UP: Chinese national held for trying to enter India without travel documents
Zhang Yong, who was coming to India from Nepal, was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during routine checking in Sonauli area on Sunday evening, Station Officer of Sonauli police station Ajeet Pratap Singh said.
He had a Chinese passport, but no Indian visa papers and valid documents.
Singh said legal action is being taken against the Chinese citizen and he is being questioned.
Police are also investigating whether he was involved in any criminal activity.

UP steps up security in 7 dists along Nepal border for I-day
Lucknow: In the run-up to Independence Day , security agencies have intensified the vigilance along the India–Nepal border, placing all seven bordering districts —Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj — under heightened watch. A high alert came in effect on Monday, with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) tightening patrols across all entry points from Nepal in the state. Police in border stations were ordered to remain on full alert, with thorough checks of all pedestrians, vehicles, identity documents, and belongings. The night-vision and CCTV surveillance were made operational at check posts, while metal detectors were used for screening. As part of heightened security measures, 500 additional SSB personnel were deployed to fortify the porous Indo-Nepal border. The CCTV surveillance and ID checks were made mandatory at all entry-exit points. Temporary border outposts were also set up to monitor any suspicious movement. The 42nd Battalion of the SSB launched dual-patrolling operations, where troops conducted simultaneous front-facing patrols to prevent infiltration. Special checkpoints were erected even in remote forested areas. In Balrampur, police and SSB teams maintained 24/7 joint surveillance along the border. Village security committees were also activated to alert authorities of suspicious movements. SSB Commandant Ganga Singh said the intelligence networks have been activated to identify and monitor anti-national elements. Personnel were given clear instructions to take immediate action against any suspicious activity. Locals were urged to report unfamiliar or suspicious individuals to police or SSB without delay. Bahraich SP Ram Nayan Singh said police stations in Rupaidiha, Motipur, Murtiha, Sujauli, and Nawabganj, which are adjacent to Nepal border, were put on alert. Woman held in Delhi for smuggling 12.55 kg cannabis from West Bengal via train
New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Delhi for allegedly transporting more than 12 kilogram of cannabis concealed in trolley bag from West Bengal via train, police said on Monday. According to police, she was supplying the contraband as part of an interstate drug supply network. The accused, Archana Manna, from Kolkata, was arrested at Ashram Flyover while travelling in an autorickshaw with her daughter and two grandchildren, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Manna, moved to Delhi in 2014 and has been working as a domestic help. Her husband died two decades ago. She was allegedly lured into drug trafficking by acquaintances in Govind Puri, who offered her Rs 10,000 for each delivery. Police said she was trained by the network in using encrypted apps and deleting call logs to avoid detection. Videos found on her phone showed her discussing the quality of ganja during purchase, they added. They said that 12.55 kilogram of ganja, packed in 12 polythene packets and concealed in a trolley bag, was seized from her possession. The contraband was confirmed to be ganja by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team at the spot, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the operation followed specific intelligence received on June 16 about a woman transporting cannabis from Odisha and West Bengal to Delhi by train. Police were deployed at Kashmere Gate railway station to monitor the suspect. The accused managed to slip out of the station amid the rush but was later traced to an autorickshaw heading towards Govind Puri. She was intercepted at Ashram Flyover and the narcotics were seized after due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation into the supply chain, believed to operate across Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, is continuing.
