Yankees trade Oswald Peraza to Angels in end to failed Bronx stint

Oswald Peraza's failed Yankees tenure is over. They traded him to the Angels just ahead of the deadline on Thursday, The Post's Joel Sherman confirmed, in exchange for outfield prospect Wilberson De Pena and international money. Peraza, still just 25, had been one of the Yankees' top prospects in recent years – No. 2 in 2022 and No. 3 in 2023, per MLB Pipeline – but has struggled mightily in the majors. Advertisement Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post Now, he gets a shot to salvage his career on the West Coast. After the Yankees DFA'd DJ LeMahieu earlier this month, Peraza got a run of starts at third base with an opportunity to win the job. Advertisement But he had brutal production at the plate and made several mistakes in the field, doing nothing to prove he can be a long-term answer at the position. And the Yankees' decision to acquire third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Rockies meant Peraza's role was again diminished. For the season, Peraza has a woeful .152/.212/.241 slash line with a .452 OPS. Advertisement In 429 career plate appearances with the Yankees, Peraza had a .190 batting average. The 18-year-old Pena has a .211/.296/.451 slash line with a .747 OPS in 31 games in the Dominican Summer League this year.

Amed Rosario trade: Yankees acquire former Mets player ahead of MLB trade deadline

NEW YORK – The versatile Amed Rosario will be part of the Yankees' pennant drive. Late Saturday the Yankees confirmed the trade, first reported by Jack Curry of the YES Network, that landed Rosario from the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-hander Clayton Beeter and a minor leaguer. Rosario, 29, has played third base, second base, shortstop and right field this season, and he's even made a pitching appearance. As a utility player, Rosario gives the Yankees a better offensive presence than Oswald Peraza, providing a needed right-handed bat as an occasional starter or off the bench. In 46 games this year for Washington, Rosario batted .270 with five homers, 18 RBI and a .736 OPS. Rosario will be a free agent at the end of this season. In addition to Beeter, the Yankees sent outfielder Browm Martinez to Washington. Martinez, 18, was batting .404 in 18 games this year the Dominican Summer League, with three homers and 16 RBI. Converted to a reliever, Beeter, 26, appeared in five games for the Yankees since 2024, yielding eight runs in 7.1 innings. The right-hander was originally acquired by the Yanks at the 2022 trade deadline in a deal that sent Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Over the past couple of years, the Yankees have shown interest in acquiring Rosario, one of the key figures in the January 2021 trade that sent Francisco Lindor from Cleveland to the Mets. With the MLB trade deadline arriving Thursday at 6 p.m., the Yankees will mostly be busy searching for bullpen help and an impact starting pitcher. On Friday, the Yankees acquired lefty-hitting third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for two minor league pitchers.
