Golf superfan gets tattooed with star players ahead of Open's return to NI

Earlier this year, Jordan Black embarked on a challenge to get images of the triumphant 2023 European Ryder Cup team tattooed on his leg before the Open returned to his native Northern Ireland.
Jordan Black is hopeful of completing the golfing body art before the start of this year's Ryder Cup in September (David Young/PA).
The 35-year-old from Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, now has Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg and captain Luke Donald all depicted on his left leg.
While he will not have completed the set by the time the Open Championship tees off at Royal Portrush Golf Club on Thursday morning, he is confident of doing so before the start of this year's Ryder Cup at the Bethpage Black course in New York in September.
And this week he got a chance to show off the progress on his golfing body art to one of the greats who is already inked on his leg.
Jon Rahm (top left) is one of the players already tattooed on Mr Black's leg (David Young/PA).
The Carrickfergus Golf Club member got a favourable reaction from Spanish two-time major winner Rahm when he met him at the conclusion of one of his practice rounds at Portrush.
'He says he loves it,' Mr Black told the PA news agency.
'He's seen it and he really likes it. So it's nice to know that.'
He added: 'I started it in February. I wanted to have it finished before the Open, but fell short of that deadline, but I'll get it finished for the Ryder Cup. I've got Rory, Shane, Tommy, Ludvig, Jon Rahm and Luke Donald so far.'
Mr Black will be hoping to encounter some more of the game's star players when he returns to Portrush on Friday to watch the second round action.
'I'm a massive golf fan, I've played for about 20 years,' he said.
'I'm going up on Friday with the family – I'm really looking forward to it.'

Love Island fans slam 'terrifying' boys over 'bully' behaviour

Love Island fans have been left 'terrified' by two male members of the cast after their behvaviour on the ITV2 reality show Love Island fans have been left "terrified" by two male members of the cast. ‌ Viewers of the ITV2 dating reality show, which is currently in its final weeks on air, were left shocked when Harry Cooksley decided to flirt with Angel Swift, even though he is currently coupled up with Helena Ford. ‌ The 30-year-old footballer riled fans up even further when he commented on Angel's underwear, right in front of his girlfriend. The move came just moments after he assured Helena that he had "binned off" Bombshell Angel so he could be fully committed to their own romance. ‌ Meanwhile, fellow Islander Dejon Noel-Williams disappointed fans when he declined Yasmin Pettet's request for a chat after he had dished out a string of mean comments during a Snoggathon challenge. At the time, he claimed that he was busy eating but later told her that he "was just joking" but insisted that if it was all taken in offence, then he apologised to her. Still, the two boys have ruffled the feathers of those who tuned into Love Island and the loyal fans of the programme took to social media to make their opinions known. One wrote on X: "Dejon is one of the worst islanders to enter this villa. The gaslighting, the manipulation, the deflection, the lack of accountability and the bullying. It's been hard to watch," whilst another took great issue with Harry, writing: "Harry giving googly eyes to Angel in front of Helena is so disrespectful. What is wrong with these men?' In venting their frustration at both, a third fan wrote: "Harry's the devil you know, Dejon is the devil you don't." ‌ Another fan was quick to describe Dejon as "very calculated" with how he conducts himself in the Spanish villa, saying: "Dejon is very very calculated. Even how he has reflected and used the very things he knows the public voted them down for… Byeeee", but another viewer claimed that both the footballer and his current girlfriend Meg Moore are simply a construct that have come from behind the scenes. They said: "Meg and Dejon is propaganda I am seriously not falling for love island producers.' The social media furore comes just days after - who has embarked on an on-off relationship with Helena since the show started but haven't yet "closed things off" - said in Friday evening's episode that he was "open" to getting to know bombshell Angel. Only time will tell if he has a better connection with Angel than he has with Helena. ‌ Despite the high drama of Monday's episode, none of this was enough to keep viewers interested, with many fans calling it "the most boring" one of the entire series. Viewers kept repeating they were "bored" with some wanting to "skip" to the end of the episode. Taking to social media, one fan commented: "So obviously today is gonna be the most boring episode of the season." Another fan said: "Can we skip to the end," as a third viewer asked: "Is anyone else mad bored?" Another fan wrote online: "I'm bored and theres still the date to come," while a further comment from a viewer said: "Can't lie it's starting to become boring now." This was echoed by another fan who posted: "This is such a boring episode." The same comments kept on being shared, as one fan said: "This episode is so boring." Another fan agreed: "Most boring episode to date." As the episode came to an end, a tomorrow night teaser revealed a dumping was looming. Not only that but there's a special guest performing at the Love Island 'festival' before the Islanders must say goodbye. Viewers went back to commenting about the episode after seeing this, making a plea to bosses. A fan posted: "What a waste of my time @LoveIsland. Don't do that again." Another fan posted: "What a waste of an episode."

Sunderland close in on former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka

The PA news agency understands the Black Cats have agreed personal terms with the 32-year-old former Arsenal skipper and are attempting to thrash out a fee with Erik ten Hag's Bundesliga club. Switzerland international Xhaka, who began his career at Basel before heading for Borussia Monchengladbach, spent seven years with the Gunners and is well acquainted with England's top flight. He joined Arsenal in a £35million switch from Monchengladbach during the summer of 2016 and made 297 appearances for the club, winning two FA Cups, before returning to Germany with Leverkusen in July 2023. Xhaka, who has been caped 137 times by his country, won the league title at the end of his first season and made 49 appearances in all competitions, 10 of them in the Champions League, during the last campaign. A combative player, Xhaka was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy in November 2019 after a heated exchange with home fans at the Emirates Stadium.

Ryder Cup to return to Spain in 2031

It will be the second time the biennial event has been staged in the country, after Valderrama in 1997. The news was announced by the European Tour Group on Tuesday. We're heading back to Spain for the first time since 1997 🇪🇺 — Ryder Cup Europe (@RyderCupEurope) July 22, 2025 It will only be the fourth time the tournament will have been played in continental Europe after Paris (2018) and Rome (2023) followed Valderrama as hosts. This year's Ryder Cup takes place at Bethpage Black in New York in September. Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland will be the venue in 2027 and Hazeltine, near Minnesota in 2029. Guy Kinnings, chief executive of the European Tour Group, said: 'Today's announcement not only recognises Camiral as one of Europe's leading venues, but also the considerable contribution Spanish golf has made to the proud history of the Ryder Cup. 'The Ryder Cup has grown significantly since Spain last hosted it in 1997. It is one of the world's leading sporting events, which brings significant economic benefits and global exposure to a host region and country, so we could not be happier to be taking it to Costa Brava and Barcelona for the first time, and to Spain for the second time.' Eleven Spaniards have represented Europe throughout the competition's history and Seve Ballesteros famously captained the team to victory over the United States at Valderrama. Camiral, which is close to Girona and around an hour's travel from Barcelona, has also been confirmed as the host of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship on the DP World Tour from 2028-30. Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, president of Spain's national sports council, said: 'The Government of Spain welcomes the selection of Camiral as the host venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup – a global sporting event that will showcase our country to millions of viewers around the world. 'The Ryder Cup is not only one of the most prestigious competitions on the international sporting calendar, but also an exceptional platform to demonstrate Spain's ability to successfully host major 21st-century events, combining world-class infrastructure, unparalleled natural environment and a globally renowned tourism, cultural and culinary offering.' Juan Guerrero-Burgos, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, said: 'It is an honour for Spain to host the Ryder Cup for the second time in history. 'The previous experience at Valderrama in 1997 was extraordinary. The economic impact, media coverage and more importantly, the legacy to our sport, tourism and awareness of golf in our country were unbelievable.'
