Bengaluru Man Praises Odisha Plumber's Efforts To Speak Kannada: ‘Behaved Professionally'
The man shared how impressed he was with the plumber's effort to communicate in Kannada even though he wasn't a native speaker.
In the midst of ongoing debates about non-native Kannada speakers in Karnataka, a Bengaluru resident's social media post has gone viral for a positive reason.
The post highlights a plumber from Odisha who, while on the job, made a genuine effort to speak Kannada. Booked through Urban Company, the plumber impressed the customer not only with his punctuality but also by communicating in beginner-level Kannada, openly admitting he was still learning the language. This gesture has sparked positive conversations amid the language debate.
The post on X (formerly Twitter) read: 'Today the plumber whom I booked from Urban company said working in Bengaluru from past two years, Already spoke decent beginner Kannada, and said still learning. He was from Odisha, was on time and behaved professionally. This I have observed in workers from that state."

Soon, the comments section flooded with users sharing their own stories of non-native speakers making sincere efforts to learn and use Kannada.
Another added, 'Agreed. We had gone to a resort, and the guys working there also from Odisha, were able to converse with us in Kannada. They have been here for a little over 2 years."
'We too recently got introduced to an Oria plumber. Living in Bengaluru for 15 years or so. Unless he tells you, can't make out he's not a local… spoke flawless Kannada," someone else wrote.
'They are hard workers. Seen them before their best self, wherever I've seen them. Chennai or Bangalore. Blue collar or white collar. Professional," read another comment.
A video of a Tibetan man speaking fluent Kannada on the streets of Bengaluru also gained widespread attention recently. The middle-aged man, speaking as part of a vox pop, shared how Kannada had become an everyday part of his life.
'I know many Tibetans who speak Kannada more than their mother tongue. Locals respect me a lot when I speak in Kannada. They feel proud that an outsider has made the effort to learn their language," he said in the clip.
After drinking Kaveri water you speak Kannada automatically. This statement is not true for our fellow North Indians. #StopHindiImposition. pic.twitter.com/WWTJ8HGgt3 — Dr Prisha Sargam (@PrishaSargam) June 14, 2025
The highlight of the video was his take on the common excuse many use – 'Kannada gottilla" (I don't know Kannada). He replied, 'There's no such thing as 'Kannada gottilla.' After drinking Kaveri water, you automatically start speaking Kannada." Many people praised the man and called it a great example of respecting local language and culture.

Haritha Mithram 2.0 application for waste collection promises better monitoring and online payment facilities
The Local self government department has readied Haritha Mithram 2.0, the improved version of the mobile application for doorstep collection of waste, with online payment facilities, better monitoring of doorstep waste collection, Malayalam language support and integration with the KSMART system. The pilot run of the new application is ongoing in 30 local bodies. The implementation of the online payment system is expected to bring transparency in user fee collection. The Haritha Karma Sena (HKS) members deployed for waste collection will also have a more user-friendly interface to deal with in the new application. The department organised a training programme for HKS members to familiarise them with the upgraded application. Along with Malayalam, work is ongoing to add more languages including Tamil and Kannada to the application. The department is now mapping all buildings in the State through KSMART to the Haritha Mithram application to ensure complete waste collection coverage. The application provides an option for common collection facilities for flat complexes and industrial establishments. In such cases, a common bill will be generated for the entire complex. Another new option is the availability of on demand services, which would allow the public to get services outside the regular calendar of the HKS. Currently, the various kinds of waste including cloth and glass are collected only in specific months. Through the new application, people can demand collection of specific kinds of waste on payment of a fixed fee. This particular feature will be implemented only as per the decisions of the respective local body and HKS unit in each area. In the next update of the application, the residents will get notification on the upcoming waste collection date and time, as well as contact information of the HKS worker who will collect the waste. Since the new application and data in it are completely cloud-based, some of the technical issues associated with the previous version are expected to be addressed. The Haritha Mithram 2.0 application will be formally launched in Thiruvananthapuram on August 20.

Fired by Elon Musk, ex-Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal launches AI startup, Deep Research API
Former Chief Executive Officer of Twitter (now known as X), Parag Agrawal, in a social media post announced that he has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) venture named 'Deep Research API' in efforts to take over ChatGPT in the world AI development race. In the post, Agrawal said that the first goal of the venture is to 'outperform' both humans and all leading models including GPT-5 from Open AI. He also called the target two of the hardest benchmarks to beat in the industry. "We launched our Deep Research API - it's the first to outperform both humans and all leading models including GPT-5 on two of the hardest benchmarks," said Agrawal in his post on LinkedIn. The former Twitter boss also highlighted that his company is already powering millions of research tasks on a daily basis for ambitious startups and public enterprise companies. Parag Agrawal is the founder of the AI startup, Parallel Web Systems Inc., which is based in Palo Alto, California, United States. He said that the company offers automation facilities which companies use to carry out traditionally-human workflows with 'exceeding human-level accuracy. "We already power millions of research tasks every day, across ambitious startups and public enterprises," said Agrawal in his post. Parag Agrawal is well-known in the industry for serving as the CEO of the social media giant, Twitter. Elon Musk fired Agrawal after taking over the company in 2022. Agrawal started out his career as a Researcher at Microsoft in 2006, and after a few months, he shifted to the same position at Yahoo. In 2009, he again returned to Microsoft Corp.; however, after a brief run with the company, he joined the US-based telecom giant, AT&T. In October 2011, Agrawal finally joined Twitter as a Distinguished Software Engineer and after serving for over six years, he became the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the global giant. Ex-Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, Fired By Elon Musk, Launches New Startup
Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has introduced Parallel Web Systems Inc., a cloud platform built to help artificial intelligence systems conduct large-scale online research. Mr Agrawal, who was fired by billionaire Elon Musk after he took over Twitter (now known as X) in 2022, founded Parallel in 2023 and has since assembled a 25-member team in Palo Alto. The company has already secured $30 million in funding from marquee investors, including Khosla Ventures, First Round Capital, and Index Ventures. "We already power millions of research tasks every day, across ambitious startups and public enterprises," Mr Agarwal wrote on LinkedIn. "Some of the fastest growing AI companies use Parallel to bring web intelligence directly into their platform and agents. A public company automates traditionally-human workflows exceeding human-level accuracy with Parallel. Coding agents rely on our search to find docs and debug issues," he added. Parallel has also announced the launch of its Deep Research API, which Mr Agrawal says is the first to outperform both humans and leading models, including GPT-5, on two of the most challenging benchmarks. Inside Parallel Parag Agrawal's new startup, Parallel, is betting on the idea that the internet, as it exists today, was built for people but the next era belongs to artificial intelligence. In a blog post, the company said: The web is humanity's memory. The open internet has enabled publishing, learning, and collaboration at scale. It is the foundation on which modern AI was trained. AI is becoming the web's primary user. Unlike humans, who browse a few pages or run short searches, AIs might comb through entire databases, spend hours processing information, or pull facts instantly at massive scale. Old business models won't work. Today's web relies on human attention like clicks, ads, paywalls, and gated APIs. But these models aren't designed for machine use, and they risk locking valuable knowledge behind silos. A "Programmatic Web" for AIs. Parallel argues the internet must evolve into a system designed for machines, one that supports reasoning, computation, and verified sources. Key Principles Of Parallel The company outlines key principles of this new web: Unified infrastructure combining data, compute, and reasoning, producing insights and actions instead of just static documents. Declarative interfaces where AIs say what they need, and the system decides how to get it. Transparent attribution so every source is credited, and contributions can be measured. Open markets where value is rewarded economically, ensuring openness thrives not just by goodwill but by financial incentives. Parallel frames this as either the web adapting to serve its "second user" (AI) or it risks breaking apart. How Parallel Will Work Parallel is creating a version of the internet built for AI. Instead of humans clicking and searching, AIs will be able to ask for information directly, and Parallel's system will gather, process, and organise it. It will also give credit to sources and reward those who contribute. In short, Parallel makes it easier and fairer for AIs to use the web to find answers and create insights. Parallel's mission is about "building for abundance".
