Liverpool could raise litter fines in fresh clampdown
Liverpool City Council is considering raising fixed-penalty fines for people littering from £80 to £200 as part of a fresh clampdown. The council is in talks with private contractors tasked with increasing action against littering across the city, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.Bosses hope wardens will be out across Liverpool from July, seven years since the council severed ties with controversial litter enforcement company Kingdom after a large number of complaints.Councillors are due to meet in May to consider the fine increase.
Liverpool City Council said 3,000 bins bags and 1,200 fridge freezers as well as 539 shopping trollies were dumped between May 2023 and 2024. It currently spends around £12.5m on cleaning litter and fly-tipping. Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins said the proposed litter fine increase would strike a "good balance between deterrent and punishment".Officials said three private contractors have been interviewed for a five-year contract to take on the city's litter issues. The council's cabinet is expected to sign off on the selected contractor during its meeting in June. The council said it was "looking for enforcement interventions that are delivered in a way that is fair and proportionate" while the "quality" of officers "is critical to the reputation of the city".

Reaping the rewards of his popularity, the Blackpool native has made sure that any money he's made from the show hasn't gone to waste. He's proved to be a shrewd businessman - especially when it comes to property. The Sun can reveal how the TV star has recently opened up his own investment firm Corgi Real Estate. He has also invested in a house in Fleetwood and an apartment in nearby Thornton-Cleveleys, each worth £80,000. Pete has also capitalises on any earnings he makes from his TV career by setting up Corgi Media Ltd. Nevertheless, the star's daytime job isn't just appearing on Gogglebox - which he's only contracted to do 15 hours a week - but as a roofer and builder. He's got a business alongside a pal called TJ Joinery & Construction (NW) Ltd. The firm is going along very nicely and in its first set of accounts filed a £88,475 profit. Pete can't quit his regular job as he gets just £1,500 for each episode of Gogglebox, which is split with Sophie, so it's only right when he once said 'I have got to pay my mortgage somehow.' They quickly became popular with fans of the show for their quick wit and hilarious interactions. Aside from his humour, Pete won fans with his emotional side that he is never afraid to show. The duo aren't the only Sandiford siblings - they have another brother and sister called Harry and Lucy who do not appear on the show. Despite his popularity on Gogglebox, Pete still finds fame peculiar. "I am just a builder from Blackpool, so it is a bit strange when celebrities know us, " he once said. "I was on a roof yesterday."

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more Marks and Spencer paused its online orders for months amid the cyber attack. While you could still head to stores and shop IRL, stock was limited and you couldn't always find the pieces you had seen online. Every week since the end of April when the cyber attack happened following the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, we have been refreshing the site to see if it is back in full swing, but to no avail. To be totally honest, we didn't know what the future of online shopping at M&S was going to look like. Thankfully, M&S has today announced the freeze on online orders is finally over, and we couldn't be happier – don't think our bank account can say the same. Lidl confirms date school uniform bundle will return with prices starting at £1.50
Parents can beat the back to school rush and financial pressure of a new term with Lidl's school range. Parents will know all too well the stress of getting in a new school uniform. Not just a strain on finances, but it can be overwhelming and stressful for some. That's exactly why many retailers have been confirming the return of its school uniform bundles, with Lidl being the latest to announce when theirs will be back in stores - and prices begin from just £1.50. Landing in the German discounter's stores nationwide on Thursday, July 3, it is the perfect opportunity for parents who want to beat the inevitable back-to-school rush after the summer holidays. However, it is worth mentioning, that since the range will land in the supermarket's middle aisle, combined with the fact that other parents will be looking to save money, it will only be available while stock lasts and it could sell out fast. To get their little ones kitted out for a new term, the range contains an assortment of essentials such as polo shirts, dresses, sweatshirts, hoodies, trainers and much, much more. There's also the opportunity to nab a full uniform 'bundle' for just £5, with the deal offering two polo shirts and a sweatshirt, alongside either a pair of trousers, a skirt or shorts. For general everyday classes, Lidl's school range will provide parents with a two-pack of polo shirts for £1.75, working out at less than a pound each, as well as a two-pack of jersey trousers that cost under a fiver. Worried about items lasting throughout P.E classes? Then don't fret, as Lidl will be offering high quality, durable sporty items such as a pair of kids' trainers for £6.99, a two-pack of cycling shorts for £2.99, and joggers for £3.49. To keep parents' minds at east, the bundle comes with a 12-month satisfaction guarantee to ensure that they are getting good value for their money. Lidl's announcement comes just after its budget rival Aldi confirmed when its own back-to-school uniform bundle would be returning to stores. The German discounter's popular range is set to go available "earlier than ever" from Sunday, June 29, taking the stress and financial pressure of parents who are trying to their kids ready for a new term. Similar to Lidl, the supermarket's bundle works out at just £5 for a full uniform that includes a sweatshirt, a polo shirt, trousers, skirts and cargo shorts.
