Greater Bengaluru blueprint ready, to be tabled in next cabinet meeting: Deputy CM

"We are in the process of finalising it (development of Greater Bengaluru)," Shivakumar told reporters, signalling a major push in the govt's urban governance overhaul.
The move follows chief minister Siddaramaiah's May announcement that Greater Bengaluru Governance Act will be implemented and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be replaced with Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) — a new administrative body.
On May 25, Shivakumar had also declared that BBMP's re-division process would be completed by Sept 15, paving the way for the formation of GBA.

To prepare, Shivakumar and GBA officials had gone on a study tour to Delhi in June. The team met with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to discuss urban planning strategies, waste management systems, and construction by-laws.
"Delhi is a very historic, big and planned city," Shivakumar said.

"The population is double that of Bengaluru. There are three challenges in Delhi: Town planning, waste management, and the construction by-laws. Though I visited Hyderabad and Chennai as well, it was very important to know about new policies in Delhi."
He stressed the importance of long-term vision and planning for Bengaluru's future. "If a city is not planned, it cannot work... I had brief meetings, and they gave a presentation on new laws and their plans for the next 25-30 years," he said.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar said he will travel to New Delhi Tuesday to secure central clearance for forest land acquisition for the Yettinahole drinking water project. The govt is yet to acquire 428 acres of forest land in Hassan and Tumkuru districts. Shivakumar will meet Jal Shakti minister CR Patil and Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav and discuss the issue with them. Shivakuamar insisted his visit has nothing to do with politics, but he did not rule out meeting Congress brass.
"Party office is like a temple for us. I make it a point to visit," he said.

No more fixed highway targets, states can prioritise projects
New Delhi: In a significant shift in strategy, the ministry of road transport and highways has done away with fixed targets for states and will now collaborate with them on floating targets for the construction of national highways, expressways and greenfield corridors passing through states. "The idea is to get projects off the ground to avoid delays that often result in huge time and cost overrun," the official added. Live Events This is expected to give enough flexibility to states to pick up projects which can be quickly started since the majority of the basic requirements are in place. "It is a win-win for both Centre as well as states. There will be a bouquet of roads offered to states for development and states will be allowed to proceed with projects where they see some progress," an industry expert said, adding this will help fast-track completion of pending projects also. While construction of national highways is primarily the responsibility of the ministry of road transport and highway, which works through its autonomous body the National Highways Authority of India, states assist the central government with land acquisition, rehabilitation of project-affected people and obtaining various clearances. The government has set the target of constructing 10,000 km of highways in 2025-26, lower than the 10,421 km target set for 2024-25. Even the monetisation target for the current financial year has been scaled down to ₹30,000 crore compared to the target of ₹39,000 crore set for the preceding year. Besides, the ministry of road transport and highways allocates funds for state governments and union territories (UTs) for development and maintenance of state roads under the Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The ministry has allocated ₹9,030 crore under the scheme in 2024-25.

60L boost for shopping complex at Thycaud market
Thiruvananthapuram: The long-awaited Thycaud market shopping complex is one step closer to completion with mayor Arya Rajendran approving Rs 60 lakh from the corporation's own funds. The fund allocation comes as the shopping complex, being developed by the city corporation at a cost of nearly Rs 1 crore, nears the final stages of construction. The project, located in the heart of Thycaud, is envisioned as a major infrastructure boost for the local community. The building's ground floor is fully dedicated to market facilities. Electrical work in the building has commenced. The newly sanctioned Rs 60 lakh will be utilised for essential final-stage construction works. CM: No Aryan worth celebrating, so they attempt to steal Thiruvalluvar
Chennai: There have been attempts to paint Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar in saffron and steal him, since there was none worth celebrating in Aryan culture, chief minister M K Stalin said on Sunday.
