REVIEW: Bobcats Coffee triumphs in historic Colwyn Bay building
Formerly a landmark destination in the town's heyday, the building had become a notable eyesore since its incarnation as "The Imp" nightclub came to an end in 2010.
Bobcats Coffee, Colwyn Bay.
But, last year, the new owners' accommodation and commercial vision for the building was realised.
Bangor University graduate Bobby-Jack Stott, 20, opened Bobcats Coffee in late 2024, offering homemade toasties, sandwiches, pastries and sweet treats.
Vicki and Bobby-Jack at Bobcats Coffee, Colwyn Bay.
When he opened the cafe, Bobby-Jack told us: 'I'm excited to bring new life to this historic location and share our love for great coffee with the community."
I have worked for the North Wales Pioneer long enough to remember walking past the Imperial Hotel, Boots, and Blockbuster Video on my walk to the office.
Bobcats Coffee, Colwyn Bay.
So, for me, it is fantastic to see a new independent business thriving in the building, which to many is the first they encounter being located opposite the train station.
Bobcats CoffeeI was in town again to cover Colwyn Bay Pride last month, and called in to the cafe to recharge my batteries - more specifically my phone batteries.
Having made use of the facilities, I ordered a coffee and cake.
Bobby-Jack has made good use of the space, it's light, airy, and, most of all cosy.
There are no pretences, Bobcats Coffee aims to simply be a community cafe serving good coffee, cakes and light bites.
Bobcats Coffee, Colwyn Bay.
The coffee was very good, with non-dairy options available.
It came in a cat-themed mug, which was charming and, as I learned later, due to their choice of coffee as Bobcats Coffee serves Ginger Cat Coffee's Buddy Blend.
Bobcats Coffee, Colwyn Bay.
There was a good choice of cakes, all of which looked very tempting. My choice of fruit cake was essentially an oversized version of a country slice produced by a company known for good cakes. Exceedingly good in fact.
Being Pride, Bobcats Coffee was fulfilling the role of a hub for those venturing up towards town from the entertainment at the prom.
Locals and visitors alike were mingling and chatting, and the fresh servings of hospitality suggest that Bobcats is a great addition to Colwyn Bay.
Pet-friendly and inclusive, it may just the warmest welcome on offer in Colwyn Bay.
