Yankees Trade Pitch Lands Aaron Judge a 292-Home Run Third Baseman

Yankees Trade Pitch Lands Aaron Judge a 292-Home Run Third Baseman originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As it turns out, maybe New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. is better off at third base after all—and that could pose a slight change of plan for Aaron Judge's latest title chase. Advertisement Chisholm opened the season as the Yankees' second baseman and hit the IL in early May batting .181 with a .714 OPS. However, DJ LeMahieu's return and Oswaldo Cabrera's severe ankle injury forced Chisholm back to third base, where he spent most of last season. All Chisholm did in his first four games was go 8-for-16 with two homers and six RBI. His average is up to .223, his OPS has skyrocketed to .797, and he's, at least temporarily, silenced the questions about his fit in New York. Chisholm's recent hot streak also raises questions about the Yankees' trade deadline plans, specifically adding a second or third baseman. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller suggested the inconsistent Arizona Diamondbacks could potentially trade veteran third baseman Eugenio Suárez if they pivot to 2026. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio SuarezBrett Davis-Imagn Images Miller listed the Yankees as a fit for Suárez, who owns 16 homers and a .809 OPS for the 31-31 D-backs. Suárez turns 34 in July and is a free agent after the season. Advertisement We've heard that idea before, but that was before Chisholm took over the hot corner and finally looked comfortable at the plate again. Suárez remains a dangerous home run hitter, entering Saturday only eight bombs shy of 300. A lineup featuring Suárez, Judge, Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and a consistent Chisholm is very bad news for opposing pitchers come October. However, Suárez has only played third base since 2022—Suárez initially played shortstop earlier in the majors—and the Yankees don't have room for another DH, especially if Giancarlo Stanton avoids an injury setback. Plenty can change before the July 31 deadline, and Chisholm can easily enter an extended hitting slump. But if he continues hitting well and doesn't mind staying at third base, the Yankees may want to look elsewhere for infield help. Dodgers Trade Pitch Adds $37 Million Yankees Bust After Tony Gonsolin Injury

Dodgers Trade Pitch Adds $37 Million Yankees Bust After Tony Gonsolin Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As it stands, injuries might be New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman's best friend. Advertisement Stroman arrived at Yankees camp in February insisting he viewed himself as a starter and wouldn't pitch out of the bullpen. Luckily for the two-time All-Star, he earned a rotation spot because Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt all landed on the injured list before Opening Day. Stroman's future in the Bronx remains unclear, both because of his own knee injury and an overall disappointing Yankees tenure. He's missed nearly two months after giving up 12 runs over 9 1/3 innings over his first three starts. If the Yankees trade Stroman in the coming weeks, their first call should be to the Los Angeles Dodgers—assuming, of course, the Dodgers don't send the initial message. New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus StromanVincent Carchietta-Imagn Images The Dodgers placed veteran starter Tony Gonsolin on the injured list Saturday with right elbow discomfort. Gonsolin missed the end of 2023 and all of last season following Tommy John surgery, and fears immediately mounted that he's headed for another procedure. Advertisement Gonsolin is 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA and 38-18 K-BB ratio over 36 innings Although Stroman may not be the pitcher he once was, the Dodgers need whatever help they can get. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are on the 60-day IL with shoulder injuries. Roki Sasaki is also recovering from a shoulder injury, although he's only on the 15-day injured list. Fans can say whatever they want about the divisive Stroman, but he averaged 152 innings from 2021-24, and he'd likely be ecstatic at a guaranteed starting spot. Stroman should also come cheap, in part because he's a pending free agent. This theoretical trade gives the Dodgers a much-needed veteran arm, and it frees the Yankees of a player who clearly isn't a fit for pinstripes. At least on paper, it's hard to call that trade pitch anything but a win-win. Dodgers React to Major Clayton Kershaw News on Sunday

Dodgers React to Major Clayton Kershaw News on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium today, and starter Clayton Kershaw was on the mound for the reigning World Series champions. Advertisement Kershaw entered the game positioned 21st on the MLB's all-time strikeout list. He needed just three strikeouts to tie Zack Greinke's total of 2,978 and four to move past him. Kershaw allowed six hits and just one earned run over five innings on Sunday afternoon, striking out seven. The 2014 National League MVP passed Greinke on the all-time strikeout list in the bottom of the third inning, striking out Cardinals left fielder Lars Nootbaar, who came into the afternoon batting .247 this season. Shortly after Kershaw moved past Greinke, the Dodgers took to social media to react, simply reposting the news with no words. Los Angeles Dodgers' repost.@dodgers/X Kershaw, who was drafted seventh overall by the Dodgers in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft, is now in his 18th major league season. Entering today's start, he had a 0–0 record with a 5.17 ERA, eight strikeouts and a 1.66 WHIP across four appearances in 2025. Advertisement Kershaw is a 10-time All-Star, a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner and holds one NL MVP award won in 2014. He led the league in ERA five times, wins three times and strikeouts three times. He also threw a no-hitter in 2014 and helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020. With Sunday's achievement, the Dodgers pitcher now sets his sights on reaching 3,000 strikeouts as he looks ahead to the next milestone in his career.
