Olympic swimmer engulfed in ‘inappropriate' behaviour accusations makes fiery statement

Yahoo06-06-2025
Luana Alonso will no longer stay silent.
The Paraguayan swimmer who reportedly was booted out of the Olympic Village during last year's Summer Games has fired back at 'false rumours' surrounding her departure from Paris.
Alonso posted a fiery statement on her Instagram stories this week, hitting out at the reports that she was removed for creating an 'inappropriate atmosphere.'
'Let me make this clear: I left the Olympic Village on my own,' she wrote on Wednesday. 'These are false rumours that have hurt my name and my career.'
Alonso ignited a firestorm at the Games last summer, going viral for alleged behaviour behind the scenes at the village.
The 21-year-old swimmer competed for Paraguay in the women's 100-metre butterfly, but failed to reach the semifinals – and then seemingly announced her abrupt retirement from the sport in a post on Instagram.
But instead of heading home, Alonso stayed in the French capital to see the sights – which were well-documented on her social media account – before reportedly got her booted by her country's Olympic committee for creating an 'inappropriate atmosphere.'
'Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,' Larissa Schaerer, the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), said in a statement at the time.
But, 11 months later, Alonso is now firing back at the accusations.
'The Paraguayan Olympic team claimed I created an 'inappropriate environment' simply because I decided I didn't want to swim anymore,' she said. 'They tried to take my accreditation away, but that's not something they had the right to do. I chose not to hand it over and apparently that was 'inappropriate' to them.'
The Daily Mail also reported that Alonso was accused of being a distraction to her fellow competitors with her socializing and attire.
She was often seen sporting stylish outfits as opposed to team uniforms and opted to take a trip to Disneyland Paris instead of cheering on her compatriots.
'I was judged for wearing skinny clothes, for socializing, and for not conforming,' she added. 'That's not inappropriate — that's being a young adult.
'I had finished racing. I was no longer obligated to stay. If others saw that as disrespectful, that's on them.'
Alonso reportedly checked into a Parisian hotel after leaving the Olympic Village, and visited high-end stores and restaurants.
But despite the contentious nature between herself and her country's Olympic committee, the Southern Methodist University alum claims she was asked by Paraguayan swimming officials to return to the pool for the Pan American Junior Games, which are being held in the country's capital, Asunción, this August.
'If I had been treated like a human being, maybe I would have stayed,' she said. 'But they made me feel like a problem.'

It's not only the COP that Alonso has in her crosshairs, either. The two-time Olympian also threatened legal action against media outlets that are spreading the 'false rumours' about her.
'I'm seriously considering legal action against the magazines and media outlets spreading false rumours like that I was expelled from the Olympic Village. Really? Who came up with that nonsense? Well that it's not true,' she wrote.
She also teased that she would be releasing a video to better explain her thinking.
'Seriously (these) lies are wild and affecting my life and that's why I decided I'm keeping my life lowkey,' she said.

Ben Shelton 'finally runs out of gas' against Zverev in Cincinnati Open quarterfinal

Ben Shelton's win streak came to an end after nine games on Friday night with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Alexander Zverev in the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati quarterfinal for a second straight year. Zverev punished Shelton's second serve, winning 15 of 19 points (79%). The former Gator still fired 12 aces and won 67% of his 39 first serves, but he only reached one break point to the German's 11, four of which were converted. Relying on his serve wasn't good enough, and it seems to be a pattern against the top three players in the world. Shelton is 0-for-6 against Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Medvedev this year. His only win in 14 total games against the trio came in 2023 against Sinner in Shanghai. Still, Shelton is knocking on the door of the top five and has a solid 190-point cushion on Novak Djokovic heading into the US Open. 'Finally ran out of gas,' said Shelton to his 1.2 million followers on Instagram. 'Great couple of weeks, but ready to get after it, New York City.' Grand Slams bring out the best in Shelton, especially this year, and he loves playing in front of a loud crowd on American soil. It will take a lot to catch up to Jack Draper in the No. 5 spot — who has 330 points more than Shelton — but a quarterfinal run or better might do the trick. Qualifiers for the US Open start on Monday, but Shelton doesn't have to play until the following week when the main draw begins. Men's and women's singles first-round games take place between Aug. 24 and 26. Matchups have not been released yet. Kim Kardashian ditches her signature dark hair for new color

Kim Kardashian may no longer be "keeping up" with her dark hair color. The "Kardashians" star took to Instagram on Friday, Aug. 15, with a photo soft-launching a possible return to blonde locks in a selfie featuring her pouted lips and a hair clip attached at the top of the fashion icon's forehead. "About that time," Kardashian captioned the post. City Girls rapper JT commented, "Favorite color on you!" Kardashian's hairstylist, Chris Appleton, wrote, "The best," as the "Your Roots Don't Define You" author added a white heart emoji. Met Gala 2022: Kim Kardashian channels Marilyn Monroe When did Kim Kardashian previously have blonde hair? The Skims founder has previously embraced blonde hair. In 2022, Kardashian channeled American beauty icon and blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe's hairstyle while at that year's Met Gala. Kardashian sparked backlash when she borrowed the original skin-tight, sparkling Bob Mackie dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy, nearly 60 years to the day after the iconic actress first did. She wore a tight, bleach blonde bun for the occasion, just two days after showing off flowing, dark hair at the White House Correspondents' Dinner with her then-boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson, during their red carpet debut. Then, two years later, she brought blonde back again for the Met Gala's 2024 edition with a platinum blonde look. Kardashian shimmered in a floral Maison Margiela dress by John Galliano as the gown's metallic silver sheen gave an ultramodern spin on "The Garden of Time" dress code. But the highlight of the night's look was her surprising hair choice: the platinum locks, parted and worn down. Contributing: Edward Segarra & Hannah Yasharoff/ USA TODAY
