Shell reboots LiveWIRE programme for Malaysian entrepreneurs

KUALA LUMPUR: Shell has brought back its Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia programme this year, calling on Malaysian entrepreneurs nationwide to participate.
The initiative aims to empower budding entrepreneurs and could be a catalyst for their business journey.
The programme guides entrepreneurs through a series of workshops designed to help them develop or refine their business ideas, validate their business models and equip them for success as business owners.
Participants will also take part in a pitching workshop and competition towards the end of the programme, aimed at building essential skills to support their business growth.
Shell said it is seeking entrepreneurs with ideas that drive environmental sustainability, social impact and business innovation.
"Shell LiveWire Malaysia will run in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Peninsular Malaysia. Five winners from each state will receive seed grants of RM10,000," it said in a statement today.
The five winners from each state will then compete at the national level, where five national winners will stand a chance to win an additional RM30,000.
"Alongside the grant, the winners will also be provided with mentorship and guidance to kickstart their businesses, from the Shell LiveWire Malaysia facilitators for the next three years and stand a chance to be absorbed into Shell's supply chain and a chance to go into partnership with Shell retailers," it added.
Application deadlines are set for May 12 in Kuching, June 9 in Kota Kinabalu and July 7 for Peninsular Malaysia.

Anwar meets Vietnamese PM Chinh at BRICS summit in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit in Brazil. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with discussions spanning trade, energy, and maritime cooperation. Anwar was joined by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Also present was Datuk Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani, deputy secretary-general for Bilateral Affairs at Malaysia's Foreign Ministry. This marks the third high-level engagement between the two leaders this year, following their meetings at the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur and the ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi. Malaysia remains Vietnam's third-largest ASEAN trading partner and ninth globally, with bilateral trade hitting US$14.2 billion in 2024. Both nations aim to boost this figure to US$18 billion by year-end. Key topics included enhancing cooperation in defence, fisheries, and green energy. Anwar emphasised the need for joint efforts to combat illegal fishing while ensuring sustainable marine resource management. He also backed renewable energy investments in southern Vietnam, including an undersea cable project to improve regional energy connectivity under the ASEAN Power Grid initiative. 'I look forward to further discussions at the ASEAN Summit in October to deepen our strategic partnership,' Anwar said. - Bernama

Clear And Consistent Policies Key To Attracting Foreign Investments

From Mohd Khairi Idham Amran GENEVA, July 7 (Bernama) -- Clear and consistent government policies, backed by political stability, are among the key factors drawing foreign investors to Malaysia, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking at a gathering with the Malaysian diaspora on Sunday, Fahmi cited the MADANI Economy framework, the 12th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) as examples of coherent policies that inspire investor confidence. 'These policies provide clarity and assurance to investors. They trust that such policies won't be changed arbitrarily,' he said. He pointed to recent data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) as proof that Malaysia continues to be a preferred destination for foreign direct investment. In fact, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), approved investments for the first quarter of 2025 totalled RM89.8 billion, a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase, despite global economic headwinds. The gathering, held at Rumah Malaysia here, was attended by around 50 Malaysians, including students, professionals, and staff from the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations. Also present was Malaysia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Datuk Nadzirah Osman. During the event, Fahmi also highlighted Malaysia's progress in the communications sector. 'Malaysia is among the top 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet, and we have the second fastest internet speed in the Asia-Pacific region after South Korea,' he noted.

"Malaysia is among the top 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet, and we have the second fastest internet speed in the Asia-Pacific region after South Korea," he noted. Meanwhile, Nadzirah welcomed the gathering, saying it gave Malaysians in Geneva a chance to engage directly with the minister and hear updates from home. "This programme allows the Malaysians in Geneva to share views with the minister and receive first-hand updates on current developments back home," she said. Syakira Ramli, President of the Malaysian Association of Geneva, said various topics were discussed during the gathering, including areas where Malaysia could improve by learning from Switzerland's strengths. "Switzerland is very strong and keen on administration and keeping track of advancement as well as making progress, as a society, and moving forward in the financial, education or even infrastructure," she said. For Malvyn Tan, Head of Commercial Fuel at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the gathering provided an opportunity for the Malaysian diaspora to share feedback and express their views. "I think Fahmi is very open and receptive, and this made us very comfortable to share our experiences while he shares the development in Malaysia," he said. Fahmi is currently leading the Malaysian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society+20 High-Level Event (WSIS+20), which will be held here from July 7 to 11, as part of the Madani Government's ongoing efforts to strengthen an inclusive national communications technology ecosystem aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). - Bernama
