet engines."
"Additionally, the announcement of the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' and the major GST relief decision ahead of the upcoming Diwali will ease citizens' lives and boost small enterprises," the Home Minister added.

Odisha announces 21 NACs to boost infrastructure and services under urbanisation
The Mohan Majhi Government on Friday (August 15, 2025) announced the creation of 21 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) to boost infrastructure and services in line with Odisha's urbanisation needs. 'Better infrastructure and urbanisation are key components of development. Only 17% of our population lives in urban areas. Considering the State's rapid growth and people's aspirations, our government has decided to establish 21 more NACs,' Chief Minister Mohan Majhi declared during the Independence Day celebrations here. The creation of NACs was a major campaign plank ahead of the 2024 elections. The previous Naveen Patnaik Government had promised to set up NACs and municipalities to woo semi-urban voters, but the names were never announced. The Majhi Government also unveiled a welfare measure under which every family covered by the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will receive an additional 5 kg of rice per month for the next three months, benefiting 27 lakh families. After unfurling the Tricolour, Mr. Majhi dwelt at length on women's empowerment and safety — an issue on which the Opposition parties had been sharply critical. 'I have said on various platforms that the government follows a policy of zero tolerance towards crimes against women. Anyone committing violence against women — no matter how powerful or influential — belongs behind bars, not in civilised society,' he asserted. The CM, who also holds the Home portfolio, said the police had been given full authority to take necessary action. 'I have issued clear instructions that any neglect of women's safety will invite strict legal action. While law and order is generally under control, it must become more effective and robust,' he said. The State Government has recently faced criticism following a spate of incidents — including four girls committing self-immolation and several cases of gang rape and sexual assault — with both the Congress and Biju Janata Dal attacking its handling of women's safety.

Russia-US negotiations in Alaska likely to last 6-7 hrs: Kremlin
Moscow, Aug 15 (UNI) The high-level negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump in Alaska could take at least six to seven hours, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today. "In general, one can imagine that, of course, at least six to seven hours will be spent on this," Peskov told the Channel One broadcaster, as per state media TASS. The two leaders will have a one-on-one conversation, which will be held with the participation of aides, followed by the delegations from both sides joining the talks, Peskov said, commenting on the summit. The Russian side expects the meeting to end productively, Peskov added. Trump expressed similar sentiments over the talks, calling Putin 'a smart guy.' Russia had earlier praised Trump for his 'sincere' efforts in ending the war with Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier stating that much was done during the visits of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow. While the summit will primarily revolve around the war between the two countries, it will also take on an economic form, with Russia's presidential envoy for economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev also being part of the delegation. Also the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the official had told RIA Novosti that the talks will also be focused on the normalisation of ties between both countries, including on the issue of sanctions and restoring communication between Moscow and Washington. Zelenskyy Urges India's Help To End Russia-Ukraine War As Trump Meets Putin At Alaska
Last Updated: Zelenskyy extended wishes to Modi on the occasion of India's Independence Day and referenced their recent phone call earlier this week. As US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in Anchorage, Alaska, for talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced strong concerns about being left out of the negotiations. Zelenskyy insists that no final deal should be reached without Ukraine's direct involvement. Amid mounting anxiety over the summit, Zelenskyy has turned to India, reaching out with a symbolic and timely message for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Just hours before the Trump-Putin meeting began, Zelenskyy extended wishes to Modi on the occasion of India's Independence Day and referenced their recent phone call earlier this week. 'Our nations share the experience of standing up for freedom and dignity, as well as the pursuit of peace and development," Zelenskyy wrote. In the same message, the Ukrainian President expressed hope that India would step forward to play a role in ending the ongoing war. 'We hope that India will contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war, so that our freedom and sovereignty are truly secure," he added. Congratulations to the people of India, President @rashtrapatibhvn, and Prime Minister @narendramodi on the Independence Day!This week we had a good, candid conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi when I had an opportunity to personally convey my best wishes on this… — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) August 15, 2025 The message to India comes at a critical juncture, as President Putin sits down with Trump to explore possible solutions to the nearly four-year-long conflict. European leaders, along with Zelenskyy, remain wary of what concessions Trump might be willing to entertain. Earlier this week, Trump held a virtual meeting with Zelenskyy and several European heads of state, where he reiterated his support for Ukraine. According to two European diplomats who spoke to CNN, Trump told participants that he would advocate for an unconditional ceasefire during his discussions with Putin. The sources also noted that Trump stated the issue of Ukrainian territory was 'not for him to negotiate." Zelenskyy also held a separate call with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff ahead of the summit. While he sees the Trump-Putin meeting as a symbolic win for Putin, Zelenskyy remains cautiously hopeful. Trump has hinted that if today's talks in Alaska go well, a trilateral summit involving Ukraine could follow. view comments First Published: August 16, 2025, 02:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
