Targeted Tesla attacks continue amid outrage at Elon Musk

Yahoo07-03-2025
(NewsNation) — Some of Elon Musk's detractors have made their feelings known in recent weeks, with the latest critic using a gun to show their displeasure with the Tesla CEO.
Some Tesla showrooms, dealerships and charging stations have been set on fire or vandalized in other ways, ostensibly in protest of Musk's role with the Trump administration.
The latest violence occurred in Tigard, Oregon, just outside Portland, where police are investigating vandalism involving gunfire.
Is Elon Musk getting paid for DOGE?
On Wednesday, at least seven bullets tore into the dealership in an overnight attack, damaging three cars and shattering windows. No one was injured, and so far, there have been no arrests.
In another incident, police have a 41-year-old man in custody in Oregon after he allegedly targeted a dealership in Salem, causing major damage with Molotov cocktails in January and then opening fire with an AR 15-style rifle last month.
Oregon has been a hotbed for protests against Musk and Tesla and a growing grassroots movement called 'Tesla Takedown,' which encourages people to 'stop Musk now' by selling their Teslas, among other actions.
Despite his opposition to Musk, one protestor told NewsNation that he disagrees with any violent protests.
'We who served in the military said to give you that right (to protest), but not to up and destroy and shoot and burn and wherever no go,' he said.
Trump limits Musk's power as federal workforce concerns grow
'Protest, stand up, scream and holler, get your bull horn out, go do your thing. But no violence.'
Protests across the country have been largely peaceful, but there have been multiple arrests for vandalism and disorderly conduct.
The anti-Elon movement also has some people getting rid of their Teslas, including singer Sheryl Crow, who posted a video to social media last month announcing that proceeds from the sale of her car are going to NPR.

West Virginia deploys National Guard to Washington

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R) said Saturday that National Guard troops from his state would aid the Trump administration's federal police takeover in Washington to help 'make D.C. safe and beautiful.' Morrisey announced the Mountain State would deploy '300-400 skilled personnel' to serve in the nation's capital at the Trump administration's request. 'West Virginia is proud to stand with President Trump in his effort to restore pride and beauty to our nation's capital,' the governor said in a press release. 'The men and women of our National Guard represent the best of our state, and this mission reflects our shared commitment to a strong and secure America.' Trump earlier this week invoked a provision in Washington's Home Rule Act to launch a crackdown on crime in the district, deploying more than 800 National Guard soldiers and federal officers to patrol the streets of D.C. West Virginia Maj. Gen. James Seward told The Hill's sister network NewsNation that the mission 'aligns with our values of service and dedication to our communities.' 'We stand ready to support our partners in the National Capital Region and contribute to the collective effort of making our nation's capital a clean and safe environment,' Seward continued. 'The National Guard's unique capabilities and preparedness make it an invaluable partner in this important undertaking.' The White House also celebrated the addition of troops. 'The National Guard will protect federal assets, create a safe environment for law enforcement officials to carry out their duties when required, and provide a visible presence to deter crime,' a White House senior official said of the West Virginia National Guard deployment, per NewsNation. Trump administration officials touted in recent days that hundreds have been arrested, and dozens of firearms seized since the federal takeover. The Justice Department's (DOJ) decision to name Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief Terry Cole as the Metropolitan Police Department's (MPD) 'emergency police commissioner' was also heavily criticized as an overreach of the law. DOJ has since walked back the designation after D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb sued the administration. Trump told reporters earlier this week that he hopes to ramp up operations in the district and announced plans to work with Congress to extend the 30-day takeover allotted in the standing law. Amid the controversy, D.C. Mayor Bowser (D) has sought to calm tensions among local residents, who have protested the administration's show of force. 'It has been an unsettling and unprecedented week in our city. Over the course of a week, the surge in federal law enforcement across DC has created waves of anxiety,' she wrote in an open letter. 'I was born one year before Home Rule became law, and while our autonomy has been challenged before, our limited self-government has never faced the type of test we are facing right now.' 'My jobs are many right now. Part of my job is just managing us through this crisis and making sure that our government continues to operate in a way that makes DC residents proud,' she added.

4 trends among retail investors according to Robinhood's CIO

Institutional investors are feeling more bullish, but where does overall retail investor sentiment sit? Robinhood's (HOOD) chief investment officer, Stephanie Guild, joins Market Domination to share some of the key trends she's noticed among retail traders, including Nvidia (NVDA) and Tesla (TSLA) being the most common stocks traded by bears and bulls alike. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Market Domination. Bank of America is out with its most bullish fund manager survey since February with lower probabilities of a hard landing and equity allocations on the rise. That survey records how institutional investors are feeling, but we want to talk about retail traders and how they're feeling in the stock market today. So with me is Steph Guilds, Robin Hood Chief Investment Officer. So Steph, when you look at some trends that on the Robin Hood platform, what sticks out to you? What are you noticing? Uh, a couple things. One is, Tesla and Nvidia continue to be like the most popularly traded, no matter no matter what side. Um, more recently we've been seeing, um, a trend of, I don't want to say it's meme stocks, but you know, the the theme of the dorks that came out of, you know, a few weeks ago, like Open Door, for example, that started being something that we we saw a rise in popularity on our platform. Um, but overarching all that continues to be the that our customers really do kind of create take core positions and then trade around the volatility. So what that has meant is, um, Eli Lilly, right? Like not a great quarter, ended up being a top buy, um, Tesla top sell. You know, it was up like $20 in the last week or $40 I think actually in the last week. Um, so they do tend to do that. I'd say on the crypto side it's been, ETH is starting to be a little more rising popularity, but, um, Ripple has been the most popular over the last few weeks. Um, we're also seeing like we have something called the Robin Hood Investor Index. And so that tracks kind of ownership over time. And about 20% of the index is in some sort of AI or AI related names. So you have like, you know, that over other overarching theme is that our clients tend to be able to invest in a secular trend over time. Is that low or is it is relative to the past? It used to be lower, I would say, like because it used to be a lot more of like the Mag 7s and like the things that they know and use, like Disney and Apple, and and those things used to be at the top. And now you're starting to see like things those things start to drop and more of this theme coming in. The other theme that I saw come in more recently over the last month is, um, aerospace and defense names are starting. So that's like 3% of the index, which is not huge, but you know, it has a little bit of a name in there. Yeah. And you were just saying how you're seeing more individual stock picking on the platform. There was a big ETF boom right around the April lows from the tariff announcements. So what can you decipher from that? Are retail investors becoming more tactical, are really chasing a lot of these momentum opportunities and volatile, uh, time period? I think they play the volatility really well. Um, I I think they're they're, uh, very savvy, um, our customers are anyway, generally speaking. Um, and that tells you like when there's a big dip, they're like just go long beta, right? Like that's kind of the way maybe a multi-asset class portfolio manager might think. Um, and then once you kind of get to the point where beta, there's more to play in the individual name space, that's where they, uh, tend to focus. And and you do see it. I mean, the one thing I would say is that there's also a little bit of a, um, our customers do also like income, at least a subset of our customers like income. And so playing some of those, um, ETFs that have a focus on income, that is something else that I've started to see more recently. And a few weeks ago, there was a lot of talk about investor euphoria, whether or not the market was getting too frothy, we saw a lot of short selling, a lot of the meme stock reaction. Has that settled down at this point, or is that just as active as it was a few weeks ago? I, we didn't see that so much. Um, I mean, I I'd say, meaning that like activity has been high and it continues to be high. I haven't seen much of a shift. Um, but I think there's a place where you could, I'm not sure it will turn because our customers are younger on average, if you think about it, like they're average age of 34. Um, that is definitely lower than some of the other platforms. And they can take longer term views and sort of play the volatility. So if there is a big dip, if things are, you know, then they, you know, they do buy when there is a dip, which I think is different than those that maybe a little older and need to start thinking about preserving capital. And we've been talking to a lot of experts that say retail traders have really been leading the market higher because they've been continuously buying the dip, and then sort of dragging along those institutions with them. Yeah. Yeah. And things turn out to not be as bad as they were expected. Yeah. No, at least at least not in this current moment. We'll have to wait and see. But Steph, thank you for those insights. A MAGA Voter's List Breaking Down 4 Major Things Trump Needs To Do Better As President Is Going Viral, And It's Not What You'd Expect

A Reddit post by a MAGA voter has recently gone viral for sharing a list of things Donald Trump needs to do better as President — but it's not exactly what you expect. At the start of the post, the MAGA voter explained why they voted for Trump in the first place, expressing their belief that a woman should not be president. "He was the best we had to choose from and I don't believe a woman should sit in that position." Related: They then went on to list what needs to change in the Trump presidency. "Tired of hearing about Elon Musk and see some results." They wrote about Trump focusing on people other than the Biden family. "Move on from Joe Biden..." Related: They emphasized Trump continuously bringing up past events. "Stop living in the forward." Related: And advised Trump to stop the division, and "work for of America." Many people in the original poster's comments who also voted for Trump expressed support for the post: "We voted for Trump because there was not any other option. His big beautiful bill does zero for middle class Americans..." "I would love to see the Bidens prosecuted but it's time to move on and quit dwelling..." this user wrote. "I also do not believe a woman should hold that well said." Related: Elsewhere, this person wrote, "It's really, really telling they'd rather have a felon than a woman running the country." "Lol most of these [people] don't realize they're spouting liberal talking points," another person wrote. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
