"We just want to go to dinner and I gotta make like seven phone calls" - Steph Curry opens up about the downsides of being a global superstar
Steph Curry is undoubtedly one of the most recognized sports superstars in the world today. With lucrative endorsement deals and millions of social media followers, he has achieved a level of fame that many can only dream of.
While immense fame comes with plenty of perks, Steph recently shared some of its downsides, including the challenges of simply going out for dinner without facing a logistical headache that often takes up a lot of time and effort to figure out.
Hard to move around
While Curry was already a star during his college days at Davidson, his popularity didn't really blow up until he won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and led the Golden State Warriors to the NBA title in 2015. From that point onwards, there was no turning back as he became the first unanimous MVP winner in league history and added three more rings to his collection in the following years.
With all these achievements and accolades, along with charm and charisma, it's no wonder that Chef has become a household name and fan favorite. However, with this level of fame comes a downside: the loss of privacy and freedom to move around freely.
From paparazzi following his every move to fans clamoring for a second of his time, he has had to adapt to living life in the public eye, which has made trivial things like a night out on the town a lot harder than it usually is for regular folks.
"I'm not out like in the streets 'cause it's kind of hard to move around at times unless you plan ahead," Steph said in an interview with Speedy Morman.
"And then you don't want to like overcomplicate something simple like, 'Hey, we just want to go to dinner in an hour,' and I gotta make like seven phone calls just to make sure you can get where you need to go. Like I hate, I do hate that part of it," he continued.Steph is grateful for the love
Don't get it twisted — Curry is highly appreciative of all the attention and love he gets from fans from Beijing, China to Manila, Philippines. Additionally, fame comes with unique benefits like escorts at an amusement park and whatnot.
"So there's like a — maybe like going to a theme park or something — you can call and be like, 'Hey, the Curry family wants to come in,'" Steph shared. "And usually they'll be accommodating. Might make you pay still, but they'll make sure you're taken care of. That type of vibe."
Curry, though, clarified that he no longer goes out as much as he used to. During the season or on promotional trips, he often stays in his hotel room.
"I don't really go anywhere either. Like on the road, I'm pretty much a recluse. Like I'm in my room, that type of thing," he stated.
And it's not because Steph is unfriendly or doesn't appreciate his fans. In fact, he loves interacting with them and makes it a priority to sign autographs and take photos whenever possible. At the same time, he wants to strike a balance between sharing his space and keeping his peace.
"I don't ever take that for granted 'cause I'd rather that than the opposite," Curry revealed. "But you have to find some balance there for sure. Like I got to be human at some point and find my peace."
Fame has its benefits and drawbacks, and for Steph, finding a sense of normalcy is essential in maintaining his mental and emotional well-being. In an industry where cameras are pointed at athletes the moment they step out of their vehicles, it can be challenging to find a moment of privacy. However, the Dubs sharpshooter has grasped the ideal balance between making time for fans and himself. This story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Golden State Warriors release Stephen Curry career dunks highlight package
When you think of Stephen Curry, you think of his amazing shooting ability, you think of him turning away as soon as a shot leaves his hands, or, you think of his night-night celebration. Curry has become synonymous with 3-point shooting, and in turn, he's helped lead the Golden State Warriors to four NBA championships. However, Curry is more than just a 3-point assassin. He's also a solid playmaker, an inverted screener, and can get to the rim at will. What you don't think about, though, is the different dunks he's had throughout his career. Curry jamming the rock home is always an afterthought, primarily because of how rarely it happens. On July 23, the Warriors' YouTube account decided to remind the world that Curry can throw the rock down when the time is right. It pieced together footage from every dunk he's made in his career and posted it as a 4-minute and 37-second highlight reel, allowing fans to relive some of the more explosive moments of his career. Lakers' LeBron James teases Year 23 with early-morning workout post
The post Lakers' LeBron James teases Year 23 with early-morning workout post appeared first on ClutchPoints. LeBron James has made headlines this offseason for his future with the Los Angeles Lakers and perceived beef with rapper Drake, but rest assured, the man is still focused on being the best basketball player he can be at 40 years of age. The all-time great's love for the game and commitment to his physical conditioning are on full display in a recent social media post. James revealed a picture of himself driving in the middle of the night and captioned it with a message that is sure to fire up Lakers fans. 'Let's get it!,' he said, via Mark Stein. 'Year 23 coming soon!' Regardless of what one thinks about this polarizing figure, his dedication to his craft is indisputable. James invests millions of dollars and countless hours into preserving his superstar form, and the results are reflected on the court. Despite logging more than 1,800 career games (including playoffs), the four-time NBA Finals MVP is still a top-10 player in the league. He is exhibiting unparalleled longevity, further solidifying himself as one of the most influential individuals to ever step foot on the hardwood. LeBron James continues to perform at a high level James scored 24.4 points per contest on 51.3 percent shooting from the field and 37.6 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line last season. He also averaged 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds on his way to a sixth-place finish in MVP voting. Most athletes entering middle-aged territory are just hoping for a graceful exit. This one earned an All-NBA Second-Team selection. Body maintenance remains a crucial component of James' unfathomable evasion of Father Time. However, a couple of retired athletes have made big accusations about how the all-time scoring leader goes about said maintenance. Former All-Star point guard Jeff Teague recently claimed that the all-time scoring leader was using steroids back in the day, but he dismissed the remarks as a joke hours later. The controversial Chael Sonnen, who competed in the UFC before becoming an analyst, declared in 2023 that James uses performance-enhancing drugs (PEDS), going as far as to say that he and the face of the NBA have the 'same drug guy.' Neither Sonnen nor anyone else has presented substantiated evidence that LeBron James has engaged in such practices. Fans are fiercely protective of his reputation just the same, though. What is inarguable is that he still eats, sleeps and breathes basketball. He is attacking the offseason with passion and intensity, taking it upon himself to get physically and mentally ready for the 2025-26 season. Will Lakers maximize the remainder of the LeBron era? In what could be his last year in LA, and in the NBA, James is intent on contending for a fifth championship. While there is still doubt regarding the Lakers' ceiling in a tough Western Conference, general manager Rob Pelinka did make notable additions in the form of center Deandre Ayton, sharpshooter Jake LaRavia and impactful defender Marcus Smart. If James and Los Angeles can build on their respectively active offseasons, then maybe fans will get to experience at least one more memorable campaign before this era of Purple and Gold hoops officially ends, and the Luka Doncic era reaches full force. Madden NFL 26 Top QBs revealed: Steelers' Aaron Rodgers doesn't make the cut
EA just revealed the top-10 player ratings at each position for Madden NFL 26 — and while the Steelers have representation in several key areas, quarterback isn't one of them. Here are the newly released Madden NFL 26 player ratings for the top-10 quarterbacks — with Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers notably excluded. Rodgers' predicted player rating of 77 is well off the top-10 quarterbacks in Madden 26 — failing to accurately account for his return to form at the end of the 2024 season. Underrated is an understatement, but the four-time MVP and 20-year veteran has more on his plate than Madden ratings — post-season aspirations on an incredibly stacked Steelers roster heading into the 2025 season.
