Caio Collet Paces Practice at WWTR; Dennis Hauger Fifth
INDYCAR
Caio Collet sent a message to the INDY NXT by Firestone field by leading pre-qualifying practice Saturday afternoon at World Wide Technology Raceway.
2024 series Rookie of the Year Collet, from Brazil, was fastest at 164.630 mph in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. He is seeking his first victory of the season as the INDYCAR development series contests its first oval race of 2025.

Veteran Myles Rowe was second at 163.871 in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car, followed by rookie Lochie Hughes at 163.648 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship machine of Andretti Global. Veteran Callum Hedge was fourth at 163.436 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports car.
Championship leader Dennis Hauger of Andretti Global rounded out the top five at 162.980 in the No. 28 Nammo car.
Rookies Hauger and Hughes have combined to win all five races this season, with Hauger capturing four checkered flags to take a 38-point lead in the standings over Hughes.
Up next today is qualifying at 7 p.m. ET on FS2, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network. The 75-lap race starts at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).

Shohei Ohtani has hit two homers against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night, emphatically ending the three-time MVP's longest homer drought since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dodgers fans brought him home with a standing ovation as Ohtani produced his third multihomer game of the season and the 22nd of his career. Ohtani reached base four times and scored three runs in his first four at-bats, drawing two walks to go with his two homers. Ohtani hadn't played in 10 straight games without hitting a homer since 2023 in the final 10 games of his six-year tenure with the Los Angeles Angels. Ohtani had slowed down a bit over the past two weeks after he was named the National League Player of the Month for May with a formidable performance, racking up 15 homers and 28 RBIs. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami were held to a scoreless draw against Egypt's Al Ahly in the opening game of the Club World Cup on Saturday night. In front of more than 60,000 fans at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami survived a first-half onslaught by 12-time African champion Al Ahly, who was denied a potential winning goal from the penalty spot when Mahmoud Trezeguet's effort was stopped by goalkeeper Oscar Ustari. Will Power: 'I sent it' to snatch pole position for IndyCar WWTR oval night race
Will Power laid down a 49.9088s qualifying effort with a 180.329mph two-lap average to claim pole for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. The result was Power's fifth pole on the 1.25-mile oval and his 71st overall, extending his record for indy car racing poles. It was the two-time IndyCar champion's first time topping the charts in qualifying since Aug. 2024 at Portland International Raceway. Power's strategy was simple. Advertisement 'I sent it a lot,' Power said of his run. 'I knew you would have to. You'd have to try to be flat in (turns) 3 and 4. Which I wasn't quite flat, but very, very close. 'Cool, man. Cool. It's been a while since I've had a pole, so I'm really excited for the Verizon 12 car. Chevy did a great job, good power. Hopefully we can execute in the race. It'd be awesome to get a win here.' It'll be an all-Team Penske front row, continuing a day of strength for the organization after Josef Newgarden led opening practice. Scott McLaughlin fell just .1515s shy of Power in an earlier run. Newgarden couldn't match his teammates in qualifying, but ended up a strong fifth at session's end. As qualifying unfolded The company is looking for its first win of 2025, hoping to break a season-long sweep for Honda drivers Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood. Chevrolet will have many frontrunners looking to break through at Gateway. The Bowtie brand claimed the top-five qualifiers on Saturday, with Pato O'Ward, David Malukas and Newgarden capping off the top-five. That's exactly where the oil dry is, and a bunch of sand. Our safety team does a great job doing that, but it's still slick.' It'll be a late evening for the IndyCar field.
