Fourth former Drake Bulldog commits to Iowa basketball
Isaia Howard announced his commitment to Iowa basketball on Thursday, becoming the fourth former Drake Bulldog to follow head coach Ben McCollum to Iowa City as a new member of the Hawkeyes.
Howard arrives with three seasons of eligibility and dons the black and gold after a freshman season at Drake in which he averaged 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. The 6-foot-5, 200 pound guard shot 43.5% from the field, including 31.1% from 3-point range.

Howard played in 30 games and scored in double figures on three occasions, including his career-high 21-point outing against Southern Illinois on March 7 in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinal.
A native of Plattsburg, Mo., Howard was ranked as a three-star signee to Drake in the 2024 class per 247Sports. 247Sports ranked Howard as the nation's No. 67 shooting guard and as the No. 10 player from Missouri.
Howard joins a Hawkeye roster that features a trio of his former Drake teammates in guards Bennett Stirtz and Kael Combs and in forward Cam Manyawu.
Iowa also brings back sophomore forward Cooper Koch, who decided upon a return to Iowa after briefly entering the transfer portal. Koch appeared in 10 games, averaging 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 42.9% from 3-point range.

Stirtz was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year last season after posting averages of 19.2 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49.8% from the field and 39.5% from 3-point range.
Manyawu averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game on 57.8% shooting from the field while starting all 35 games for the Bulldogs last season.
Lastly, Combs played in 31 games last season at Drake, averaging 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1% from the field and 80.0% from the free throw line.

The North Carolina Tar Heels' baseball program will be playing for its season on Monday in Chapel Hill. A few walks and then an error allowed Oklahoma to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Sooners didn't look back, grabbing the lead for good. The Sooners got a two-run home run, a double and a single to plate five in that inning, which was the backbreaker for the Tar Heels. Although UNC answered back with two runs in the top of the seventh, the Sooners plated one run in the seventh and eighth innings. They also kept UNC scoreless in the eighth after the Tar Heels loaded the bases with no outs, threatening to tie or take the lead. UNC's pitching struggled, walking nine batters as the Tar Heels used starter Aidan Haugh and five relievers throughout the game. Haugh gave up just the one earned run in 3.2 innings pitched. The Tar Heels' lineup also struggled as the two through six hitters had just four hits with Gallaher having three of those hits. The loss now forces the winner-take-all game on Monday in Chapel Hill with the winner punching their ticket to the super regional. Due to NCAA rules, Oklahoma will be designated as the home team. Longhorns offer top recruit in 2027 class
On Sunday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns were busy on the recruiting trail. They made offers to multiple prospects in the 2027 class, including talented defensive back Eli Johnson. The Texas native has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the nation, and now the Longhorns have entered the mix. At the moment, Johnson has received offers from Houston, Florida State, Colorado State, California, and Baylor. He is ranked as the 14th-best safety and the 24th player from the Lone star state in his class by 247Sports. That could change over the next few months, as Johnson has not set a commitment date. Advertisement While many schools are still in the mix, Johnson did not hide his excitement about receiving an offer from Texas on social media. In a post on his X account, the Steele High School product said, " Beyond blessed to receive my 20th offer from Texas Football." The Longhorns 2027 class only has one commitment so far in Taven Epps. The four-star recruit is ranked as the fifth-best linebacker in his class. If Johnson chose Texas, a defense that includes Epps and Johnson would make life hard for offensive coordinators. Although the Longhorns still have plenty of time to add talent, they have made their interest in Johnson clear. Their next step will be to get Johnson to campus for a visit. That will give Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff a chance to provide Johnson with a preview of what his future could hold as a Longhorn. MSU's newest commit, 3-star LB Braylon Hodge reportedly cancels remaining official visits Michigan State picked up a commitment from a prized linebacker prospect on Sunday, and it appears he is locked in with the Spartans for the long haul. High-end three-star linebacker Braylon Hodge of Englewood, Colo. committed to Michigan State on Sunday afternoon following his official visit to the Spartans' campus. As part of that commitment, Justin Thind of 247Sports is reporting that Hodge will cancel his other previously scheduled official visits to Iowa, Utah and Minnesota. Thind considered this as "impressive" on the Spartans' part and added that Hodge's commitment was a "great start to June" for Michigan State. Hodge ranks as the No. 45 linebacker in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. He holds a recruiting rating of 88 -- which is close to being a four-star prospect -- and is a top player in the state of Colorado. Like Thind, I found this additional report on the cancelling of Hodge's other official visits as notable. This was the first official visit Hodge took, and with no other official visits planned now, it seems like Michigan State will be in a great position to retain this commitment all the way to signing day in December.
