The Athletics are once again in the cellar of the American League West, and in the first season of starting pitcher Luis Severino's three-year contract, the Athletics are already on the verge of trading him away at the deadline, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Photo bySeverino has struggled at home in Sacramento but has been fantastic on the road this season, and he has expressed his contempt for the ballpark in Sacramento.
Severino is winless at home with a 6.79 ERA, playing in the minor league ballpark the Athletics are calling home as they await their new stadium in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, he has been outstanding on the road in seven starts, posting a 2.27 ERA.
"The Athletics are now open to trading him after he continues to bash the environment in Sacramento, agitating the organization," Nightengale wrote. "It may come as a surprise if he's still with the organization come August."
If the Athletics choose to move on from Severino, teams searching for starting pitching should be calling on him as the trade deadline approaches. Teams will likely look at Severino's road starts as his value-building numbers and what he will bring to their team.
Meanwhile, his atrocious home performances will likely be brushed over while teams look for depth in the rotation heading for the stretch run.
With a light starting pitcher class for this season's trade deadline, Severino might be one of the league's hottest commodities as July kicks off.

Adell's double in 8th drives in the game's first run as Angels beat Braves 4-0 and return to .500

ATLANTA (AP) — Jo Adell's run-scoring double in the eighth inning ended a scoreless tie and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Atlanta Braves 4-0 on Tuesday night. The Angels (42-42) reached .500 for the ninth time this season, while the Braves (38-46) have lost five of six. Adell's double down the left-field line off Dylan Lee (1-3) drove in Mike Trout, who doubled. Jorge Soler, who came off the injured list after missing 11 games with lower back inflammation, added a two-run double off Enyel De Los Santos in the four-run inning. Angels shortstop Zach Neto returned as the leadoff hitter after missing four starts with a jammed right shoulder. 'Having the two guys back makes a huge difference,' interim manager Ray Montgomery said before the game. The refurbished lineup struggled against Atlanta right-hander Grant Holmes, who allowed only three hits and recorded 10 strikeouts in six innings. Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson also threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Rookie right-hander José Fermin (1-0) earned his first win with a scoreless seventh. Key moment Michael Harris II ended an 0-for-22 drought with a triple to open the fifth. The Braves couldn't drive in Harris thanks in part to Ronald Acuña Jr.'s third of four strikeouts in the game. Key stat A first-inning single extended Matt Olson's career-best, on-base streak to 31 games. The longest active streak in the majors of games safely reaching base began May 29. Up next Braves rookie right-hander Didier Fuentes, 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA after two starts, was moved back one day to start on Wednesday. Outfielder Jurickson Profar is expected to make his return from an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drug use. Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (3-6, 2.79) is listed as the Angels' starter. ___ AP MLB:

Shohei Ohtani to Make 4th Start of the Season While Celebrating His 31st Birthday

Shohei Ohtani will make his fourth start of the 2025 MLB season on Saturday, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday. When Ohtani takes the mound next, it will come on his 31st birthday. Ohtani will again serve as an opener and Justin Wrobleski is expected to follow as a bulk pitcher against Houston. The Japanese two-way star threw 27 pitches over a season-high two scoreless innings last weekend at Kansas City, giving up a hit with one strikeout and one walk. In other news, the team also announced reliever Michael Kopech had become its 12th pitcher on the injured list. Kopech said he had scans on his right knee that didn't show any serious issues. The 29-year-old right-hander received a shot to ease inflammation. "I don't think it'll be a long-term situation," Roberts said Tuesday. The IL move was retroactive to Saturday. Kopech missed the first 64 games of the season while working his way back from a right shoulder impingement that he sustained during the team's postseason run last year. Kopech has thrown seven scoreless innings in eight appearances. Right-hander Will Klein was recalled from Oklahoma City, five days after he was optioned to the Triple-A farm team. Acquired June 2 from Seattle for left-hander Joe Jacques, Klein threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in two previous appearances with the Dodgers this season In other pitching updates: — Japanese rookie phenom Roki Sasaki (shoulder) is pain free and threw from flat ground Tuesday. "The velocity, the effort, intensity, all that stuff has really ticked up," Roberts said. "Physically, he looks good." The manager said he's not sure when Sasaki will throw from a mound, but he pronounced himself "pretty optimistic." — Tyler Glasnow (shoulder inflammation) will make his next rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander is expected to ramp up to five innings and 75 pitches. — Blake Snell (shoulder) and reliever Blake Treinen (forearm) each will throw to hitters on Wednesday.
