Is Lucid Group a Millionaire-Maker Stock?

Is Lucid Group a Millionaire-Maker Stock?

Globe and Mail4 hours ago

Smaller stocks are ideal for investors willing to take additional risks for the potential for multi-bagger returns. With a stock price of just $2.22 (corresponding to a market cap of $6.77 billion), Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) fits into this category. But the electric vehicle maker didn't get this cheap by accident. Let's dig deeper to see if it can overcome its operational challenges and generate massive wealth over the long term.
What went wrong for Lucid?
Looking at Lucid's stock price chart, it is clear that something went terribly wrong for the company. Shares have fallen by a whopping 96% from their all-time high of $58 (reached in early 2021), which means many early investors have been almost completely wiped out. The problem had a lot to do with macroeconomic factors outside management's control.

For starters, post-pandemic inflation caused the Federal Reserve to aggressively hike interest rates, making it harder for consumers to access credit to afford Lucid's high-priced sedans (the flagship Lucid Air starts at $71,400). Furthermore, EV demand began to slow as early adopters were reached and more competition entered the market.
Even the industry leader Tesla has faced pressure, with its automotive revenue dropping by 6% in 2024 -- before Elon Musk's overt political involvement made the situation even worse in 2025.
However, unlike Tesla, Lucid lacks the economies of scale to maintain profitability or keep losses under control, leading to spiraling cash burn. While first-quarter revenue grew by a respectable 36% year over year to $235 million, the company still burned through an eye-watering $692 million in just that quarter.
Lucid stays afloat through outside sources of capital, such as shareholder dilution (creating and selling more stock). But this has likely contributed to its underperformance.
Could Tesla's weakness be Lucid's strength?
Tesla's situation worsened in 2025, with first-quarter automotive sales dropping 20% year over year amid consumer boycotts and political backlash related to its CEO. This weakness could create an opportunity for Lucid to capture market share because it competes directly with Tesla's flagship Model S in the full-size luxury sedan segment.
This opportunity could be compounded by the possible passing of Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill" legislation, which aims to remove the $7,500 tax credit for EV purchases. According to CNN, the bill's current wording might exempt small players like Lucid, giving them a tremendous edge over their larger rivals -- although this legislation is still working its way through Congress, and nothing is finalized yet.
Trump's 25% tariff on foreign cars may also advantage Lucid by hurting imported luxury EVs from brands like Audi and Mercedes.
Is Lucid stock a buy?
Lucid definitely enjoys a lot of encouraging tailwinds from Tesla's political quagmire and Trump's trade and economic policies. That said, whether or not it turns into a millionaire-maker stock will probably depend on the rollout of its new SUV platform, Gravity, launched in late 2024.
Gravity is a make-or-break product for Lucid because SUVs tend to be more popular than sedans in the US. The vehicle likely contributed to Lucid's high top-line growth rate in the first quarter. And analysts seem optimistic that this trend can continue with a consensus estimate of Lucid hitting $1.4 billion in total revenue in 2025, which would represent a growth rate of 73.3%.
With a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 6.7, Lucid's stock looks reasonably priced, considering its growth potential (Tesla has a P/S of 11). And while some investors may want to wait for more information, I think it might finally be time to pull the trigger and bet on a bull run.

'A Pandora's Box': Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Gains as Lawsuit Contains Serious Potential Pitfalls

The notion of artificial intelligence (AI) in the arts is as present as it is potentially calamitous. So when communications giant Comcast (CMCSA) decided to take on a comparative startup in the market it seemed like a clear response to conditions in the field. But Comcast may be letting itself in for more harm than good, a Bloomberg report noted. Despite this, shareholders are encouraged, and Comcast shares posted modest gains in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter Comcast, along with Disney (DIS), joined in a lawsuit targeting Midjourney, an AI company that has an image generator. And of course, a lot of AI generators turn to copyrighted materials to learn how to work. On a certain level, this is expected; let the human writer among us who was not influenced by copyrighted material—the works of another writer—throw the first stone on this one. But Comcast and Disney are going full-bore ahead with the lawsuits. And that, Bloomberg noted, is where the potential calamity lies. Disney and Comcast are presumably looking to turn to AI as well for their own projects. So while Disney and Comcast call Midjourney a 'bottomless pit of plagiarism,' they are finding themselves increasingly interested in dipping a toe in said pit, taking advantage of the staggering potential for productivity and cost savings therein. Indeed, as the Bloomberg report put it, '…when studios attempt to rein in the same technology that they're eagerly using elsewhere, the more urgent question isn't about retreat.' Independent Chair? No Way, Say Shareholders In a more mundane development, Comcast took a proposal to shareholders for an 'independent chair' of the Comcast board of directors. Such a chair, Comcast asserted, would be something of a check and balance to the power of Brian Roberts, current CEO of Comcast, who also serves as the current chair. But shareholders were happy enough with things as-is, and thus voted down the proposal. A second proposal called for consideration of 'CEO pay ratio,' or how much the CEO gets paid compared to the average employee, when considering executive pay. Shareholders apparently did not care about that either, as that proposal was likewise rejected. Is Comcast Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on CMCSA stock based on nine Buys, 10 Holds and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 10.97% loss in its share price over the past year, the average CMCSA price target of $41.44 per share implies 19.44% upside potential. 'Largest of its Kind' Tesla Stock (NASDAQ:TSLA) Notches Up With New Battery Power Plant in China

While most of us tend to focus on electric vehicle giant Tesla (TSLA) for, well, its electric vehicles, there is one part of Tesla that tends to go oddly underappreciated: its batteries. The things that make the cars go also have a great potential to keep the lights on at our homes. And they may be about to do just that in China, as Tesla will be building a new 'grid-scale battery power plant' therein. The news sent Tesla shares up fractionally in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter The new plant that Tesla is looking to build represents something of a novel approach to wide-scale power generation. While more and more users are looking to renewables like wind and solar for some part of grid-power operations, even the most fervent supporters of same know that there is a problem there: the sun does not always shine, nor does the wind always blow. So battery plants are being considered more and more as a way to store energy in the good times, to be parceled out to the grid later on. And with Tesla's battery factory in Shanghai already having produced 100 Megapacks—the kind of battery that works at grid-level—in the first quarter alone, Tesla might be able to set up such a plant fairly rapidly. It will be quite a plant, too; reports note that the project will be '…the largest grid-side energy storage project in China,' Tesla representatives noted. Given that one Megapack can offer one megawatt for four hours, that could indeed be a serious power project. Try Before You Buy Want to test-drive a Tesla? Well, you may have an opportunity to do just that thanks to a partnership effort between Tesla and the Electrify Expo, which will allow users to take a Tesla home for the weekend and put it through its paces before returning it. Tesla is just the first such company to go in right now, as Electrify Expo is looking to bring in more carmakers to the deal. Though right now, this is limited to the Los Angeles show only, which starts tomorrow, expansions are likely to follow. Dubbed the 'Electrify Weekender' experience, the event is likely to expand to Chicago, Dallas, New York, San Francisco and Seattle by the end of the year, with the Los Angeles experience serving as a way to work out any kinks in the program. Is Tesla a Buy, Hold or Sell? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 14 Buys, 12 Holds, and nine Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 75.97% rally in its share price over the past year, the average TSLA price target of $286.14 per share implies 11.93% downside risk. See more TSLA analyst ratings Disclosure

Meta Platforms Stock (NASDAQ:META) Slips on New Smart Glasses, AI Logs

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses—a co-production of social media giant Meta Platforms (META) and EssilorLuxottica—recently emerged, as Meta continues a practice of trying to take on the wearable tech market, which some thought was dead, or sufficiently full to where it no longer mattered. But that, and an unexpected new connection to artificial intelligence, left investors cold. Meta shares slid fractionally in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses—which I am assured, amazingly, is pronounced how-stun—is the first step beyond the Ray-Ban brand, reports note. The new glasses will draw on the PRIZM Lens technology Oakley is known for, which delivers different responses to various weather conditions and light levels. Plus, the HSTN line has improved battery life over its predecessors as well as a better camera. Plus, the HSTN glasses will pack a connection to the Meta AI digital assistant, which allows for a range of functions, starting with recording videos on command or retrieving weather data. The HSTN glasses are water resistant—which means they cannot be immersed to a specific depth, but will do just fine against rain and sweat—and offer several frame color choices for aesthetics. There is even a 'limited-edition' version that offers gold lenses, but will cost $499. Be Careful What You Ask That AI But then, a more disturbing revelation emerged about Meta and its connection to AI. Meta's AI system as a tab known as 'Discover,' which apparently keeps track of what people ask Meta. And then, reveals that to other people. That is all fine and well when you want Meta AI to make you a picture of an '…adorable Maltese dog (that) becomes a heroic lifeguard,' but if you're like one guy who asked about countries were '…younger women like older white men,' it may not be the kind of thing you want known. And the discussion topics get worse and weirder from there; don't ask about the poor Nigerian fellow who developed a rash somewhere on his person after shaving. The list goes on; Specific medical issues are discussed, discussion on crimes committed, extramarital affairs, and even specific home addresses are given. And this is leading to a growing number of users calling for the Discover tag to be removed. While text prompts were apparently pulled for a while, subsequent reports noted they returned later. Is Meta Platforms a Buy, Sell or Hold? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on META stock based on 42 Buys, three Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 40.62% rally in its share price over the past year, the average META price target of $707.16 per share implies 2.59% upside potential. See more META analyst ratings Disclosure
