13th Edition of Tiger Cup 2025, Supported by Cycle Pure Agarbathi, Kicks Off with Debut of Girls' League
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 25: Cycle Pure Agarbathi inaugurates the 13th edition of the Tiger Cup 2025, a cricket tournament for the under 12, under 14 and under-16 category, in Bengaluru today. Scheduled to take place from April 21 to May 13, the tournament has also announced the launch of a girls' cricket tournament as an initiative to provide a platform and groom young cricketers. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of a 6-feet Agarbathi by the girls who will be participating in the tournament and Principal Dr. Bhimasen Soragaon, Dean Welfare, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Admin officer Veeresh C S from JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bengaluru, alongside Cricket Expert Joseph Hoover.
Featuring under-12, under-14, and under-16 categories, matches today started at JSS Academy of Technical Education with teams from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Dharwad, Koppal and Belgaum participating. The tournament continues its aim of nurturing young cricketing talent and promoting the sport in the region.
Created by renowned cricket players, Sandeep Patil, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan, the Tiger Cup Tournament is one of the most coveted events that brings 56 talented teams together, including over 900 players from all around India. The 13th edition of the Tiger Cup 2025 will be dedicated to raising awareness on the importance of conserving wildlife, with the proceeds of the event donated towards forest foot soldiers for their commendable service in protecting the forests and wildlife in the country.
Held annually, the event will not only commemorate and celebrate the talents of young players, but through the partnership with Cycle Pure Agarbathi, will also felicitate forest staff. As part of this, it has contributed Rs. 4 lakh towards the felicitation, with Rs. 1 lakh each awarded to 2 forest staff from Karnataka, 1 from Kerala, and 1 from Tamil Nadu, recognizing their dedication to wildlife conservation. Additionally, Rs. 1 lakh has been an extended support to encourage the participation of girls through the newly introduced girls' categories this year in the Tiger Cup 2025.

Mandatory Event Details and Safety Measures Event organisers are now required to submit a comprehensive application for an event permit. This application must include detailed information on the purpose of the event, the anticipated crowd size, clear outline of the safety measures and protocols that will be implemented to ensure the crowd's well-being and prevent any mishaps. The new law gives district magistrates the authority to postpone, cancel, or change the venue of an event if there's a risk of public unrest or breach of peace. The bill also includes stringent penalties for violations. Organisers who fail to comply with the law may face imprisonment for up to three years and fines up to Rs 5 lakh. In cases of injury or death due to negligence, the organiser is liable to pay compensation. Torch relay of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan kicks off from Sangrur, to conclude at Hoshiarpur on Aug 29
The torch relay for the Punjab government's sports festival, Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, commenced Wednesday from War Heroes Stadium, Sangrur. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandeep Rishi flagged off the relay. On the occasion, veteran athlete and chairman of Market Committee Dhuri, Rajwant Singh Ghulli, SDM Sangrur Charanjot Singh Walia, District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh, along with a large number of players and the general public, were present. During the relay, the torch was carried through the city by international athletes including Parmjeet Kaur (handball), Gursewak Singh Cheema and Dakshnu Singh (roller skating), Harshdeep Kaur (weightlifting), along with several other state-level players. Rishi informed that the opening ceremony of the games will be held on August 29 at Hoshiarpur. The torch relay will travel across all districts of Punjab before culminating at Hoshiarpur on August 29. The schedule for block, district, and state-level games has already been released. Competitions will be held between September 3 and November 23, 2025 at various stadiums in the villages, towns, and cities across Punjab. It is noteworthy that, like previous years, more than five lakh players across 37 sports disciplines and nine age categories will compete for medals this year. Winners will receive cash prizes worth over Rs 9 crore. Last year, para-athletics, badminton, and powerlifting were also included under the para category of these games. Sharing the route plan, the DC stated that the relay will cover the following districts: Sangrur, Barnala, and Mansa (August 20); Bathinda and Sri Muktsar Sahib (August 21); Fazilka and Faridkot (August 22); Ferozepur and Tarn Taran (August 23); Sri Amritsar Sahib and Gurdaspur (August 24); Pathankot, Kapurthala, and Jalandhar (August 25); Moga and Ludhiana (August 26); Malerkotla, Patiala, and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib (August 27); Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Rupnagar (August 28); and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar before concluding at Hoshiarpur (August 29). The DC added that the purpose of organising such a large-scale sports festival is to 'channelise the immense energy of youth in a positive direction', keeping them away from the menace of drugs and provide support to the Punjab government's ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign. Moreover, the games will give young boys and girls an opportunity to further develop their sporting talent, Rishi said. He appealed to the youth of Sangrur to actively participate in these games.

AIFF's government funding slashed by half as Sports Ministry awards massive hike to yoga
Football has been among the biggest losers in Indian sport when it comes to receiving government funding, its allocation coming down to Rs 8.78 crore from Rs 15 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 30 crore in 2019-20. Yoga, on the other hand, has received a hike of nearly 400 per cent from the sports ministry. PTI Yoga emerged the biggest beneficiary of the Government of India's allocation of budget for various sports, receiving a hike of nearly 400 per cent compared to what it was receiving in 2022-23. Football, a sport that is perceived to be in a state of crisis in the cricket-mad nation, were in for another blow with their financial assistance slashed by half. Sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed the figures during the ongoing monsoon session of the parliament, responding to a question from BJP MP Sadanand Tanavade in the Rajya Sabha. Besides yoga and football, table tennis received a 50 per cent hike while athletics received a minor reduction in their assistance. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Yogasana India had been receiving Rs 1.3 crore in 2022-23, but are now set to receive Rs 4.89 crore – which is close to the Rs 5.2 crore that has been set aside for the All India Chess Federation. At the same time, it will be getting a higher share of the government funding pie compared to basketball (Rs 4.75 crore in 2024-25), volleyball (Rs 4.39 crore) and squash (Rs 4.45 crore). 'As a federation, we started getting funding very recently from the government. Unlike many other sports that have come to India from abroad, we are taking India's heritage to the world. For that, we need to do substantial work,' Yogasana India president Udit Sheth was quoted by The Indian Express as saying. The Kalyan Chaubey-led All India Football Federation – which currently finds itself mired in crisis over the fate of the Indian Super League – witnessed its government funding reduced by nearly half from Rs 15 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 8.78 crore in 2024-25. This is, after all, the same sport that used to receive Rs 30 crore from the Centre not too long ago (2019-20). Athletics and boxing have had minor reductions as well. The allocation for the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) currently stands at Rs 26 crore from Rs 30 crore in 2022-23 while the corresponding figure for the Boxing Federation of India stands at Rs 22 crore from Rs 24 crore in 2022-23. Yoga is a demonstration sport at next year's Asian Games in Japan and will also likely be included in the 2030 Commonwealth Games should India win the hosting rights for the event. The push in the yoga budget might have been made keeping this events in mind.
