From RM15,000 to RM25,000: MyKiosk 2.0 gets solar panels, hydraulic windows

New MyKiosk 2.0 units come with higher price tag, enhanced design
SHAH ALAM - The cost of MyKiosk 2.0 units has increased compared to MyKiosk 1.0, reflecting significant upgrades made in response to feedback from traders and local authorities (PBTs).
Launched four months ago, a MyKiosk 2.0 unit is now priced at RM25,000, up from RM15,000 for the MyKiosk 1.0 programme introduced in 2023. MyKiosk is a KPKT initiative that helps small traders get licences and provides them with a better, more comfortable place to do business.
The Local Government Department (JKT) under the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) clarified that, following the positive reception of MyKiosk 1.0, 18 upgrades were made, including modular installation (fully detachable units), solar panels with batteries and sloped roofing.
KPKT also stated that funding for the project was allocated to PBTs based on the cost outlined in the Letter of Acceptance (SST), which had been approved during the PBT-level Price Committee Meeting (JKSH).
'The increase in cost to RM25,000 reflects design specification upgrades that make the kiosks more user-friendly.
'These now feature larger solar energy systems, upgraded electrical systems with LED lighting for better illumination, hydraulic windows, and adjustable shelving for product arrangement," the department said.
These enhancements respond to complaints and suggestions received during the MyKiosk 1.0 phase.
Despite the added features, rental rates remain affordable, not exceeding RM300 per month.
KPKT clarified that a total of 7,243 MyKiosk units were supplied nationwide through 349 contractors for MyKiosk 1.0 and 446 contractors for MyKiosk 2.0.
The project is designed to benefit 133 PBTs and create opportunities for 795 local contractors involved in kiosk supply.
'The occupancy rate of the kiosks depends largely on the availability of vendors willing to start businesses and the selection of strategic locations.
'However, we do not object to PBTs relocating underperforming kiosks to more strategic areas to support small traders and help them generate income," KPKT said.

MACC seizes assets worth RM143 million linked to highway sukuk fund misuse
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized assets linked to the misuse of sukuk funds of the construction of a highway in Klang Valley believed to be owned by a highway concessionaire with a Tan Sri title totalling RM143 million during an operation conducted last week. 'Preliminary investigations revealed there was misconduct between 2016 and 2020 involving approved sukuk funds of about RM1.35 billion, involving false claims of about RM360 million and RM416 million and RM50 million in other bank facility loans. 'The RM1.67 billion highway project also failed to be completed according to schedule and investigations are focused on bribes worth RM12 million paid to certain parties as inducement in helping the cash flow out and back to the suspect,' he said in a statement tonight, adding that the proceeds were also believed to have been used in money laundering activities. He explained that to embezzle the funds, the parties involved were believed to have used professionals such as auditors, financial experts, engineers and shell companies. 'Until now, the MACC has yet to take the Tan Sri's statement as he is in a private hospital ward and today the investigating officer will get confirmation from the doctor on the status of the Tan Sri's health before recording his statement. 'Meanwhile, the number of witness statements stands at 45, and those witnesses who have given their statements have been asked to provide further statements,' he said, adding that the investigating team is also tracking down luxury vehicles and properties belonging to the Tan Sri abroad, including in London and Switzerland. The investigation is focused on the true amount of luxury liquor kept by the Tan Sri and the possibility that funds have been transferred to other accounts, he said. He added that an asset declaration notice has been handed to the Tan Sri and other related parties.

UUE to venture into solar PV via unit Enerxite
PETALING JAYA: UUE Holdings Bhd will venture into the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry through a 60% owned subsidiary called Enerxite Sdn Bhd. The joint venture (JV) partner Daryl Lai Yit Sheng, 36, will hold the remaining equity stake in Enerxite. UUE said in a statement that the mechanical engineer would lead and spearhead UUE's venture into the renewable energy (RE) sector. It would subscribe for the equity stake in Enerxite by investing RM599,990, a company in which it already has an initial paid-up capital of RM10. Lai would subscribe his portion in Enerxite for RM400,000 in cash, it said. 'UUE has identified the RE sector as a potential business segment which the group believes can be developed given the favourable potential of sustainable renewal energy sources. 'UUE intends to begin its involvement in this business industry with the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of solar PV systems for a start and progressively immerse itself into other segments,' it said. 'UUE, as the primary capital contributor and corporate owner, will provide strategic direction and corporate governance oversight. 'Lai will contribute technical expertise, industry knowledge and practical experience in the RE sector,' the company pointed out.
