
Diriyah Awards $1.4bn Contract to Develop Royal Opera House
The Diriyah Co. has awarded a SR5.1 billion ($1.4 billion) contract to construct the Royal Diriyah Opera House, according to Arab News.
The company has awarded the following three companies the contract: El-Seif Engineering Contracting
Midmac Contracting Company W.L.L.
The China State Construction Engineering Corp
This new contract represents an integral part of a series of contracts that commenced at the beginning of the second quarter of 2025. The series stands as a testament to Diriyah's continuous efforts to develop the historic area on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Signed by Diriyah's Group CEO Jerry Inzerillo, the ceremony highlighted the presence of Khaled Al-Hazani, Executive Vice President of the lifestyle sector at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), and representatives of the three companies.
'The Royal Diriyah Opera House will be a defining asset in Diriyah, which reinforces Diriyah's growing global role in shaping Saudi Arabia's artistic and cultural future, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals,' Inzerillo said.
Set to be the largest opera in Saudi Arabia, the opera house will feature a 2,000-seat main hall.
Managed by the RCRC, the hall will be the centerpiece of this cultural complex, featuring a theater, studio, rooftop amphitheater, and numerous multipurpose halls.
With a total seating capacity of 3,100, this hub will reshape the Kingdom's cultural landscape.
'This contract is an important step in our journey toward building a diverse range of assets across the Diriyah development area,' Inzerillo added.
He also noted that this iconic architectural landmark will play a critical role in gathering people and offering them unforgettable performances.

Lulu opens new stores near holy sites to enhance pilgrim experience
Saudi Arabia is hosting millions of pilgrims for this year's Hajj, which is taking place from June 4 to 9. The Kingdom continues to ensure an organized, safe, and spiritually fulfilling experience for all pilgrims. As part of efforts to enhance pilgrim services, Lulu Group has partnered with Kidanh Development Company, under the supervision of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, to open new retail stores near key pilgrimage locations, including Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. These stores are already operational, providing easy access to essential items such as food, beverages, and personal care products. The agreement was signed by Muhammed Al-Mejmaj, executive manager at Kidanh, and Bashar Naseer Al-Besher, executive administration manager of Lulu Group. The project aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on improving quality of life and expanding private sector involvement in national development. This partnership marks a significant step toward enhancing the overall Hajj experience through effective public-private collaboration. Kidanh's development strategy includes modernizing traditional market areas near the holy sites to better serve the needs of pilgrims through modern infrastructure and organized retail services. More than 122,000 Indian pilgrims, including over 16,000 from Kerala, are performing Hajj this year. The new Lulu outlets are designed to meet the needs of this diverse and growing pilgrim community by offering trusted products in strategically located stores. Retail outlets have already opened, and shopping is underway, making Lulu one of the first major retailers to begin operating in close proximity to the holy sites. Eid Al-Adha 2025: Your Guide to Riyadh Metro Operating Hours
As Saudi Arabia is gearing up for Eid Al-Adha holiday, Riyadh Transport has announced adjusted operating hours for Riyadh Metro. The new working hours will take effect from Thursday, June 5, 2025 until Thursday, June 12, 2025. The changes aim to accommodate the increased movement and travel patterns during the Eid Al-Adha holiday. According to the Riyadh Transport X account, the Orange Line will operate daily from 10 am to midnight, effective from June 5 until June 14 (corresponding to Dhu'al-Hijjah 9 to 18). The line will resume its regular timetable on June 15, 2025, operating from 6 am to midnight. Meanwhile, the other Riyadh Metro lines (Red, Blue, Green, Purple and Yellow) will have a different timetable as follows: From 8 am to midnight on June 5 From 10 am to midnight on June 6, 7, and 8 From 8 am to midnight on June 9, 10, and 11 The lines will get back to regular schedule on June 12, 2025, operating from 6 am to midnight. Furthermore, the Riyadh Transport announced adjusted operating hours for Riyadh Buses, which will work from 5 am to midnight from June 5 to June 12. The on-demand bus service will also be available throughout the same period to meet the increased demand during Eid Al-Adha holiday. On November 27, 2024, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, officially inaugurated the Riyadh Metro project, one of the largest transportation networks in the world.
