Indian national to be charged in Singapore over alleged molestation of cabin crew member
KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — A 20-year-old Indian national is set to be charged in Singapore today for allegedly molesting a female cabin crew member during a flight bound for the city-state earlier this year.
According to The Straits Times, the incident occurred on February 28 and was reported to the police at 12.05pm upon the flight's arrival at Changi Airport. A police statement issued on April 21 detailed that the 28-year-old crew member was escorting a female passenger to the lavatory when she noticed a piece of tissue on the floor.
As she bent down to pick it up, the man allegedly appeared behind her, grabbed her, and pushed her into the lavatory. The situation was diffused when the female passenger intervened and helped the crew member out of the lavatory immediately.
The matter was escalated to the cabin supervisor, and the man was subsequently arrested by officers from the Airport Police Division upon landing. The airline involved in the incident has not been disclosed.
Police said the man will face charges of using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, an offence under Singapore law that carries a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any combination of these.
In a statement, Airport Police Division Commander Assistant Commissioner M. Malathi said that such incidents are taken seriously, emphasising the important role of cabin crew in ensuring passenger safety and well-being.
The accused's court appearance is scheduled for later today.

Subsequent investigations uncovered that Lai had committed similar offences against at least 10 other women. "Over 100 voyeuristic images were found in a password-protected folder on his phone. "Lai told investigators he would transfer the images into the secure folder, which would then delete them automatically from his photo gallery. He admitted to viewing the images when alone at home or in the toilet." Lai's lawyer, Low Chun Yee, said in mitigation that his client had only recently married and was awaiting the keys to his Build-To-Order (BTO) flat. "He is fully aware that what he did was wrong and has since sought voluntary treatment. He intends to continue with therapy," Low said. District Judge John Ng, in passing sentence, noted the pattern of Lai's offending behaviour and the number of images found during the investigation. The judge emphasised that such offences are notoriously difficult to detect and stressed the importance of sending a strong deterrent message to others. The Toyota pickup was ferrying three passengers. In photos from China Press, the right side of the grey Myvi's front bumper and headlamp are seen to be badly damaged. The car is parked on a patch of grass next to the road. The photos show that at least two of the tourists required assistance and were wearing neck or leg braces. The Myvi driver was unharmed, China Press reported. The driver of the pickup truck had driven away from the location of the accident in an apparent attempt to escape, according to the report. Two women arrested after theft spree at Changi Airport transit area
The theft spree took place at the departure transit area of Changi Airport's Terminal 3. - ST SINGAPORE: Two women transiting through Changi Airport were arrested for a series of shop thefts allegedly committed at different stores. In a statement on Monday (June 9), the police said they were alerted to a suspected case of theft from a Furla outlet at the departure transit area of Terminal 3 on June 2 at about 2.25pm. A purse was allegedly stolen, and through the use of closed-circuit television camera footage, officers from the Airport Police Division identified and found the two women involved inside an hour. The women, aged 29 and 30, and both Indian nationals, were detained before they could leave the country. The stolen purse was found on the younger woman, and a black haversack and a bottle of perfume - both also allegedly stolen based on preliminary investigations - in the luggage of the older woman. The three items had a total value of S$635. The women are expected to be charged in court on June 10 for theft in dwelling. If convicted, they can be jailed up to seven years, fined, or both. 'The police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft,' the statement said, adding that the police take a serious view of shop thefts.
