No beneficiaries from Andhra Pradesh under Sports Human Resource Development Scheme: Minister

Andhra Pradesh has had no beneficiaries under the Centre's Sports Human Resource Development scheme over the past three years, due to the absence of suitable proposals from the State, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Lok Sabha on Monday. Responding to a question raised by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivanath (Chinni) regarding the scheme's implementation, Dr. Mandaviya explained that the programme provides financial assistance aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of sportspersons, coaches, technical experts, students, and researchers. Between 2022–23 and 2024–25, only two fellowships were awarded nationwide under the scheme, with none going to individuals from Andhra Pradesh. During this period, the ministry also sanctioned funding for 47 conferences and 12 research projects across India. The Minister emphasised that the scheme is demand-driven, with funds allocated based on proposals received from the States. He attributed Andhra Pradesh's lack of beneficiaries to the absence of eligible proposals from the State.
