Chelsea vs Crystal Palace predictions: Premier League tips and odds

Our expert has two tips for Sunday's Premier League clash between Chelsea and Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge (kick-off, 2pm). We think the Blues can grind out an opening victory. Chelsea vs Crystal Palace tips Chelsea to win and under 4.5 goals @ evens with Sky Bet Cole Palmer to have 1+ shot on target from outside the box @ 5/4 with Sky Bet Odds courtesy of Sky Bet. Match details What: Chelsea vs Crystal Palace, Premier League Where: Stamford Bridge When: 2pm, Sunday August 17 How to watch: Sky Sports Main Event Low-scoring win on cards for Blues Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Sunday just 35 days after they won the Club World Cup in New Jersey, and they could be forgiven for not being at their best given their lack of a proper pre-season. That said, they are 4/7 to beat the Eagles and they won 12 of their 19 league fixtures at Stamford Bridge last season. That looks on the skinny side but punters can squeeze value out of a Chelsea win by combining it with under 4.5 goals at evens with Sky Bet. Both meetings between these sides finished 1-1 last season, so this too could be a cagey affair, while Palace's Premier League contests averaged only 2.68 goals per game last season – the fifth-lowest in the division. Enzo Maresca's side have been dealt a blow by the news that Levi Colwill is out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but Wesley Fofana could come into the side and is one of Chelsea's best defenders on his day. Palace's star man Eberechi Eze will surely start for the Eagles, but it would be understandable if his head is not entirely on the game given his likely impending move to north London. All seven of Chelsea's Club World Cup fixtures featured under 4.5 goals in regulation time and, even though Palace will be buoyant after their Community Shield triumph, the Blues could just have too much for them at Stamford Bridge. Already a Sky Bet customer? Check out these sign-up offers from talkSPORT BET, Betano and LiveScore Bet Palmer should shine at Stamford Bridge Cole Palmer, while still effective, endured a bit of a dip in performance level last season, but his Club World Cup showings suggest his 2025-26 campaign could be better. And one of Sky Bet's 'Star Player Specials' stands out in this game with Palmer a value pick at 5/4 to have a shot on target from outside of the box. Despite the additions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, Palmer will still remain a key goal threat for the Blues, and only Erling Haaland (55) and Mohamed Salah (50) had more shots on target in last season's Premier League than Palmer (44). Interestingly, his average shot distance, not including penalties, was 20.4 yards, and he is not averse to having a crack at goal from long range. Chelsea also had the sixth-highest average for shots from outside the box in the Premier League last term. If this is a tight game as expected, Chelsea may be limited to a bit of Palmer magic – and he looks overpriced to test Dean Henderson from distance. Arsenal opener at Man Utd 'primed for narratives'

Arsenal open their Premier League campaign away to Manchester United on Sunday and Alex Moneypenny, host of Cannon Pod, believes the "huge" season opener will set the Gunners up for the season."It's massive for Arsenal to start well," Moneypenny said on a special Gunners episode of BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast."We spoke about Arsenal becoming more versatile and I think this is a game where we can really show it. I think it was Rob Edwards a couple of years ago who spoke about the different games Arsenal can play - and I see this as a running game."If you look at Manchester United's front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko with their wing-backs, can we go and match them or do we go different stylistically and try to control the game."Can we go and run through them with Kai Havertz or Viktor Gyokeres?"I really don't know about United because they've caused us problems over the years. "I'm interested to see how we set up and hopefully, we will have something for them. It's really fascinating and so primed for narratives. Listen to the full episode on BBC Sounds
