US singer Brown granted $A10 million bail by UK court
US singer Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London court over a charge of serious assault after promising to pay a multimillion pound security fee, clearing the way for his world tour to begin next month.
Brown has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm in what prosecutors said was an "unprovoked attack" on music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle in a London nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old has not yet been asked to enter a plea to the charge.
He was not present at Southwark Crown Court when Judge Tony Baumgartner granted him bail with a five million-pound ($A10 million) security fee.
The R&B star, a two-time Grammy Award winner known for hits such as Loyal, Run It and Under the Influence, is set to kick off his Breezy Bowl XX tour on June 8 in the Netherlands.
Brown was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, northern England last week after returning to the United Kingdom for the first time since the incident two years ago.
He was initially refused bail on Friday, but was granted bail on Wednesday on the condition he pay four million pounds with a further one million pounds due in seven days.
Brown was also required to surrender his passport, except for when he is travelling for his tour.
He will next appear at London's Southwark Crown Court on June 20.

The Project host Waleed Aly left stunned after Ice-T roasts him live on-air: 'Real life square'
Waleed Aly copped a brutal on-air roasting from none other than American rap icon Ice-T during Tuesday night's episode of The Project. The 46-year-old Melbourne-based broadcaster interviewed the Grammy Award-winning artist about his new film Zombie Plane, which is currently being filmed on the Gold Coast. "Wonderful to have you on the show Mr T, and congratulations on this film," Waleed said, as Ice-T joined the program via video link. "I have to ask- we watched a little bit of, I don't know what it was, frankly, because it looked bonkers. Did you know what you were signing up for?" Ice-T laughed, replying: "Uh, not really, I mean, I got the offer, they called me and said 'Would you like to come down to Australia to do a zombie movie?', I'm like, 'Nah, I'm good'. "And then my daughter was like, 'C'mon daddy, zombies, zombies, we love zombie movies'," he said, adding that his wife, TV personality and model Coco Austin, also encouraged him to take the role. "So I'm on a plane, next thing I know I'm on my way Down Under. So here I am." Waleed tried to keep things light with a cheeky question: "What is it with rappers and ice? Like, what, there's T, Cube (referencing Ice Cube), Vanilla, why?" The 67-year-old rapper, whose real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow, bluntly responded: "Everybody wants to be cool. You know what I'm saying? "Being ice is the epitome of cool. "I'm Ice-T and I'm not iced tea to drink, I'm Ice capital T. My name starts with a T, my real name is Tracy." He added: "So, you know, I was like considered Cool T. I was named after Iceberg Slim. My friends call me Iceberg. They call me Berg." Then cohost Sam Taunton chimed in, asking if people who have to ask that kind of question might actually not be that cool. Without missing a beat, Ice-T replied: "Yeah. I would say that. "That's kind of a question you get from a real life square." The brutal but hilarious comeback left panellists Georgie Tunny and Kate Langbroek in fits of laughter, while Taunton admitted he was "dying" from the deadpan takedown of Aly. In the film, which also stars Chuck Norris, Vanilla Ice, and Australia's own Sophie Monk, Ice-T said he plays a no-nonsense "general" who is called in to handle chaos in the skies. "I'm the guy they call about this plane, and I'm on a yacht on vacation with my wife when I get this call about the zombies from Chuck Norris," he explained, though he kept the rest of the plot under wraps. "I let them know that they better handle these zombies in the plane or I'm going to blow that plane right out of the sky." Zombie Plane is set to hit Aussie cinemas later this year.

Manawatu Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham said Satterthwaite suffered a serious head injury when tackled and was taken to hospital by his friends. 'The tackle game played by the group of friends was based on a social media-driven trend, where participants compete in full-contact collisions without protective gear. While this was an impromptu game among friends, not a planned event, this tragic outcome does highlight the inherent safety concerns with such an activity.' Grantham said police urged anyone thinking about taking part in a game or event like this to 'consider the significant safety and injury risks'. 'While this is not a criminal matter, police will continue to undertake enquiries on behalf of the coroner,' he said. 'Born to go viral' The run it straight game originated overseas, through the Australian-based RUNIT Championship League competition. 'Born to go viral, built to break limits, it has taken social media by storm with tens of millions of views,' RUNIT's website says. The competition is built around actions seen in rugby union, rugby league, the NFL and AFL. Opposing individuals – a ball runner and a tackler – stand at each end of a 20m x 4m field, and run full speed at each other with the goal of trying to bowl each other over. 'It is very clear from the number of concussions from the small number of running-at-each-other events that have occurred that this is going to result in a death.' Patria Hume, AUT RUNIT Championship League released a statement to Stuff on Tuesday afternoon after news of Satterthwaite's death was made public, saying it did 'not encourage any copying of the sport as it should only be done under the strict conditions'. 'This is tragic news, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of Ryan. Any contact sport like boxing, martial arts or combat-style activities should only be held in highly controlled environments, which include professional medical supervision and support.' The statement went on to say 'all RUNIT events follow established protocols including screening of participants for suitability, strict guidelines around where and how to tackle (between the shoulders and hips only), with qualified medical support and medical assessments conducted both during and after competition'. Two RUNIT trials were held at Trusts Arena in West Auckland last week, which saw one man's body convulse on the ground after being hit, and another knocked out. Loading Patria Hume, professor of Human Performance at AUT, said those organising 'run it straight' events were buying brains and bodies for entertainment with 'no thought for the healthcare of the athletes'. 'It is very clear from the number of concussions from the small number of running-at-each-other events that have occurred that this is going to result in a death.' Two similar events, called Run It Straight, were expected to be held in Mangere and Mt Albert in Auckland, but were cancelled after organisers failed to secure any permits, despite telling social media they were not allowed by 'council' and 'parliament'.
